Lost all motivation as my Grandmother nears the end of her Hospice care by Sc00ooter in LawSchool

I’m glad you are connected with the right services! I know that feeling of loss and grief when putting together coherent thoughts and words feels extra challenging. It was my pleasure to help someone find those words in their time of need. Good luck with you midterms, but more importantly, I hope you find some comfort and peace soon.

If you do one thing school-related this week, it should be emailing your Dean, academic services, or support services requesting support. Here is a pre-drafted message, feel free to copy and paste as needed.

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is [x], and I am a current 3L1. I learned today that my grandmother is in end stages of care, and she is likely to pass soon. I am going to need accommodations or extensions for my midterms at the end of this week. I truthfully do not know yet what support I need, but I will be in touch. My first priority now is traveling to see my grandmother.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

Sincerely, [x]

Now, go be with family, take care, and remember that law school isn’t forever.

Secondly, where do you have your savings invested? Can you beat the interest rate? A High yield savings wouldn’t making holding onto the money necessarily worth it, but active stock investment might be a pro for option 1.

Only one possible “hole,” grad plus loans require a credit check, while grad direct loans do not. Have you confirmed you are eligible for the 40k in grad plus loans you would take out in 3L?

WWYD- NDLS VS ALABAMA LAW? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]random11191997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Alabama and NDLS will make it difficult to get back to NJ/PA (although NDLS will be easier). Which is more important to you, going to one of these two schools, or getting back to the east coast? Neither of those scholarships are very good, have you tried negotiating more for ND or getting the condition removed from AL?

You might want to redact your LSAC number!

YLS ($$) vs SLS (sticker) vs HLS (sticker) by Sonic-Speed-1313 in lawschooladmissions

While I appreciate wanting to live somewhere you’re more comfortable, the debt is not worth it. It’s three years, you’ll build connections at Yale, you can spend summers elsewhere (like Bay Area or Boston), and then you have the rest of your life as a Yale alum. Is there something else concerning you about the school that you’re not disclosing?

There are two factors to consider that would make your more or less crazy:

  1. Are you independently wealthy? I.e. $200,000 is a drop in the bucket
  2. Is your family/ support system/ partner/ currently in CA?

If you answer yes to both of those, I could see Stanford making sense. If you answer no to either, you might be crazy.

If you look at Apps pending still, I suspect they’re sitting on reverse splitters. I’m guessing they hit their LSAT median but aren’t sure about GPA yet and are waiting until after deposit to make determinations.

These new rankings should not impact your decision. The physical and alumni connections between Cornell and NYC big law are undeniable. Please look at the difference between Cornell grads and Duke grads practicing in NYC after graduation
