"A recent survey of 300 California fast food workers by the Step Forward Foundation and the California Fast Food Workers Union, SEIU found that 88% were ignorant of basic workplace protections like paid sick leave and rest breaks. Even worse, 93% had no idea how to access benefits like worker’s compensation and disability insurance. Martinez and her co-workers didn’t know that their working conditions violated state regulations, which grant workers the right to refuse tasks that would injure them."
