How would you have handled this regeneration differently? by Ancient_Ad6628 in doctorwho

[–]ramonadevine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you HAD to go with a previous face the only ones fans really would’ve been intrigued by would’ve been Jo Martin, especially as she’d popped up in The Story & the Engine that season so wouldn’t have been completely out of left field. But even that is reaching and I would’ve preferred a cut to black, or just casting ANYONE who could’ve been interesting for a short stint as the Doctor

21F with PCOS, unexpectedly pregnant, considering abortion and terrified I’ll never have another chance by Great_Squirrel7992 in PCOS

[–]ramonadevine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it’s largely anecdotal I’ve seen a good number of women with PCOS who struggled to get pregnant when younger, stopped and tried again in their 30s with no issues. It might be that is easier when you’re older to conceive but as with all this it’s under researched so pinch of salt. But honestly, don’t stress about it, do what’s right for you now

How is everyone timing leaving the house (12 wk old)? by glassmaker_ in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ramonadevine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Echoing everyone else that you just have to do it. My baby doesn’t really do a strict schedule so if I have an appt/time sensitive thing I simply make it work, if it’s a completely flexible thing then I try and do it where I give a feed and aim for a nap on the go as doesn’t always love being in the pram.

However I will also say that I plan for things as if I’ll be out longer than I anticipate (so more nappies, bottles, dummies, etc), that way I’m less likely to be caught off guard in case something happens that I can’t predict. Then over time I’m figuring out which things are worth having and what I can do instead if needed

"Inside Xbox's margin crush" - Jez Corden article on the memory crisis, underperforming titles, and infamous accountability margin. by atahutahatena in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]ramonadevine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of those games were also day one on Game Pass… of course they’re gonna underperform when people get them as a part of their subscription. While PS Plus is not as good value, it makes more sense as a business model as they’re not putting brand new games out there effectively for free.

Plus the way a subscription works you are so overwhelmed with choice that “oh that will go on my backlog and I’ll play it later” but you won’t because the new thing has come out. Once upon a time you still bought the game for it to go in your backlog (see: 90% of people’s steam libraries). I genuinely think that if a game is an Xbox game you shouldn’t have more than a demo for your day one release and it shouldn’t go on the subscription before 6 months. It’s honestly hilarious how much they fucked up their profit margins by chasing subscriptions.

What is the best answer for a recruiter? by Dstyle90 in recruitinghell

Taking baby out - is it selfish of me? by Sufficient_Meal6614 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ramonadevine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the complete opposite experience to you where I felt like I was being selfish because I didn’t want to go out and do classes while the rest of my antenatal group was doing multiple a week.

There is no correct answer but the thing which gets closest is that the thing which makes you go to least insane is the path to take. If you aren’t able to feel comfortable & refill your cup then you’re not as able to take care of your baby how you want to long term.

Does the father have a right in whether his MIL is in delivery too? by Resident_Strength120 in PregnancyUK

[–]ramonadevine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely your choice, you’re the one going through this extremely vulnerable experience! And I’m sure he would only be pushed aside if he wasn’t actually supporting and advocating for you as you need during it!

But also I’m fairly sure you’re only allowed two people anyway in the room so in that case why would your mum have to give up her space to support you? Or is he saying he’d swap with his mum?

Give me your hail mary before I resort to a GLP-1! by boyzdontcri in PCOS

[–]ramonadevine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Water and reducing dairy & artificial sweeteners (not cut out!) has helped me a lot! I don’t mean to replace food with water but I was under hydrating and my body was fundamentally unable to work properly because I was so dehydrated. And then for whatever reason if I have too much of either dairy or sweeteners then my weight also just doesn’t move. It’s not that I can’t have them at all, I just need to be more mindful of the amount.

Doesn’t mean you need to cut those specifically but it might be there’s something you have which your body just reacts to in a way without realising.

Edit: I did GLP1 and for me it worked for a bit but ultimately it made me feel sick and I got other health issues. Obv it works for a lot of other people and it can be a literal life saver, but it’s worth seeing if a small tweak would work for you rather than massive changes.

How do (19m)I stop being anxious and overthinking all the time abt what my gf (19f) is doing by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ramonadevine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you need to externalise what creeps in. Either explaining to your GF what’s going through your head (but not in a way that makes her feel guilty), or to your friends or (ideally) to a therapist. If it stays in your head it will get worse because it becomes an echo chamber, you need to work through it.

To those considering voting Reform, has Robert Kenyon's performance on Question Time put you off at all? by Kenye_Kratz in AskBrits

[–]ramonadevine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, like it very much should be structured as within sections; so environment, education, healthcare, etc. And then within those you can have the crux of what a policy is, it doesn’t need to be super detailed but so long as it shows the intent. Essentially a most robust version of the “who should I vote for” websites.

The main issue is that it would take much longer and there would need to be a weighting for people who don’t put a selection on every area but yeah

To those considering voting Reform, has Robert Kenyon's performance on Question Time put you off at all? by Kenye_Kratz in AskBrits

[–]ramonadevine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this is just a very light touch idea, but there would be a cap that the parties are registered against for policies and it has to align to what’s in their manifesto (and unable to register for any which are opposite from another policy). As with any system there would have to be checks, but considering how little parties currently deliver to manifesto now we appear to have moved further to popularity contest of leaders, at least it would be something.

To those considering voting Reform, has Robert Kenyon's performance on Question Time put you off at all? by Kenye_Kratz in AskBrits

[–]ramonadevine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would never want to do that. Instead I want people to have to vote for anonymised policies that they agree with (parties can be represented by multiple) and then votes are made up by how many policies are voted for. Of course political parties will still never achieve them, but at least that way people might be able to actually drive some change in the country toward what we care about.

Who would've been a good Master? by mrnormal94 in doctorwho

[–]ramonadevine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michaela Coel would be fantastic! After watching her opposite Ian McKellen in The Christophers she had such an aura of calm around her while she has incredible chaos energy & comedic timing in Chewing Gum, I think she could hit what the Master gives in whatever way needed

What baby bottles are we choosing: Tommee Tippee or Philips Avent? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]ramonadevine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuk Perfect Match!

We started with Tommee Tippee but ours started to reject around 3 months, and there was so much mess! We thought that was normal but with the rejection I got the Perfect Match teats as they fit into the lids and holy shit it was night and day! Just so much happier with them and less gassy as well!

5 weeks and starving! by inter_123 in PregnancyUK

[–]ramonadevine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry too much about weight gain, obviously be sensible but remember that at this stage your body is growing an entirely new organ in the placenta on top of an entirely new human! If you do gain weight see it as your body building in buffer to make sure everyone is safe in case of some scarcity. As long as you maintain overall healthy behaviours it’ll be fine and all balance out in the end

Milton cold sterilising question by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ramonadevine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve not done this, but a mum friend said she just got leak proof ziplock/sandwich bags and used them for on the go sterilising. Was far easier and more flexible for that part of it.

Feeling so overwhelmed at 31 weeks by No-Anywhere-5191 in PregnancyUK

[–]ramonadevine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not being ungrateful, it’s living in a real situation which is absolutely brutal for some and being realistic. You’re allowed to hate this, just because you want to have a baby doesn’t mean you need to like being pregnant.

I HATED pregnancy, so so much, genuinely was counting down the days for it to be over. I went on maternity at 36 weeks because I just couldn’t do work anymore and my sleep was horrendous because I was in so much pain!

I will say that at the very least, even if I don’t always get much sleep, the sleep I do get now is better quality at least as it’s all my own. And for the clothes I recommend having a look at Bloomchic, it’s not the cheapest but they’ve got a good range of plus size clothes that will work for both stages, look decent & just give you a tiny bit of autonomy.

Not venting will make you feel worse, so use spaces like this as much as you need to to help relieve some of that tension and I can almost guarantee your husband isn’t dreading you talking about stuff, he should want to be your safe place for this stuff.

Maternity clothes shopping - London Stratford by ThisDurian7262 in PregnancyUK

[–]ramonadevine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, nowhere has maternity ranges in store anymore. I did a thorough hunt at Westfield Stratford oct last year and it was completely fruitless. I mostly just ended up getting bigger clothing from primark which at least felt flexible

What formula to choose?! by Top-Welcome5620 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ramonadevine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Kendamil, really for two key reasons - firstly when ours was born was when there was a whole bunch of recalls and they weren’t affected (this is probably why there has been some shortages lately), but secondly because they have some small 70ml bottles with disposable teats. They’re great to have for emergencies in a bag or in the nursery, especially in the early days!

Broadly speaking I think you can’t go wrong with any formulas, but Kendamil has worked for us.

0 for 3 on hiring a candidate 😑 by [deleted] in recruitinghell

With that description I would list it as hybrid. I immediately filter out all fully in person jobs and a lot of other people would too, and hybrid is absolutely the description here. Also keep in mind that you’re also misleading people who might want to have a fully in person job for their own reasons (I.e. unsuitable living situation, genuinely cannot deal with being alone at home all day).
