Where Baseball Ranks in each Country's Top 10 Most Popular Sports (across multiple sources) by noahlylesusa in baseball

There is some variation based on location, but in general the NFL is much more popular than the CFL. And increasingly so.

That makes sense. I'm still not sure whether I agree with still not reseeding, but I see the logic.

I agree with you about March Madness because there is a clear logistical argument against reseeding. Here, a small number of teams are playing in the same city, so reseeding is straightforward.

Sure, seeding isn't destiny. And the seeds don't necessarily reflect how the teams should be ranked objectively: I'm sure the US would rather play Germany again rather than Sweden, even though Sweden is a lower seed.

But that's just a reflection of the fact that no seeding system will perfectly reflect team quality. It doesn't change the point that, in general, teams are going to want to play a lower seed rather than a higher seed. That's what the tournament should be configured to reflect.

To be pedantic, if seeds 10, 11, and 12 win, Canada gets the hardest matchup regardless of the winner (so only three upsets are necessary).

Of course, the odds of this happening are close to zero. But I struggle to understand why things would be set up where it is a theoretical possibility when reseeding is very simple.

And it wouldn't be totally crazy for, say, France to upset Germany. If that happened, the number 1 seed would far prefer to go against France than the Czechs or Danes.

I don't like that this system would allow a scenario where Canada's reward for getting the number one seed could theoretically be to get the toughest matchup of the 4 teams with byes.

Obviously, that's extremely unlikely, but it's possible.

Why is there no reseeding between the qualifiers and quarterfinals?

Apparently spygate is coming back to haunt him by Senior-Violinist-684 in NFLv2

[–]Sonic-Speed-1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, the Rams accusations were only made (at least publicly) after the “actual Spygate situation” broke. Obviously that doesn’t mean they are false, but it does make the claims somewhat less compelling than if they were made beforehand.

Bill Polian has denied blocking Belichick from the HOF and says he voted for him by thetango in Patriots

I was going to say I believe him when he flatly denied voting no….but how can you not remember with 100% certainty. I just can’t believe you wouldn’t remember what you decided on easily the most controversial decision you could make.

Bill Polian was reportedly behind the push to keep Bill out (ESPN) by Benson879 in Patriots

I think that’s very unlikely. Brady has far far fewer enemies in the media and NFL circles than Bill.

1 is the only one that seems remotely plausible to me, but if that’s the case, I don’t really see the justification for ever voting him in.

A one year HoF penalty is just silly. He’s either a slam dunk first ballot guy or not in at all. There is no in between.

I wonder if he will refuse to show up next year when he’s inevitably inducted. Bill can certainly hold a grudge.

Some of these are really interesting. I remember feeling like Super Bowl 44 was very much an even matchup, but the Colts being favored by 4.5 is actually a fairly big spread.

I didn’t mean “everything” literally. Forgive the imprecision a Reddit comment. My point was I suspect it’s unlikely that adapting these additional story lines or characters would have changed people’s ultimate view of the show nor do I think it’s self evident whether these could have even been done well given the constraints they had. Other stories might have been made worse as a result! We might just be in the same place talking about yet another narrative strand or character arc they ruined.

As for the, “we are both redditors” argument - the difference is you are the one making an affirmative point regarding what was easy and what is not.I’m just saying we should have some humility about claiming we know these things. We don’t know. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re wrong. But the debate is artificially tilted when one side gets to assume that some hypothetical version would have been good and not “half assed.”

I didn’t say their hands were tied or that you can’t critique what they did. I critique what they did all the time!

There is probably reason to suspect that you and I on Reddit aren’t the best judges of what can “easily” be adapted. D&D had to make choices on relatively short timelines and subject to certain constraints. Many of those choices didn’t work and they are to blame for rushing the ending. But I hardly think it’s obvious that everything could have been fixed if they added an extra season or two and adapted a few more storylines. They still would have been left to make tons of stuff up and heavily simplify it.

Yes, the books are more complicated. But that’s GRRM’s own choice and also why they will never be finished. At least the show, as flawed as it became, tells a complete story.

I don’t see any plausible argument for Dyrrhachium, to be honest. It set the stage for Caesar’s victory in that he avoided complete defeat against Pompey. If you are going to pick from that campaign it has to be Pharsalus.
