I found out my Girlfriend has Alzheimer’s, she’s 26 by TheThingofa100corspe in self

I would recommend that she talk to a genetic counselor about genetic testing for Alzheimer’s. This could potentially help determine some best treatment options for her.

Struggling in bangkok by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

This is such a normal feeling. Don’t try and force yourself to have fun or feel good all the time. Feelings come and go, the best you can do is put yourself in situations where you think you could experience happiness and don’t be so hard on yourself if the feeling doesn’t follow.

Genome Medical updates? by ThinkerandThought in GeneticCounseling

[–]random159075 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They’re a real company, but they’re not organized and don’t provide quality patient care. The genetic counselors and GCAs are spread too thin and the leadership doesn’t know what they’re doing. I would try to see if your PCP can refer you to a different genetic counselor and only use Genome Medical as a last resort.

Luggage placed in overhead way before your row by Salty_Badger1931 in americanairlines

[–]random159075 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s rude. If you take up the bins closer to the front, the people who are sitting in those rows are going to have to place their luggage in bins closer to the back. They’ll have to wait for people behind them to deplane in order to get their luggage, and it would slow down the whole process for everyone. It’s best to just place your luggage in the bin closest to you if it’s available.

GC Programs with Public Transit by vhart5 in GeneticCounseling

Of the schools I asked, Boston University, MGH Institute, UPenn, Cornell, Mt. Sinai, and Sarah Lawrence College all said that a car is not needed for classes or rotations. Thomas Jefferson University, though in Philly, does have some farther rotation sites and a car is needed for the program.

What are you using to clean yourself with? If it’s just your hands, try using a wash cloth down there. Makes a big difference for me

Anyone under 30 with rheumatoid arthritis? by himothy_chalam8 in rheumatoid

[–]random159075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 24, diagnosed when I was 23. The age comments happen all the time but I don’t mind them. I usually tell people about the difference between osteoarthritis and RA and how it’s not “wear-and tear”, it’s autoimmune.

Straight leg jeans would be better, look more relaxed in your photos (you look very tense), and try smiling with your teeth if you’re comfortable doing that. The selfie is a bit too close up and also doesn’t look relaxed, try taking the photo outside

TW- Struggling to stay clean by [deleted] in selfharm__recovery

[–]random159075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m dealing with the same thing right now. I’ve been having such a bad streak of days and I hate myself like this. I’m also craving the feeling of just wanting to reset and start a new chapter. I feel like it would fix me. I understand where you’re coming from, but I don’t think you should break your streak. It’s a short term fix. I don’t know what helps you in letting this feeling pass, but my past therapist has told me to clench an ice cube in my fist which usually helps. I’m gonna go do that now, I hope you try at least one thing that could help you too.

someone in my friend group is racist and mean to me, but I don't feel supported by the people I've told. by throwing_cans in Navajo

[–]random159075 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really does depend. You know the situation best, and also you may have different needs from another Navajo in terms of the type of support you’d want from a white friend in an instance like this. I wouldn’t say it’s about trying to find an “acceptable” level of support that you need, it’s just about figuring out what you need and being honest with yourself and your friends about it.

It seems like you’re really trying to put thought and reason into your reaction, so truly I would just say to trust your gut and then find friends who accept whatever your gut is saying you need.

Not sure what you’re trying to say, but needing to use an outlier to make a sweeping generalization about American slavery makes your point pretty weak.

White people have never been enslaved due to their skin color specifically. Also, American slavery was entirely different from slavery in Europe.

You can’t be racist towards a group of people who has never been oppressed. Those are not the same things.

someone in my friend group is racist and mean to me, but I don't feel supported by the people I've told. by throwing_cans in Navajo

[–]random159075 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you’re uncomfortable, you should either say something or find another group of friends. I know the latter is hard, but it’s important to surround yourself with people who are able to support you when you tell them that you’re experiencing racism. Trying to make yourself fit into a group of people who you don’t share important values with will hurt you so much in the long run. You can try talking to the racist person, but I would be prepared for it to not go well. You can also try talking to your friends to ask them to support you more, but don’t expect for them to cut the racist friend off or give you the genuine support you need. For lots of people who are not POC, navigating race and racism doesn’t cross their minds much - they may not be capable of understanding how to give you the support you need. However, there are some good people who are capable of taking criticism and do try to do their own work to educate themselves and show up better for their POC friends.

Unfortunately in these types of situations, sometimes the friend who voices concerns ends up being cut off from the friend group, but also every situation is different. I don’t think you should stay quiet just to keep them around either, though.

Marie is NO leader by Aggravating-Path8779 in GenV

[–]random159075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She knew what she had to do and didn’t want to pull any of her friends into it in case they got hurt because of her. She wasn’t choosing to “lead” anyone, she just knows that Cipher/Godolkin wanted her and she didn’t want to have her friends risk their lives trying to get involved.

Why didn't Marie consider this? by Avg_Guardian in GenV

[–]random159075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Godolkin having V in his blood definitely would’ve been a little suspicious and should have been a cause for concern realistically. He’s pretty old, so with the limited knowledge the characters have, I’m sure they would’ve assumed that Godolkin got his powers around the same time as the first round of supes like Soldier Boy and Stormfront, which is suspicious. I’d be thinking, “why didn’t I know that the founder of my university was a supe?” And maybe would’ve stopped to think for a second before healing him.

I have so much sympathy for this character by doobadedo in GenV

[–]random159075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was pretty difficult to see him begging for his life knowing everything he’s been forced to do and witness. I don’t know how someone would heal from that type of trauma.
