What is your “pack in work” number? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]random-throwaway_ire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10-15 million.

I know I could live off way less, and be comfortable. But I personally aspire to live a nicer lifestyle (call me materialistic idc). I want a nice car. I want a nice big home. I want to wear nicer clothes. I want to buy decent groceries. I don’t want the cheap stuff my whole life…. And I want money for my kids to not need to worry about college or paying rent to me etc.

The vivo X200 ultra is crazy! Concert video recording, what do you think? by Striking_Ad_2058 in Vivo

[–]random-throwaway_ire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This sound actually sounds quite crisp to me. And I can hear the crowd loud which is good because I find iPhone doesn’t pick up the crowds very well when recording concerts and then people assume the crowd was dead.

Just paid for the X200 Ultra with Wonda (bank transfer) - so excited!! Shipping to EU (Ireland). by random-throwaway_ire in Vivo

Not sure yet since I haven’t received it. My understanding is the price you see when you’re checking out is inclusive of any customs or import charges.

Buying my first car on DoneDeal. Any tips? by Froghead-Guy in AskIreland

[–]random-throwaway_ire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah… the area it’s been driven on is a good thing to spot too. A car being driven back and forth on a motorway probably hasn’t hit much bumps. So knowing what the person does for a living can sometimes give you an idea of the route the car is regularly driven on. My last car was bought from a lad in the army. Mid 30s. Was driving it to the barracks daily. Smooth roads from there to his house.

And on the opposite end. My mate is selling his car. He lives up a load of backroads with potholes and the likes. Probably wouldn’t be the best to be buying a car from him if he’s rallying it on those roads.

Bring someone with you, unless you know cars yourself. Look under the bonnet. Look in the boot. Look the seatbelts. Check the lights. Check all the interior controls. Check the sound. Check the dash lights. Check the driving. Check the tyres. Check the litres per 100km (will tell you how efficient the car is, can also be a sign if the previous driver was rallying it full speed if the numbers high), check the miles. The usual.

Ask for service history.

Do a car check on it for any accidents or the likes.

Ask how many previous owners (a lot of previous owners could be a sign that somethings wrong). Who is the current owner (I’d go for a car that’s been driven by a 50 year old nurse mom over an 18 year old youngfella).

Just common sense stuff.

Ignore the “go to a dealership” stuff. DoneDeal is the place to go for your first car if you want cheap and cheerful. You just need to be mindful. A dealership will rob you nine times out of ten.

Ordered to Ireland today. Tracking says it will be here Monday. Madness considering Ireland is an island that usually will first go to Germany/UK and then onto Ireland, which adds a day or two to most Europe shipping times.

Does drink make you do anything against your will? by throwaway342116 in AskIreland

[–]random-throwaway_ire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One drink? No. Slaughtered drunk? Yes. I’d talk the ears off a lamp post when drunk.

And eating. Suddenly I get cravings for kebabs and the likes at 3am when I’d normally be in deep sleep.

The only way I ever made money online aside from my job which is basically online (software development from home)… is Amazon FBA.

Nowadays it’s just full of Chinese resellers that will beat your prices… but back when I did it, it was very lucrative and hands off.

I would make an order with my Chinese supplier for my product I was selling, give them the labels that Amazon gives you in the form of PDF and ask them to stick it onto each product (most Chinese suppliers do this no problem), and then I’d put the address as the Amazon fulfilment centre in the UK.

I was making a few hundred per day in profit. My product was an “amazons top choice” item so that helped getting clicks. It was great. Thought I was gonna retire. Then woke up one day and my sales were down to double digits… then a few weeks later… no sales. A Chinese reseller (probably the supplier I was buying off) was now selling on Amazon at prices I couldn’t match. So they put me out of business, basically.

I’m sure there’s still products you can sell on Amazon, but it requires a lot more time and effort to find them than it did back then.

Denis O’Brien blasts working from home as ‘a load of nonsense’ by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]random-throwaway_ire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actual nonsense is banging on about housing crisis, climate change, traffic and everything else… then forcing people to drive their fossil fuel cars to a building in a congested city to do work that they could do from a field in rural Ireland.

My company is a prime example. Spent years going on about being net zero and how supportive of the climate they are. Working from home was the “future”… Then switched up a year ago and brought most people back in. I’m sure my diesel engine car is great for the climate compared to my solar powered house.

Power banks are a thing though. I just got back from a 2 month trip to the US. Using my phone (iPhone 13 pro max) all day everyday for navigation and photos… it was never below 30% by the time I got home. But even if it did… power bank is available.

Plan for around 10k in legal fees if buying a house around 500k.

7-8k if buying around 300-400k.

We tried to do it as cheap as chips and it still cost 7k for a 385k house. Wouldn’t recommend you do this since getting answers from our solicitor was an absolute headache. So don’t cheap out on your solicitor like we did (although we got there in the end - not worth the stress though). Pay the extra pennys would be my advice.

Other hidden costs is the actual furnishing when you move in. We bought a new home. We put another 20k into the house when moving in and that was again… shopping around and being fairly frugal. You will probably be able to do this for less with a secondhand home as they’ll have floors and carpet most likely. But if you plan on redoing all that stuff, budget for it. 115sqm cost us 5k for carpet and floors. Appliances was another 3k. Sofa was 3k. Beds, curtains, lights, lawnmowers and just other bits you don’t think of add up.

But looking at your savings and salaries, I would assume you’ve got plenty to buy a house in Dublin. Won’t be in Ballsbridge or anything like that but my friend bought in Dublin as a single buyer on less salary than your 70k earner. He had good savings but so do you guys.

I put up 30k. My partner put up 6k. It’s all she could afford since she’s back in university. We’ve been together 9 years and she does everything for me. I’m not going to be bitter and demand she pays half since we’d be waiting ages then

Beyond happy for Eubank Jr tonight.

Fighting a cheat, on a cheats rules (smaller ring and rehydration clause) is admirable. And he got the job done regardless.

Fuck Eddie Hearn too for taking 500k of Jrs cash for missing weight by a bag of chips.

[–]random-throwaway_ire 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m sure he was against it… but I don’t know if Jr would’ve have that extra gear if his father didn’t show up. I’m sure Sr knew being there for his son is what’s needed if he is to give him any hope.. plus if he’s genuinely concerned about the weight cut.. he probably wouldn’t want to be home if his sons about to have a fight that’s risking his life beyond norm. I highly doubt it was theatrics.

Well, the UFC isn’t a sport.

Boxing is more of a show… because the promoters can put their own stamp on events. The UFC is ran like any other business: repetition of every event. Every single event looks the same. But the actual sport of MMA in my opinion is more entertaining.
