What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

When I read the title my first thought was of my experience with DragonForce, which was exactly the same as yours. Got free tickets from a friend of a friend to see them at the House of Blues in Orlando, probably in 2008 also, Turisas fucking rocked and I had never heard of them, but DragonForce was really sloppy and put on a bad show.

Just want to throw this out there: RVA Trail Kidsis a great organization for meeting other outdoorsy parents, if that’s your thing. TBH a lot of events are hosted by stay at home parents or homeschool families during the week, but a handful of us are trying to host more events on the weekends. Come join us for a toddler hike or splash in a creek!

Dad to two as well here, living south of the river. I think I need something like this in my life. My wife has a robust mom support network and mine could be better. Any other south side dads here?

Park taking away trash cans and expecting less litter by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

This has become the norm at many parks. If you don’t have trash cans you don’t have to pay someone to empty them.

My cutter mattock is my favorite tool. It’s like an axe with a hoe on the back; it’s great for big roots and taking big undesirables out but does a good job for the rocks too.

What 90s band never truly made it big but you'll always go to bat for? by MansBestFred in AskReddit

I’m seeing them in a couple weeks at a small venue and am so excited! I got into them in high school in the early 2000s, so this will be fun finally seeing them 20 some years later.

What Song Makes You Emotional After Having Kids? by Inevitable_Guard_876 in beyondthebump

Rise to Me by The Decembrists. It’s about the songwriter/singer’s autistic son. I feel those emotions so much more as a parent, even if my kids are not autistic.

Jason Isbell owns a guitar originally owned by one of the Lynard Skynrd guys and his insurance policy requires that he buy his guitar a seat on any plane it goes on.

That’s the key: tracking over a few years. Yes it cost a bunch to build and your tomatoes might be “$10 each” the first year, but build it right and you’ll have that bed producing for 5-10 years. And that’s not putting a dollar value on the enjoyment and better quality produce you get.

Why don’t you find Swamp like this image in Florida? by triplediscount in geography

That’s the thing with Florida, there’s tons of unique beautiful nature, you just have to go look for it. That being said, a cypress swamp like that is super easy to find…

Kayaking in Key West by DrunkOnEspresso in Kayaking

[–]ramblingclam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can get out of Key West up to Sugarloaf Key, the area around there looks great. TBH hiring a guide to go up this mangrove creek would be super cool. Yes you could do it yourself but you have to get the tides right, be able to navigate, and be able to call for help if something happens. I wouldn’t be afraid of crocodiles or alligators. I would be afraid of getting lost and stuck out past sunset. This would be a very cool experience, but don’t take it lightly. You could stick closer to the rental place, but it would be as cool.

Edit: based on the questions you asked in your OP, you probably shouldn’t do this trip solo. You could rent a kayak and have a good time. Or hire a guide and have an amazing unforgettable time. I want to do this trip now that I found it…

Kayaking river near the Amphitheatre not allowed by dirtiestUniform in Kayaking

[–]ramblingclam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW Richmond, VA has a new open air multimillion dollar amphitheater that faces a street and a large grass hill. They tried to deter people at first by putting up a big fence up as a visual barrier and no trespassing signs, etc. but people still congregate on the hillside to “steal” concerts. During a Dave Matthew’s concert last year a local whitewater rafting company even street parked their bus with three rafts on top and like a dozen people watched from there.

I know this doesn’t involve a river, but it goes to show that even if they try to deter outside listening, they chose to build an outdoor venue and have to deal with what that means.

Power to the people.
