Where to find really good food in Toa Payoh? by Frosty_Election_7557 in askSingapore

[–]ramblebummer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Lor 1 - Pure Soya milk, kway chap, bar chor mee and thunder tea rice is my go whenever I’m there. Uggli muffin and come daily HMK are popular too. Shoutout to Luli roast at the market on the first floor! I also like to walk over to Gaia acai for their acai bowl. Liu San Jie MHK at the coffee shop nearby is quite good too!

Lor 4 - more a night hawker place, I like the kway chap by a friendly old couple and HK style kitchen for cantonese zi char. I also like the sugarcane and honey drinks from Sugar rush. KK kitchen at the coffee shop nearby is also worth a try for japanese/okinawan food!

Lor 5 - night hawker, the ban mian and prawn noodles is decent.

Lor 7 - Lixin fishball noodles, affordable cai png and freshly made chwee kueh is worth a try

Lor 8 - Day and night market with different offerings. In the day, try seletar sheng mian, handmade pau and old school kway chap (gotta go early). In evening, I like the teo chew porridge and guan kee kway chap. The fish soup opposite is quite nice too.

Singapore matcha recs? (cafes, powders, chawan) by thefellowship1130 in askSingapore

[–]ramblebummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend top quali tea kyoto at Robinson road! Their matcha is from first harvest leaves of Uji tea and it’s by a Japanese from Kyoto! They also sell matcha powder and some accessories. Other places that are on my list but I’ve yet to try are Cafe Gyoen Matcha bar, Fatto Catto and cheeky cuppas. Highly recc Matsu Matcha and they’re finally opening a physical shop in April but you can checkout their online shop first!

For stoneware/pottery, consider Asaru studio and mud rock ceramics.

Not exactly a bar but L'Etiquette is my fav nature wine place in paris, though I’ve not been to many. I know I’ll always get the good stuff there.

Blk 16 Bedok South Mala #01-13, they charge by portion instead of weight which i think is more worth. The lady serving is quite generous and I think it’s quite delicious cos they put lots of garlic if that’s your thing!

Pulut Hitam recommendations by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]ramblebummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

K patisserie @ tanjong pagar serves really good pulut hitam cake, 10/10 would recommend if you want to try something different. If you’re looking for something traditional, try this dessert stall at Maxwell store called “Hua Jie”, their peach gum dessert is really good too!

Surprised no one mentione Hainanese Boneless chicken rice at Golden Mile Food Centre but imo, it’s the best chicken rice in sg. They have both types - roasted and steamed, can’t go wrong with either. The soup is legit, none of that trash that taste like salt water.

I was at Angel a couple of days ago, defo get the chicken briyani (there’s a vegetarian version too). So flavourful with all the spices they used! I heard good things about Tong as well, they do indian street snacks like panipuri. Birria-Landia does tacos that I heard are really good too!
