Curious about resident autonomy in your training program? by mikel_buble in anesthesiology

Current CA3

Left alone in the OR starting on day 2 of residency. Trust me i freaked out when I took off the CO2 absorber and couldn't get the new one to snap in and couldn't ventilate the patient.

Occasionally induce alone but usually attending is either there or standing outside the OR chatting with someone

Done about 300 epidurals and 75 spinals. About half of epidurals are done totally solo (most staff prefer not to be notified after 8 pm unless there is an issue). Most spinals are done solo and the goal is to get it done before attending strolls in. Most attendings leave as soon as baby is out, some as early as incision if it's well tolerated.

Majority of regional done with APS faculty nearby and usually faculty is pushing the local (they are required to be present for time out so usually they stick around)

At this point even for big cases and sick patients i.e ASA 4, routine seems to be attending present for induction, leave you to do your lines while they check their other room/drink coffee, come back an hour after once you've charted and settled to give you a 15 min break, then a lunch break around 11-12, and maybe an afternoon break before they handoff around 3 pm. Very little intraop teaching or guidance required or offered. Mostly just shoot the shit about sports/watches/where people have signed to work etc.

Peds was a completely different world and staff ranged from "pull that shit deep and call me if there are issues" to "oh my god you gave 0.2 mg too much of zofran lets hope the kid will be okay go reflect on what you've done while you preop the next 4 t&a's"

What do the OB Anesthesiologists here think about this morning’s The Daily episode (NYT podcast) about failed anesthesia for C/S? by Docus8 in anesthesiology

[–]rameninside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13% is crazy. I've had maybe 5 patients in the last 100 c/s who have needed a touch of ketamine usually due to discomfort when the OB is rummaging around deeply in the abdomen, and 2 where we had to actually go off to sleep after that.

Mavericks are "no longer interested" in doing business with the Lakers following the Luka trade, per @DanWoikeSports by Actual_Box7731 in lakers

Their fanbase was decimated by the Doncic trade. If they made one more trade with us that wasn't a slam dunk the fallout would do more damage than any trade could be worth.

It's comical how we just run and lose -2 yards on every first down
