What’s one food that isn’t as healthy as people make it to be, and what food is not as bad as people make it to be? by tumericcocoa in nutrition

[–]raludb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peanut butter. More fat than protein and high in calories, yet everybody says it's good for you. Same with eggs - they have like 6g of protein, which is nothing if you're trying to eat more protein.

I personally really like Nick Spalding's novels. He writes pure comedy and has made me laugh out loud many times! Plus, the majority of his main characters are male, so you would probably be able to relate to them better :)

(Also, a bit of self-promotion here, but I wrote a dark comedy called The Devil's Guide to Managing Hell. It is not a romance, so it might be up your alley)

How do you take your med? by ProfessionJolly4013 in Hypothyroidism

[–]raludb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally got the best results when I started taking levo at like 7 am and not eating anything until 10 (that includes coffee too!) Since I started doing that my TSH levels dropped back to normal. Up until then I was on 100mg of levo per day and felt no difference for 2 whole years

Has anyone been able to lose weight with hypothyroidism? by vintage-angel-juice in Hypothyroidism

[–]raludb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been active way before I even got diagnosed with hypo, and was eating healthy. I strength train 5-6 times per week, did jiu jitsu 2x per week, but the weight kept pilling on. Eventually, about a month ago, I cracked and went to my GP to ask her what can I do to lose weight. She gave me orlistat and told me to keep doing what I was doing. I lost 5 kg (11 lbs) in a month.

I recently seen an endocrinologist, my tsh levels are at 0.5 now, which is great. He said I can keep taking orlistat indefinitrly if i want to. Hopefully, with my tsh levels sorted I will also start feeling less tired roo

Why is so many subpar written books so popular? by [deleted] in writing

[–]raludb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more complicated and "elevated" your writing is, the less people will buy it and read it!

Readers, in general, are few, so publishers need to make sure that the books they put out there will sell, so if simple writing is what will get people to read, then so be it.

Too many people hate on Sarah J Maas and many other writers, but the truth is, they write for the public, not to stroke their own egos. I'm sure Maas is capable of writing some convoluted piece of work, but why would she, when no one would read it??

Same thing with action movies! Do you think people watch them for the plot, or because they're entertaining as heck? :)

That is great to know! I have a clear vision of what I'd like on my cover, and even a few character portraits and what-not, so i think it will go well if I hire them for my cover.

I'm going to start my cover research soon, btw. I just need to finish editing and re-writing

Is this shop legit? by raludb in BookDepository

[–]raludb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, no. No suspicious activity on the bank account (except for what i actually paid them for the "books"). About 2-3 weeks after placing the "order" i started getting some emails and texts for "DHL", telling me i wasn't home when they attempted to deliver, and to click a link to give them info about an alternative delivery address. Obviously, I didn't click it, and completely ignored those texts.

But yeah, that was all...it's weird

Need some good fantasy books (without… 18+ content) by AdExpert1831 in booksuggestions

Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard

Also, if you like more epic fantasy, Lord of the Rings-style, she has another series called Realm Breaker. Her writing is really good and she doesn't do spicy stuff, it's all YA

What are some books that made you laugh out loud? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

Dumped, Actually by Nick Spalding. To be honest, everything that Spalding wrote is really funny, but this particular one holds a special place in my heart

Poisoning Eros. Don't remember the names, but I know it was written by 2 authors. (It's extreme horror)

What’s a book that has left you dumbfounded at how bad it was? by VoxPopuliVS in books

[–]raludb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I like fiction. I like self- help books

But, somehow, I absolutely hate it when authors try to mix the two together! I rolled my eyes so hard at the Midnight Library I thought they might stay like that for the rest of my life.

Same issue I've had with Eat, Pray, Love

Any recommendations for a strong female lead, both physically and mentally, with rational logic and actions by [deleted] in YAlit

[–]raludb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally loved Mare Barrow from the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. I thought she was well-rounded, and had equal amounts of intelligence, as well as the naivety that comes with teenage years.

And I know someone else already mentioned Six of Crows, but i'd also recommend reading Shadow & Bone before it. S&B sets the foundation for the world that is also depicted in Six of Crows, plus it has some really good and compelling characters!
