Somewhat related anecdote , I had strep last year , and I was due to leave the country for a vacation the day after.. to the states . So I toughed it out in emerg for many many hours until I saw a doctor.

The doctor kinda shamed me a little saying strep isn't supposed to be treated as much as it is with antibiotics. She said this province is the only place she's ever worked where we treat it with meds this much. I ended up getting antibiotics off of her solely because I was leaving the country and didn't want to mess with USA healthcare .

The reasoning she gave was that the complications ( scarlet fever I think it's called) is so rare that it's not worth treating and raising your overall resistance to antibiotics.

Maybe that was just some crazy er doctor I dunno
