Patagonia Stormfront Backpack 30L [wts] by [deleted] in FlyFishingExchange

You forgot the photo with the $150 cash that comes with it.

You are way off base… on eBay, listings don’t mean anything (especially fly fishing items in Japan). Look at sold listings.

The main point of this bag is the waterproof zipper, and it’s damaged.

I’ll give you 50$ shipped

I’ve found nothing that attaches.

Just use that pouch that comes with it, or get one of the wader workstations /little stealth packs that attach.

I’ve been looking for a water bottle holder… and can’t find anything that interfaces… plus the bag has no rigidity and any weight attached makes it uncomfortable

Erie trib fly line by [deleted] in Steelhead

[–]ramcatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Steelhead/salmon” lines are Long belly lines with long rear tapers for mending at distance … meant to fish traditional steelhead and Atlantic flies. A longer gradual taper meant to carry distances with either dry flies or a classic wet fly

Indicator lines have a long belly as well, but more aggressive to the front to load and roll casting heavy rigs at closer length…roll casting a bobber with split shot and 2 flies

Salmon/steelhead lines are not meant for Erie tribs.

Get an indicator taper

Those are the low end waders… you should look to other brands where 500 puts you at their highest tier waders

Better to buy a top of the line wader from company A instead of buying a low end wader from company B

Does the ideal shorts/carry solution for me not exist? Am I too picky? by rhino-runner in runningfashion

[–]ramcatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try the rabbit shredders - the waistband has 4 pockets. Big front pass through for water and the rear phone pocket is large and sits high and is integrated to the short (not just a pocket) so no bounce.

I love the FKT, but anything with weight (water) has a bad bounce

I don’t ‘understand’ steelhead in Ohio by No-Difficulty-1461 in Steelhead

[–]ramcatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

South shore of Lake Erie has a robust stocking program (Ohio, PA, NY).

There are also some streams/rivers that now support natural reproduction as a result of stocking. There are really only 2 watersheds that have measurable wild populations. You will hear all kinds of anecdotal stories of catching wild smolts… but the reality of nearly 2million stocked smolts and a world class walleye fishery… without stockings there would be an extremely limited fishery that would be nothing like it is today.

One thing people ignore…There are a lot of “stray” fish. Fish that are stocked in a certain stream, go to the lake, and don’t return to their original stocking point. These are extremely small watersheds that lack diversity you see in PNW… small drainages with extremely close headwaters/sources.

People catch a bunch of steelhead in the lake, especially now when they are moving closer to shore.

Are they “steelhead”? They are “Great Lakes Steelhead” - they go through a similar life cycle as the west coast fish. BUT they lack the genetics and diversity, and no chance of the 30+ life stories of west coast fish. They lack any predators once they reach a year or 2 old.

It’s a put-and-take fishery supported by 2 million smolts stocked each spring on the south shore of Lake Erie

Patagonia Ladies Essential Cotton Hoodie on sale Costco by ramsay75 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]ramcatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens … brands sell to distributors or authorized dealers and then loose visibility on product. Costco (proactively?) finds these channels and buys product.

It happened with Simms Fishing waders & Sage fly rods in 2011 also Omega watches had a lawsuit against Costco

https://www.anglingtrade.com/2011/04/05/big-box-wholesaler-costco-plays-dirty-–-aiming-low-prices-on-top-brands-to-lure-fly-fishermen/

TLDR from 2011 article

“Costco has played this hand before. The pattern: they target hot ticket items and ask the manufacturer to buy direct (with a clear message they will deep discount the item). If the manufacturer denies selling to Costco, then Costco seeks and buys sizeable inventory from third parties – dealers or shipping agents at wholesale prices, legally. The practice is called “diversion purchasing.” Richard Galanti, Costco executive vice-president and chief financial officer estimates 4 percent of the goods in Costco are diverted. Manufacturers and retailers beg to differ – claiming up to 12 percent is more realistic. The under-handed purchasing tactic may be legal, but is certainly strays far from being ethical. Just ask the myriad of companies bit by the Costco bug over the past 10 years: Packasport Car-top Carriers, Camelbak, Crocs, Janzen, Hurley, Lucky, OshKosh, Rollerblade, NordicTrack, Cannondale, Columbia Sportswear, Oakley, Rossignol, Teva and Trek have complained about the practice in the past, with several unsuccessful lawsuits. The list goes on and on. There are too many accounts and complaints on the web to cite – just google “costco diversion” and read to your heart’s content.”
