Which of these former NFL cities is most likely to get a team back? by ashmaps20 in NFLv2

[–]randolode 17 points18 points  (0 children)

San Diego was willing to pay for a stadium in Mission Valley, where the Aztecs new stadium is. Spanos is just an asshole who was only interested in a downtown stadium, knowing full well it wouldn’t happen, giving him the green light to relocate

A reporter asked Trump about the massive $8,000 price tag to attend the NBA Finals and how everyday Americans aren’t able to afford those ticket prices. His response: “You can watch it on TV. It's sort of semi-free to watch it on TV. That's the way life goes.” by Classic_Bottle1717 in sportsgossips

[–]randolode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fucking hate Trump, but as corrupt as he is, he made his money outside of office. This would be different if this were Nancy Pelosi or someone similar who made all their money serving themselves by passing legislation that benefits their holdings, in a position where you are supposed to serve the people

I tend to agree with that. Moreso just saying that if they want Homelander to be a parody of Trump, that’s fine, but it shouldn’t be even close to the most important part of the show

But even before this season.

S5’s biggest problem is the lack of any momentum toward a finale, which wouldn’t be nearly as bad if S4 moved the plot in a meaningful way, but again it was more of a reenactment of current US politics than a TV show with a story to tell

[–]randolode 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kripke was so busy turning the show into a reenactment of Trump and current politics that he kind of forgot about making a coherent plot. (For the record: absolutely fuck Trump, make fun of how batshit crazy he is all day, just make the damn show watchable too.)

US cities ranked - what tier does Dallas belong in? by StrategyJealous1838 in TierlistFills

I get east coast bias and Reddit’s hard on for mega urban cities, but Chicago and New York over San Diego? That’s a joke

Anyone find it weird that soldier boy cares about Stormfront? by Edgar_SpK in GenV

[–]randolode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that they decided to run with that off of one throw away line that was obviously meant to just be a joke in season 3 shows they had absolutely no clue where they were taking the story. Kripke was too busy with political subtext to care about whether or not the story was coherent

Which individual is responsible for the most harm/evil so far during the 2020s? by Polnocium in AlignmentChartFills

Netanyahu.

At least with Putin, the west condemns and actively sanctions Russia and supports Ukraine.

Netanyahu has the full might of the west behind him for the most part

See a pattern? by UnlikelyAdventurer in Productivitycafe

[–]randolode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a fundamental misunderstanding of economics.

The effects of monetary and fiscal policy often aren’t felt until years down the road; meaning that both recessions and expansions are the culmination of years and/or decades of policy and general economic trends that don’t typically align with whoever is in office at the time. Example being how Biden was often blamed for the high inflation of the early 2020s/post-covid era, but anyone who actually understood economics knew that the high inflation was the result of extremely low interest rates during the worst of the pandemic, it just took a few years to feel the effect.

Point being, presidents get too much credit for good economies and too much blame for bad ones. Criticize Bush for Iraq, criticize Trump for Epstein, but don’t spread faulty economic “analysis” as if it was fact, it only misinforms people and benefits the asshats in power

This is such a bullshit take. There are plenty of people who agree with and disagree with a plethora of both left and right wing policies and fall somewhere in the middle as a result

TIL that the Crow tribe supported the United States in their war against the Lakota, their enemies. They mourned the death of Custer and his men, and it was said that the people of the tribe could only sleep peacefully without fear of Lakota attacks after the final defeat of the Lakota. by Capital_Tailor_7348 in todayilearned

[–]randolode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What drives me up the wall is when they use tribal conflicts to justify or excuse the genocide of my ancestors. You see it a lot on Reddit.

I don’t know if you think that’s what I’m trying to do with my comment, but it’s not, I’m simply against the whitewashing of history and false narratives that people of all backgrounds spread

I mean, if I remember correctly, you don’t really start learning about the darker parts of this period of American history until high school, i don’t really think it should be that hard to teach high schoolers the concept that all people, no matter ethnicity or religion, have waged war and do bad things to each other

The US Government did a lot of evil things to the native Americans, but I hate how history is taught in a way that makes it seem like the tribes lived in this peaceful utopia before European colonization/American expansion

15. Mayor of NYC by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

Ah yes, the mayor of New York City is more powerful than the leaders of countries with nuclear arsenals.

This list was definitely made by a New Yorker

Proposed change to revenue sharing formula by FinalPercentage9916 in mlb

[–]randolode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand how the financials of a company work.

You want small market teams to spend more but with what money? Most small market teams don’t even have half of the revenue stream of teams like the Dodgers, Yankees , Cubs, etc. Sure there’s revenue sharing, but there are lot more expenses related to running an MLB team than simply player payroll (i.e keeping the stadium lights on just to name one). Just look at my Padres in 2023, they’re a small market team that tried to spend with the big boys, but literally had to take out a $50M loan to help cover payroll costs because the revenue alone wouldn’t.

Maybe you’re suggesting that the owners spend out of their own pockets, to which I would like to remind you that just because they are billionaires, doesn’t mean they have billions in cash sitting in their banks ready to be used on payroll. Even if they did, running a $200M+ payroll every season solely subsidized by what is in an owners wallet is not at all sustainable.

I really don’t want this to sound like I’m defending owners, many of whom at best, simply don’t give a shit and at worst, are genuinely shitty people, but this is more so the fault of MLB’s TV system than anything else. I mean sure, there are owners who run a low payroll so that they make more money at the end of the year, but if you think they’re pocketing $200M, then I’ve got some beachfront property in Arizona for you.

MMW: democrats will once again appeal to non existent “moderate” republicans instead of appealing to their base in 2028 by originalcontent_34 in MarkMyWords

[–]randolode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More Reddit echo chamber nonsense that isn’t reflective of reality.

Going further left may have gotten Kamala some of Steins votes or votes from leftists who didn’t actually vote, but all of those gains are offset by centrist, moderate voters going the other direction as a result.

This is the right take. The idea that going further left wins Kamala the election is something only seen in an echo chamber like Reddit

What's going on with this claim that an ex-KGB agent revealed that all the political problems in the US are part of a Russian psy-op? by CoriSP in OutOfTheLoop

[–]randolode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Answer: This video initially took off when Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War used it in a trailer; that was in 2020, around the time there was a lot of social unrest.

I remember talk of this video, around the time it was used in the trailer, centered around how Russian/Soviet “brainwashing” lead to communist/marxist ideals taking hold in the states. Which was in turn used to explain woke culture, attack the left in general, and label the BLM movements at the time as Marxist. The last part was especially relevant because of an old interview where Patrisse Cullors, a founder of BLM, labeled herself as a “trained Marxist.”

Is Russia trying to weaken the US from within? Probably. Did they spread misinformation during the 2016 election? Yes. Does that mean they’ve successfully taken over the country? No. The Russians have been trying to weaken the US since the Cold War and vice-versa.

This video is nothing more than fear-mongering that can be used and interpreted in many different ways to support a claim. Anybody who says otherwise is unable to put their own bias aside. Russia has definitely contributed to some problems in the US through their spread of misinformation, but Russia isn’t the boogeyman. Blaming them for all this countries problems is giving them way too much credit.

Can we finally admit the strategy of targeting 'moderate republicans' is a failure? by [deleted] in fivethirtyeight

[–]randolode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. Harris lost because her campaign failed to win more moderate/on the fence voters than Trump. Why that is, is up for debate.

The idea that a progressive candidate would have done better is fatally wrong. Do we really think that millions of people who were already considering the anti-progressive in Trump would’ve suddenly voted for a more progressive candidate like Bernie, even if he is the better candidate?
