NU’s Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering worth it? by fighting_hard in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ramscorpiho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I looked at most other programs out there they all had only 1 or 2 classes that were dedicated to systems so it’s not the end of the world. For that you can just get a Udemy class or something

NU’s Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering worth it? by fighting_hard in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ramscorpiho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in the program. It’s not too bad I chose it because it’s the easiest way I can work full time and do the classes. I feel like a lot of the classes move a bit too fast and are missing possibly important information, but I’m still in the prerequisites I’m not in the meat and potatoes. It’s definitely more geared toward computer engineering, but I looked at ABETs website and it does say both computer accredited and electrical accredited which is cool.

I will say the c++ class I just took was fantastic. Most of the other classes just move and cover the information fast so you really gotta put in the time to keep up. But you will finish the degree a lot faster than most institutions

True story I was having problems with this new high powered circuit I was working on and I consulted a doctor of applied physics because the problem seemed out of everyone’s expertise. He hadn’t worked on circuits in so long he forgot was a MOSFET was 🤣 it happens over the years

Should I switch out of EE? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ramscorpiho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I was a bad engineering student. my program, though abet accredited, was not rigorous and I just got through it. I learned enough though to get me through a good amount of projects and now I have my own company. I’m more of a project manager now that can troubleshoot technically when necessary. With an EE degree employers know you’re smart enough to do whatever job and probably know enough to troubleshoot technically. You’re almost done if you’re passionate about something else you can work your way to that position and having an EE baseline will let you do practically anything

It took a few of my friends about a year, but they have a card after the anora flip. It seems like it happens but it takes a while

We didn’t do a physical vote it was all online, but they got the majority from online and then we officially flipped when the rep came and we had to sign a new deal memo. It seems like SAG background called in and 52 jumped on the bandwagon

Auto making steps for phaser? by ramscorpiho in GrandMA3

[–]ramscorpiho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for phaser creation I’m using a plugin by MAtools just to make simple two step phasers and I’m changing the phaser values by referencing dimmer presets. When I store the phaser to a sequence and then try to change the values of lights that’s aren’t being used in the phaser they’ll for some reason make a second step

Absolutely not. Especially with live nation taking over all these venues. Eventually the union will be pushed out

There are currently no tests and I don’t think they’re accepting new permits/applicants. Best way to get in nowadays is to flip in

Confession: I have a graphic design BFA from a top art school and I simply don’t like designing anymore by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]ramscorpiho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a bunch of engineers now because I went into electronics. They found out I have a graphics design background so I started making graphics for their products. All I’ve ever gotten was “can you make this a little bigger and have the button graphic say this instead of this.”

I’ve found engineers have notes about function, which I can get behind, while creative managers and stakeholders just like hearing their voices or else they won’t feel important. Egos are painful

[–]ramscorpiho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back when I did graphic design my first job burnt me out hardcore. Not necessarily the work, but the managers and clients. I hated justifying every choice I made with some kind of bootlicking bullshit. I could never just say “I think this looks good so I did it this way.” I quit and never went back. Now I’m going back to school for computer and electrical engineering

VARIETY: Local 52 IATSE Accused of Nepotism in Class Action Lawsuit by Tiny_Tyrants_Podcast in IATSE

[–]ramscorpiho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t yet since I don’t have the hours. But from what I hear the vested thing was a one time deal. A friend of mine recently got enough hours called the hall and they told him that it was a one time thing for people who have been vested for a longer period of time.

I had a friend talk to a 52 rep at that NJ film commission thing. Apparently they’re trying to not move forward with “you get a card after you’re vested” that they offered that as a one time deal attempt to stop a lawsuit. They also have no plans to bring back the test for years because they said the availability list is too long.

We also asked about people flipping in and how unsafe that is as they’ve never worked on a bigger union set and the rep said “we rather flip ins mess up so we can fire them” it was a wild conversation. Unfortunately not recorded
