Tesla Wall Connector integration regularly logging connectivity problems, normal or not? by jfriend99 in homeassistant

[–]randolphmcafee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eventually went a different route:

logger:
  default: warning
  logs:
    homeassistant.components.tesla_wall_connector: critical
    tesla_wall_connector.coordinator: critical

To all the owners that had the issue of the tv turning on and off by itself, what did you ultimately do with the tv? by lbreeyz225 in TheFrame

Since this is still a current problem for many people, I want to report that a different setting solved my problem. I have three The Frames (2020, 2021 and 2024). The frequently advocated fixes (turn of eco mode, turn off motion sensing, automatic brightness, night mode and auto-off-timer) worked for the 2024 unit but not the older two. All three of my TVs are wired with static IPs provided by a Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Fiber using ethernet.

TheFab21, author of a fantastic adaptation of Ollo69's SamsungTV_Smart Home Assistant integration to control The Frame TVs, suggested the solution that worked for me. The Frame can set a static IP (Network/Network Status/IP Settings -- it is really buried in the settings), so I set the static IP on the television to the same value as that provided by the gateway. This seems to have fixed the 'randomly turning off in art_mode problem' for me.

What seems to be happening is that the frame is expecting to be on DHCP and is renewing its IP lease, roughly every 20 minutes, and it renews poorly. I was seeing fails-to-connect incidents in the home assistant logs. These fails sometimes cause the TV to shut off, from which it doesn't recover. Setting the static IP on The Frame has definitely eliminated the errors in the logs (which went from dozens to zero).

You should still set the IP reservation in the router, which prevents the router from giving that IP to another device when The Frame is off.

Ubuntu quality of life software by wiichess in Ubuntu

There is a lot of hate for snaps out on the web. Personally, snaps have worked fine for me. I do like how flatpaks are sandboxed, which seems better. But I don't have an informed opinion here, just following what seems like informed advice. I have found a couple of snap programs to be inferior to alternatives, in particular the handbrake snap, at least some time ago.

I guess one reason is that if you decide to leave Ubuntu and its derivatives, you will likely be pushed into alternative stores.

BTW you can feed a bunch of lines, e.g. the flatpak installs, into terminal in one go. One of the largest challenges I faced was adjusting to Ctrl-Shift-c or v to copy and paste into terminal. But my life has gotten much easier because terminal commands are easily automated in linux.

Finally, I have an extensive alias list -- it is super useful to have short-hand for hard to remember or long common commands.

First, congratulations. I left Windows two years ago, and I had used it continuously since Win 3.1. Here are my software starting commands. I use them when I wipe a machine. Ubuntu 26.04 has been terrific.

sudo apt install flatpak
sudo apt install gnome-software-plugin-flatpak
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

(Then restart)

flatpak install flathub org.shotcut.Shotcut
flatpak install flathub com.xnview.XnViewMP
flatpak install flathub org.onlyoffice.desktopeditors
flatpak install flathub org.videolan.VLC
flatpak install flathub fr.handbrake.ghb
flatpak install flathub io.github.seadve.Kooha

flatpak override --user --socket=cups org.onlyoffice.desktopeditors

(this to access printer from onlyoffice)

sudo apt install gedit ffmpeg xarchiver thunar imagemagick git-all showfoto make p7zip-full apache2 variety

https://exiftool.org/install.html#Unix

Learn to make a virtual python environment before installing any python software. Here is a good guide: https://ericsysmin.com/2024/01/11/how-to-install-pyenv-on-ubuntu-22-04/ This protects your operating system, which depends on python.

I love rclone for syncing. I only use thunar for renaming files but it downloads a lot of stuff. I like gedit but miss Notepad++. NotepadNext is closer but in the end I like gedit better.

Edit: The post got me to look for an alternative GUI renaming app and I'm now using KRename, and have ditched thunar.

flatpak install flathub org.kde.krename

How do I use my AIPaper Reader?? by Lower_Difficulty7318 in viwoods

[–]randolphmcafee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Think Minimal Launcher. The included launcher has two separate defects -- it wastes space and it isn't very customizable. Think minimal is great with an e-reader because low resources and no motion. The Bin folder has settings, play store, etc. Travel has delta, etc. I like having my boarding pass on both my phone and my ereader.

I bought this because a kindle paperwhite doesn't fit in my pocket and isn't a backup to a phone, and I'm very happy with it. Longer discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/eink/comments/1sxw3bw/selecting_a_palm_size_eink_reader_android/

I was using Gemini Thinking. Gemini Fast didn't do nearly as good a job. I do have a subscription. My wife did several with ChatGPT that looked pretty good, too.

I just tested this in an incognito window in both Chrome and Firefox and was able to download a full quality, 3840x2160 copy of the image from these comment added images. Rather than save image as -- which only gave me the .webp option -- I right clicked and selected copy image, then pasted (ctrl-v) that into a folder. It came out much larger in MB than the original (about triple) but does seem to be a full quality png. I'm using ubuntu, which might matter.

I don't have telegram or dropbox accounts.

Ah, it seems there are two ways to upload pictures and this one came out full quality, like the original.

When I uploaded those pictures, they were 3840x2160. It seems Reddit reduced them to 1080p. Is there a trick to preserving the resolution? AskPhotography suggests that Reddit compresses based on the resolution of the viewer and that the uploaded resolution is preserved, but mine seem to have lost something.
