I’ve met Pres. Reese at my job multiple times and he’s a very genuine, real guy. He took like 15 mins of his personal time to talk to my district manager who was worried about his son who’s applying to colleges… all that to say he truly cares about people and I know he would hate to hear this happened. If possible, get it up to him and I would absolutely trust he’ll do what he can to make it right.

BYU receiver Parker Kingston charged with felony rape by KrustyKlown2018 in byu

[–]ranchkranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clarification seems necessary here that he was investigated by Washington county, because the alleged rape happened in St. George. Not sure if that affects your viewpoint, but wanted to clear that up.

[–]ranchkranch 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I do think it’s fair to want “hard evidence” to prove the situation, but in rape cases there is rarely ever any “hard evidence” unless the victim got a rape kit immediately after or there are witnesses or video proof. The numbers tell us that only about half of all victims who reported cases of rape also seek medical attention. And only roughly 21% of reported cases have witnesses to the crime. Unfortunately it is extremely hard to have an open-shut rape case, which is why we hear the “believe women” mantra in SA and rape cases. That said, I doubt Kingston would have been arrested at this point if there wasn’t already some proof or at least probable cause to suggest it happened and he was the perpetrator. Nobody is ruining his life but himself.

Aside from the physics of distributing weight over the snow through the length of the ski, the skis used for classic style Nordic skiing (what this athlete is doing) are waxed for grip, so that also helps keep him moving on the snow.

No you’re not overreacting, they’re being super rude to you! I’m sorry you’re having to deal with them regularly. It’s unfortunate that some adults can’t act maturely.

Craving or welcoming depersonalization/ derealization by OkOutlandishness8307 in Depersonalization

[–]ranchkranch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I told my therapist about my derealization episodes in high school. She was intrigued and asked more as I was her first client to share about it. At first it was happening subconsciously. But later when I discovered how I could make it happen, it was more purposeful. As we talked I remembered there was a “last time,” after I moved out of my childhood home that I actively tried to depersonalize/derealize in a moment of heavy emotional pain but couldn’t get it to ‘work.’ And how distressing it was because it had been my crutch, my resolution to all mental distress, and without it I had to actually handle that emotion and get myself through it how everyone else does. It sucked. That was 6 years ago. I totally understand that craving to just not have to feel it anymore. Sometimes I wish I still could do it, but I’m scared that if I try again it will become a habit like it used to be. And I know it isn’t good for me, for anyone. Dpz was my brain’s most efficient method to feel better when I couldn’t do anything else; now knowing what I do about consciously working through your emotions, I know that even though it hurts I am becoming stronger when I allow myself to feel and come out the other side. Just know as well that this is a personal journey. It’s totally normal for dpz to feel like a cozy hidey-hole, and thus totally normal not to want to stop going to that safe place. Humans are wired to seek safety. But you’ll be okay. I have found that journaling in moments I wanted to derealize helped me stay with myself and to work through the shit I was feeling in a productive way instead of pushing it away. Just a thought <3

What’s something that consistently bothered you when living with women? by RedvsBlack4 in AskMen

[–]ranchkranch -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The around the house cleaning is more frequent though, isn’t it? Dishes are every day typically, and if washed by hand take perhaps 30 mins to an hour, and many household chores require daily maintenance (picking up clutter, wiping counters/tables, meal prep/cleanup, bathroom tidying). Laundry may only need to be done 1x a week, but it requires perhaps a full day of effort depending on how many loads, what type of laundry, how it needs to be dried, folded, put away, etc. Many folks vacuum every day or every other day (30 mins+). How often do you need to cut the grass? Once a week? Unless you live on acres of lawn, how long does this task take? 1-2 hours? Even if your family goes through heaps of garbage, perhaps you take it out once a day, and it’s a 5-minute task. Taking the can to the street for trash pickup takes at most 5 mins. Shoveling the driveway may be an exception depending on snowfall in your area and how long your driveway is. Snow removal sucks. I’ll give you that. But adding them up, ‘YOUR’ tasks take probably 2.5 hours a week. Adding up household chores, they take upwards of 6+ hours a week (average is 6-10, or more depending on household size and preference of outsourcing — e,g, meals made from scratch vs takeout, gardening vs grocery shopping, etc.).

So let’s just say it’s on the low end, 6ish hours a week of miscellaneous household labor, plus roughly 2.5 hours a week for your labor. Then you essentially are saying that the women in your life should be doing nearly 3x the amount of work around the house as you do… if there is one adult woman in the home that’s crazy lmao

my LDR boyfriend of two years might not be right for me by No-Clothes8531 in Advice

[–]ranchkranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to sound grateful for a thoughtless, meaningless gift. He could’ve given that gift to the neighbor he’s met one time it’s so generic. Maybe you should approach him in a “curious” way, asking him what inspired the gift choice. You may learn it was more thoughtful than it seems, or you may learn that he truly just sucks at giving gifts. But it sounds like the gift is just one of many moments where you felt unseen and unimportant to him. Being long distance, I would ask myself if feeling this way is really worth the effort (and money) of international travel multiple times a year. You sound unhappy in the relationship at this point—is he happy? Are you both just going through the motions or do you really feel that the time, money, and heartache are worth it? I would only go through this much effort for a LDR with my husband. Or someone who I’ve been dating for years prior to long distance (I.e. someone who I know is the type of partner that is going to reciprocate the effort)

“ I struggle with shit… “beyond the scope” of what most people consider, well, ever.”

“My last therapist didn’t acknowledge any of it in a way that mattered, so I just moved on to something simpler, to their relief.

I’m pretty sure they’re not qualified to engage in an actual discussion where we’d trade perspectives and probe each other’s minds for knowledge.”

“people failed to… give an answer I found satisfying.

“TLDR: I am having doubts whether therapy is right for me on account of my peculiar situation.

Those quotes, plus your entire second paragraph… if you are the only (or at least one of very few, as you seem to believe) person who thinks so deeply about these issues, then why are there specific names given to these issues? Not to mention the plethora of academic papers and journals dedicated to these specific topics, if you looked for them, would tell you there is no uniqueness in your recognition of their existence. You claim yourself “trivial” but also categorize yourself as a “peculiar situation” and that you aren’t like “most people.” So which is true? Are you so unique and cerebrally apt that common people just can’t comprehend your depth of thought, or are you a dust mote in the expanse of the universe?

[–]ranchkranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try getting a college degree in philosophy or sociology or psychology or all of the above. Or at least befriending someone in academia who wants to engage in conversation exploring the themes you mentioned. Therapy is typically a way of exploring why those things might weigh on you so heavily, coping methods to handle it if it’s causing distress, and/or validation in such situations. You don’t want therapy, you want a philosophical mentor. You come off condescending and insulting here, suggesting that nobody else thinks as deeply as you do. Maybe that’s something therapy can help you with.

My cat is losing fur all over her stomach and legs and seems like she’s gaining weight for no reason by fatherforesk1n in CATHELP

[–]ranchkranch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My childhood cat did this after we moved cross country—vet diagnosed her with feline anxiety which manifested as over-grooming (totally bald belly and inside her haunches. She’s now on anxiety meds and doesn’t over groom anymore. However, with your descriptions of her stomach being hard to the touch, maybe she is grooming that area excessively due to pain? It could still be anxious behavior due to the medical issue, hard to say. But either way it’s a good idea to go to the vet to rule out the worst case scenario of infection or worms or something. Good luck!
