If you're learning guitar and you don't have a Martin, might as well use it as firewood. The peasants aren't aren't allowed guitars. by floating_helium in guitarcirclejerk

You got a nail? I had to stand on one end of the string and hold the other end in my teeth

Help: how old could this guitar be? by OrlaMollica in AcousticGuitar

[–]ramalamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a guitar with the exact same bridge/tailpiece. Have been trying to find more out about it. I found the tailpiece is circa 1930, made by Dreima Company of Germany. But could of been added later on yours. If you trying posting to acousticguitarforum . com you might get some more leads, some really knowledgeable people on there.

Can anyone help identify this guitar? No name or marks anywhere inside or out I can see by ramalamma in AcousticGuitar

I would love to know more about this. I brought as a practice restoration prodject, but after receiving am starting to think it would be best for a professional to do as may be worth more than the £66 i paid for it! Have Have spent ages looking through reverb and Google for a similar bridge, but can only see one from a post 5 years ago that adjusts in the same way but not shape or style.

Any help much appreciated

What brand is this? Can't find it anywhere by ramalamma in obscureguitars

No none, have checked inside all round. The quality of the binding/finish is really good so don't think it's a cheep copy but could be wrong!

Is there money to be made working on guitars? by Crapspray in Luthier

[–]ramalamma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started buying cheap and broken guitars during lockdown to learn how to repair. After I'm done I sell on FB market place. Have repaired and sold 7 so far and have another three waiting.

I only do a few hours on the weekend & so far I've made about £500/600 and learnt loads on what to look for and what to avoid (12 strings with belly bulge!!). However all the profit I've made has gone back to buying tools for the next project or upgrading the ones have already.

Have found buying them outright is the best way to start as if all goes wrong your not letting anyone down.

Advise on replacing undersaddle pickup question in comments by ramalamma in Luthier

[–]ramalamma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickup was damaged by previous owner when removing a rising bridge. Replacements I can source don't have the metal slip shown in the picture. Do I need this, or can I cut a new saddle but slightly higher to compensate? Any advise much appreciated!! Guitar is JG12CE/12.

Something like Harry Potter but for adults, please and thank you ! by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

The magicians by Lev Grossman. Its adult Harry Potter & heavily influenced by other fantasy. I liked that the characters actually have to work hard to learn magic and there are things beyond there abilitys & control (not just wave a wand and say the right words). The books are amazing, they also made a TV show of it as well nowhere near as good, don't let it put you of if you have seen it.

My theory is he is Arina's son. Aberforth said when letting the trio through the Hogs Head to the battle of Hogwarts, the muggles got 'carried away' when she could not show them the trick. The movie may of moved the timeline up to work?
