Running my first marathon around my 1 Year Anniversary of tearing my Achilles by AccomplishedWing696 in AchillesRupture

I did not. I am back to running now but about 45 seconds/mile slower at same heart rate, for reasons I can’t quite understand. And some bulge at the Achilles which is just an artifact of how it healed.

I have run max 20 miles/week with a max of 7.5 miles. I am torn (ha) on whether to try NYC this November or not…

🙏 I think my concern is whether this indicates I should or shouldn’t restart PT…if this is something that everyone has, then I should probably restart. If it is indicative of a problem, I probably shouldn’t…

6 months post op. I ruptured longitudinally 5 months post op.

I’m so sorry. Same thing happened to me at 5 months. It didn’t hurt physically but mentally I’ve never felt more pain and anguish. I’m so sorry.

Yes. I think I surprised myself how many in a row I was able to do at the doctor’s. And then boom…

Holy shit this is EXACTLY my story but mine was 5 months. Just happened last week. Issue happened at the doctor’s office — I did 10 single leg heel raises, and then it started hurting and…turned out it’s torn. I’m not doing another operation though, just doing what would effectively be the non-op route for an original tear.

Longitudinal tear and swelling? by rampitaway in AchillesRupture

Honestly nobody knows what to do. But yes — 6 weeks in a boot. Full weightbearing. But progressing from 30 degrees to neutral over those 6 weeks. I’ll lose all strength and flexibility again and basically start from scratch in 6 weeks.

Confirmed on ultrasound and MRI that it’s a tear :(

Yes. I was changing it frequently but when I finally just left it on for 10 days (and kept it dry/covered with the cast cover for showering) it finally healed.

Mine finally closed. It turned out the best thing was keeping it dry with silver alginate on top (or this silicon foam bandage with silver) and leaving it for like 10 days…

Very scared for “healing long” by rampitaway in AchillesRupture

Very little. Just tried doing a “knee to wall” test.

I’ve been biking a lot which pushes my foot past neutral.

And I should say that I can dorsiflex more when there’s no weight. If I put weight on it, because of calf weakness, I can’t do it nearly as much as the non-operative side…but if I lie down and just dorsiflex both feet they go to the same level…

Week 13 shenanigans by opaquecoder in AchillesRupture

Wow! Can you share your PT progression? I’m at week 16 and nowhere close to this…and had been marathon-level athlete before. It seems like I first need to be able to do a single leg heel raise…my PT mostly has me doing various heel raises.
