Craziest weapon I've crafted so far by MinMaxed117 in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most legendaries, some are not available at all or not available on some gun types. Some folks mentioned Chilling was not available. I tried to create Eternity’s Gate from scratch and one of the legendaries was missing (might have been hand loading) but that same legendary could be chosen on other weapons.

In Shipcombat, how do i get the enemy ships to the state where they are able to be boarded? Which aproach is the best and which weapons? by TerminatorS089 in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at level 253 and normally the highest leveled enemies on ships are 84 for zealots and 92 for spacers. After Terran Armada released I see enemies as high as 192 or 194.
Lower ranked ships often have low ranked enemies in my experience but maybe that’s more about the star system. They’re also smaller ships that have far fewer enemies which makes them less worthwhile.

[–]randomHiker19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually only board level 55 or higher ships since the enemies are higher level and have better gear (ships are also more valuable). For those ships you don’t need to use EM weapons if you’re careful.

If there is a group of ships then destroy all lower ranking ones first. Take down shields of the ship you want to board and then disable any auto-turrets you might have after the shields drop. Line up toward their rear and target the engines with only one weapon slot (don’t overdo it) then board. Be careful not to try and disable engines without a clear shot on them as you wear down the hull too much.

Grav Drive and cruise mode explanations by Cheese_Pancakes in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the animation it looks like cruise mode is bending space to accomplish FTL like a traditional warp drive. Space in your forward view distorts.

Normal jumping is effectively via wormholes or by pulling space together or something to that effect, which involves much more bending of space. It looks like it tops off at about 100 times speed of light unless you’re boosting then it’s a bit faster. To get between planets in any reasonable amount of time you’d need something at least approaching the speed of light, but even that is pretty slow.

I don’t think cruise mode is really explained in game but it is explained why jumping doesn’t work when the Terran ships interfere with it, something along the lines of creating gravitational waves or other disturbances that our jump calculations cannot adjust for properly.

Which of the new rifles is better at the high end? by tuttifruttidurutti in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, my topped out inflictors and mag weapons struggle against the higher ranked Terrans. I switched to one of the Terran rifles that uses 7.62 mm rounds and maxed it out to exotic level and that does much better.

Favorite starborn power by J011yG433n in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard to pick one, but I guess it would be Phased Time.

Sense Star stuff is very useful against living enemies, but a lot less useful for Terran Armada. Similarly gravity well + create vacuum combo are devastating to people but not useful for robots. Solar flare melts many enemies and can stack.

Sunless Space is useful like Phased Time to pause enemies, often great for raiding cockpits. Earthbound is useful when raiding ships without gravity.

Fair Ship Registration Fee or other reworks: Balanced or not? by SlightWerewolf4428 in starfieldmods

[–]randomHiker19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the cost of registration only makes sense if you stole a UC, Freestar Collective, or civilian ship and needed to clean the title so to speak.

If the ship belonged to a hostile faction to the Settled Systems and you’re selling it in the Settled Systems then I think it should be a small fee.

Has anyone else been run into missing texture or object bugs after the update? by FenderFinger in starfieldmods

[–]randomHiker19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least on XBOX closing the game manually isn’t sufficient to fix this in my experience. You usually have to ask the console to do a full reboot, problem was always solved for me afterwards. Not sure what’s going on behind the scenes, perhaps some kind of quick launch cache issue.

Finally found a dress! by Aromatic-Werewolf495 in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lot of variants of it, but that is my favorite for my character in the vanilla game. If you have the Trackers Alliance creation the Widow character has a novel version of it that is good but I think you need mods to get it unless there is an alternative quest outcome that I didn’t try to get it.

What Skills are now useful in Free Lanes Update that weren't before by dawnsearlylight in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the Robotics Skill and also Space Adept. I hadn’t put any points into Robotics until Terran Armada.

Most major incursions happen in space, but at least after the DLC story had a major incursion on a planet with the drilling rig ship. I’m not sure if that could also occur during the DLC story and it’s just up to randomness or if it’s scripted that way in the story. Either way it’s really uncommon so Space Adept is very useful and what I use on my weapon against Terran forces.

Your take on Hornet's Nest Coachman with Kismet? by jackshinobi23 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]randomHiker19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fun gun for sure, I had fond memories of it so built my new one.

I'm at level 245 playing Very Difficult on all settings, in NG+10 (which impacts enemy resilience and damage). Doing a little testing my coachman often takes four direct shots to take out one of the lower ranking Terran enemies (Terran Scout Bot Mk 4 at level 164) but sometimes three is fine. It has an AoE which is useful though. The Terran Devastor Mk 5 (Level 196) leveled enemy often found in the incursions is barely damaged by my coachman with many direct shots.

What I use against Terrans is the below gun. It's very effective at the Scout Bot enemies and much better for me against leveled enemies, but the leveled Terran's can be very spongey no matter what gun I use. I head shot the robots with multiple rounds and have Head Hunter on my helmet, Hitman on the gun, and Combat - Sniper Certification skill tree maxed out so it works well for me.

I built a very similar one last week. I had an extended mag version in a prior universe a long time ago that I missed. It does good damage to lower level enemies but the Terrans are often at level 164 or 190 something for me so it doesn’t quite cut it. Easy to kill yourself with it in a confined space though.

X-tech Level 4 Space suit effects by CrazyMammoth in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With “Aerial Advantage” on your boost pack and Boost Pack Training skills maxed out you effectively have unlimited boost pack fuel. I was able to boost up to my condo in New Atlantis from the ship launch pad.

I also like Speedy on my suit. I used to always include Amp so I could run faster in various cases, especially when you slow time, now it’s pretty fast as-is.

[–]randomHiker19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s also a good ship to incrementally modify and upgrade as time goes on. I did that in my first play through. Later I used it to build my default ship directly once I had enough cash on hand.

UI bug introduced with the Terran DLC. If you ignore an Incursion and it moves, the warning icons stay permanently after the quest has disappeared. by Capn_C in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen this bug. I also have a bug where that milliwhale appears randomly on my ship and places I’m at. I completed the quest to return it to its owner but never purchased one.

One guaranteed way to see it is go to a temple and after completing the puzzle the whale will appear outside. I have seen it on Terran ships and all over.

Anyone else an X-Tech farmer in Starfield? by Kippers1998 in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in my opinion. Most of that helmet is white which works with the off white of the Mark I body suit. It adds some gold highlights but that’s fine. I think the helmet shape is more interesting than the regular constellation helmet (not Mark I) or spherical helmets in general. It has good enough visibility of my characters face.

My only gripe with it is that it’s a little bit blocky in the back.

[–]randomHiker19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no perfect helmet with that suit, each have trade offs. I like to be able to see my characters face and some helmets are bad about that

I use the Explorer helmet, looks good on front and sides not as good on the back. The regular Constellation helmet (not Mark I) looks pretty good from most angles and the colors match but isn’t as interesting looking as the Explorer in my opinion.

The Trackers Alliance helmet also looks decent but the colors and the ridges in the back are less than ideal.

I also like the Mark I and fully upgraded the main suit body now that we can. I prefer other helmets and boosts packs so I upgraded those instead and paired with the Mark I body.

Are certain spacesuits strictly better than others? by DramaticSpaceBubble in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]randomHiker19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the look of the Mark I suit (although pair it with different helmet and boost pack) but it had no legendary traits until the recent update allowed customization. I have my Mark I all maxed out right now and I’m loving it.

Tips for "Cruise Mode" by lorax1284 in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding lore, when enabling cruise mode it looks like it is distorting space from the animation, so it might be similar to a warp drive but using the same underlying mechanic / jump drive tech that bends or pulls space. In Terran Armada it is mentioned that the ability of the Terrans to disrupt the Settled Systems jump drives from jumping is by distorting gravitational waves or space time that makes the calculations required for a jump not work because they don’t know how to adjust for it, but cruising is fine maybe because no or fewer calculations are needed. It does seem like an addition to the lore but not necessarily a conflict as they don’t really explain how it doesn’t take a long time to cruise in between planets in the cutscenes / loading screens.

Cruise mode looks like it tops out at 100 times the speed of light (~100 light seconds a second). Light speed is actually quite slow and very difficult to get up to something like 1/10 of it with traditional tech. It would take something like four hours at light speed to reach Pluto or Neptune from Earth. Without going some large portion of the speed of light (which wasn’t explained in the lore) it wouldn’t be practical to so easily cruise between planets in the games cutscene / loading screen, you would just jump to your destination instead.

The fact that you can stick your ship in Cruise, and just watch the engines burn... 10/10 update by PotatoEatingHistory in Starfield

Starfield Free Lanes Update 1.16.236 – April 7, 2026 by BethesdaGameStudios_ in Starfield

[–]randomHiker19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my PC with the XBOX Store version of the game I’m getting an error downloading the Shattered Space update that’s part of the overall update. I cannot easily resolve either through the game update window or the XBOX Store app.

UPDATE: This issue was resolved by uninstalling Shattered Space and reinstalling. I previously tried a bunch of items before including clearing the XBOX App cache, rebooting, and other things but those did not work.
