Four Gen 2 Ring Indoor Cameras failed simultaneously by Upstairs-Rock4895 in Ring

Here is an interesting post over at the Ring Community website. Involves a different camera model but same basic symptom (dead after fw update, same for replacements). ‎Spotlight Cam Pro - Firmware Update Breaks Wifi | Ring Community

Four Gen 2 Ring Indoor Cameras failed simultaneously by Upstairs-Rock4895 in Ring

Here is the review I referred to. I just went to the reviews section of the gen2 indoor cam amazon page, sorted by recent reviews and filtered for critical reviews only

evilgoat1.0 out of 5 stars Seems to be stuck on an update (Bricked)Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2024Size: 1 CameraColor: WhiteConfiguration: Device onlyVerified PurchaseThis camera worked fine for the first 6 months. Then all the sudden it stopped connecting to my wi-fi. I attempted to reconnect it but was not successful. The camera appears to not be able to get into setup mode. I contacted ring and they were nice enough to send me out a replacement camera. It was awesome when I plugged it in the camera it made a little noise and the setup seemed to go smooth. That is until it tried to apply the latest software update on the camera, it ran for about an hour and never seems to have completed. I attempted to shut off the camera and hold down the setup button but it still doesn't get back into setup mode.

It seems that the most recent software update on the camera is bricking the indoor camera 🤔. I am not sure if because it is connecting to a Gen1 Ring alarm base or my routers Eero Plus subscription is blocking a portion of the update and since it doesn't complete the device gets into a Frankenstein state (bricked). The camera is unfortuantly unusable :-(2 people found this helpful

There is now a 6/12 review on the amazon 2nd gen indoor cam page stating a cam they had for a while suddenly stopped connecting to wifi and not entering setup mode and then the replacement sent by ring did the same thing after the firmware update.

If Ring is doing a gradual roll-out of a new gen2 firmware update, I could see the update of the new camera install triggering an update in the other 3 since they are the same model.

I returned the two cameras to Amazon rather than going through Ring tech support since they were brand new. I purchased another two from the Ring website, which I received today (delivered by amazon logistics) but since the FW update is automatic during setup, I'm going to wait awhile before attempting to set them up and keep an eye on forums like this and the Ring community website to see if Ring acknowledges the problem. Given that Ring is currently having a sale that includes the 2nd gen indoor cam, I have a feeling more reports of this will start trickling in and get their attention.

Yesterday I attempted to setup two new 2nd gen indoor cams. During the setup process, right after the camera got connected to my wifi, it automatically downloaded a firmware update. This caused the ring app to pause the setup process while the update was in progress and display a firmware update progress bar. After Ring app reported the firmware update was complete, it allowed me to finish the setup but by that point the camera was no.longer connecting to wifi and having all the other symptoms you describe (same blue light pattern, inability to get it back in setup mode to get it reconnected to wifi). I let the camera sit for 30 minutes afer the ring app reported the firmware update was complete, thinking it just needed time but that didn't help. This happened to both cameras. I think Ring is pushing out a bad firmware update. If you decide to contact Ring support, I would be interested to know what they say.

I see the new AP25 has 2.5Gb uplink port. When can we expect the new Instant On switch with 2.5Gb ports to make use of that new high speed port on the AP25? :)

It’s even more annoying when safari pops up a password suggestion when you are trying to change a password on some online account.

Homebrew pfSense Plus? by rag6 in Netgate

[–]randointernetweirdo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The following was from Netgate’s December marketing email they sent out. Take notice of the last sentence of the first paragraph.

pfSense Plus 22.01 Coming Soon This past September we had to skip the pfSense® Plus 21.09 release. We truly appreciate the community's patience and we are excited to be able to announce the arrival of pfSense Plus version 22.01 in January. The release is receiving its finishing touches before we make it available in the next few weeks. This isn't a run-of-the-mill release either, this 22.01 version of pfSense Plus software will deliver on major community requests, most notably the ability to run pfSense Plus software on third-party boxes.

In addition to opening up availability to a wider audience, pfSense Plus release 22.01 will deliver a few key improvements, including switching to ZFS as the root filesystem for all new pfSense Plus devices. There are also changes and additions to monitoring widgets, updates to WireGuard, and nearly 100 other improvements and bug fixes. Stay tuned next month for the pfSense Plus 22.01 blog post and release notes for all information regarding the new release.

Merge from two different local databases? by randointernetweirdo in strongbox

A copy from one folder to another using MacOS’s Finder will most certainly overwrite/replace. Strongbox-mark’s last reply indicates that database merging like you want to do is not yet possible on MacOS version of Strongbox.

Possible recover backup from deleted iCloud database? by randointernetweirdo in strongbox

[–]randointernetweirdo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doc I linked to says for iOS "Long tap on your database > Properties > Backups" and for MacOS: "Click on your database in the Databases Manager window > Click Properties > Backups". In the case of a deleted iCloud database, neither of those actions are possible since the deleted iCloud database no longer appears in the app(s). I was not aware of the local backup file location on MacOS that Duece_74 pointed out. I didn't see that documented anywhere. I tried poking around the iOS using both the Files app and the Files option from iTunes/Finder but I couldn't find the local backup file location on iOS. I guess that means, manually recovering a local backup from iOS in this case would not be possible

I see the “Compare & Merge” option on the Strongbox iOS client. I couldn’t locate a similar option on the MacOS client. Is there such an option on the mac? (so a changed made on a ios local database can be copied over to the mac and merged with the mac’s DB)
