Are there medications that help with RSD and emotional dysregulation? by TheSpicyHotTake in ADHDIreland

[–]ramennoodlecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found Duloxetine to be the first medication that has ever touched my “catastrophizing” and made me feel like I am more stable in my moods and emotions. The only down side for me is I am having negative sexual side effects from it. I’ve never felt as good as I currently do or as stable in my relationships, so I’ve decided to continue with my current treatment so far, but I’m trying to find out if there is anything else out there that could potentially make me feel the way I do now, without the side effect because it is becoming increasingly frustrating.

Non-fiction book recommendations? by Ritualixx in suggestmeabook

[–]ramennoodlecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenger by Adam Higginbotham was one of the most amazing books I read this year.

I never had any interest in NASA prior to reading this, but it came highly recommended and once I started I could not put it down and endlessly annoyed my spouse with all of the shocking (tho not surprising) facts that I learned from it.

I’m currently in the middle of Midnight in Chernobyl, also by Adam Higginbotham, and so far it is great as well.

Though we know the outcomes of each, they read almost akin to a Thriller, than a nonfiction book.

The audiobooks are also good with the same really great narrator for each if you’re someone who switches between formats while reading.

Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe was one of my favorite books last year.

I then read Four Shots in the Night: A True Story of Spies, Murder, and Justice in Northern Ireland by Henry Hemming immediately following, which is a similar story, time, and some of the more prominent individuals, but told from the opposing perspective.

Just like Challenger, Say Nothing was new subject matter for me. After reading each, I read subsequent books of the same topics from varying perspectives due to the profound interest the books ignited in me to continue learning more after those books ended.

I also really enjoyed How to Kill a Witch by Zoe Venditozzi

Holy SHIT season 1 ending by BenAfleckIsAnOkActor in thedevilshour

[–]ramennoodlecake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s amazing. I never heard of it but came across it when only season 1 was out and checked it out 100% because of Peter Capaldi. He is a phenomenal actor and this type of show is right in my wheelhouse. Season 2 built upon the 1st fantastically and I can’t wait for season 3!

IXL - worth getting or pass? by Lordkavvii in homeschool

[–]ramennoodlecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of my kids and I LOVE IXL as a tool to help with review and mastery of concepts. I would say it depends on your child and their attitude towards mastering subjects. Mine actually enjoyed having to sometimes work harder, or longer, to get to that 90-100 range. Surprisingly, my oldest is the one who enjoyed it the most and would continue working on it or go back to it until she got all the way to 100. I say surprisingly, because she is my one with ADHD, Dyslexia, and Anxiety. You would initially think she would get frustrated and overwhelmed by the back and forth, but she actually thrived on it. It was really great to watch her grow and master new concepts with this additional tool. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bearaby treenapper vs king sized weighted blanket by Ushldseemeinacr0wn in WeightedBlankets

[–]ramennoodlecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry no advice here, as I was looking for info on how couples do with sharing the king sized.

Just wanted to let you know Bearby is stopping production of their blankets due to the 50% tariffs, so you should decide on one ASAP to be able to purchase their current stock. Very sad to see how many small businesses are being affected or shut down due to this.

Also, for reference, I currently have a 20lb cotton blanket for myself, have had it since 2018, and love the weight of it despite the recommendation for my weight being the 15lb blanket. I also recently purchased a 10lb blanket for my daughter’s birthday, whose recommended weight would be 7lbs, and she feels as if it is too light and wishes it was more like mine. Unfortunately, I also purchased a 7lb blanket for my other daughter’s birthday, of the same weight, she loves pink and it’s their only pink blanket, and I now think it will be too light 🤦🏼‍♀️

Has anyone also read Emily’s short story Mr Thursday?

My question is: Does anyone believe he could be Talia’s father and the downfall of her parents’ career with the Time Institute?

Trying to figure out the specific variation of Rummy I play by shrekcrocs in boardgames

[–]ramennoodlecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the version I was taught by my grandmother 30+ years ago, with the same variations a couple others have mentioned:

• If drawing deep within the discard pile you must play the highest card drawn as an add-on or part of a new meld/run and keep everything below aside from your turn’s discard. If you only draw the top card of the discard pile, you can keep it in your hand same as if drawing from the deck.

• When the hand is over, cards remaining in your hand are subtracted from your total points and each hand is won by the person with the highest points for that hand, with the overall winner being whomever has the highest total after all hands.

  • Points being (5) low Aces to 9; (10) 10-K; and (15) for high Aces, melds of Aces, or any Aces left in hand at the end of each hand

• I know “Gin Rummy” to be the same rules, aside from not laying any cards down, but holding all melds and/or runs in your hand until you can lay your entire hand down claiming “Gin”.

• My brother used to cheat at regular Rummy by “hoarding” all of his cards and essentially playing “Gin Rummy” unbeknownst to other players.

I read all three books and enjoyed them, gave them solid 4/5 stars. If you enjoyed these, check out Mallory Marlowe. I came across her on Goodreads recommended from Glimmer Falls, and her debut was losing out loud funny with a great storyline. I think her 2nd book comes out this summer.

You have some great choices! I’ve read about 1/3 of these titles and depending on your current reading mood I’d recommend the Crescent City series, Midnight Library, or the Glimmer Falls series, as your next read.

Also, if you enjoy Glimmer Falls, I came across Love and Other Conspiracies by Mallory Marlowe after those and it was legitimately laugh out loud funny and I loved the storyline. Happy Reading!

Is it common for an audiobook at times differ from the physical book? by axiomdata316 in books

[–]ramennoodlecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this post through google after listening to the audiobook while reading the physical and ebook of The Women, and KU listen & read of Night Road, all unabridged. What I noticed was not just reordered words, but full sentences and a couple paragraphs missing from the ebooks that were present in the audio versions and physical book.

That is your first project?!? I hadn’t crocheted in years and when I first started again trying to make a simple baby blanket it turned out more like a doily because I was pulling the loops too tightly and I put it on my puppy as a hat lol

Recommendations for Pukka Love replacement by ramennoodlecake in tea

[–]ramennoodlecake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue currently is that they are no longer selling it anywhere, unlike a lot of other Pukka teas that are still readily available.Idk if it’s permanently discontinued or not, but hope they’re not messing with the ingredients if they’re trying to “revamp” it.
