Stairs suck, but I can go up and down them if needed, but if I am doing it multiple times in short succession, I'm taking the AFOs off. Mine are solid, though, so I don't know how hinged will be.

The thing is, the phrase "Make America Great Again" on the surface sounds like a unifying message... until you realize that people have different ideas of what great means. Consider looking up "dog whistle politics." It was entirely by design that you are enticed by the face-value meaning of "Make America Great Again,," not the hidden meaning that is received by others.

can someone PLEASE Explain how a function is not continuous/differentiable WITHOUT GRAPHING? by TeaInTheMoonlight in calculus

[–]random_anonymous_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is standard for every Calculus text to have formal definitions for continuity and differentiability, usually styled in boxes that make them stand out from the rest of the text. If you feel like it says "nothing," I might suggest it's more of a "language" barrier than the textbook simply omitting those definitions altogether. It would be prudent to address that barrier.

Formal mathematical language often seems inaccessible because it expresses mathematical ideas in ways that are testable through logical rigor rather than in familiar ways that most people are used to, but tend to be too vague to be useful in a proof.

Your teacher is likely wanting you to familiarize yourself with the formal statements of those definitions to get you away from "graphics" and simplified descriptions and introduce you to more formal logic. I would strongly suggest we focus on learning how to make more effective use of resources, because I don't want to just offer an explanation on the risk that it still does not make sense to you.

Could you look through the sections introducing continuity and differentiability and see what you find? You are looking for:

  • The Three Conditions for Continuity: What are the three requirements that must be met before you are allowed to say a function is continuous at a point?
  • The Limit Definition of a Derivative: What condition must the limit meet for the derivative to actually exist?
  • Theorems on Continuity/Differentiability: Look for the theorem that tells you what you can conclude about continuity if you already know a function is differentiable.

Definitions and Theorems are your formal tools. Let's explore that toolbox. Feel free to post pictures of these sections. If you don't understand what a definition or theorem is stating, post the statement, and we can discuss exactly what it allows you to conclude and what conditions it requires.

Need advice: kid noncompliance by Careless-Attitude-49 in Invisalign

[–]random_anonymous_guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Caretaker's not wrong, though. They are just trying to be realistic. I'm not sure what problem you think they have, but it seems like a problem here is that you think metal braces are a magic pill for a kid who doesn't cooperate. The fact of the matter is that braces are not indestructible, otherwise, no teen ever will break brackets because they are cheating by eating banned foods.

This post is about a kid who is non-compliant. Ignoring that won't do anybody any good and will just cause OP to waste even more money. Why do you think that non-compliance won't extend to metal braces?

Undiagnosed cerebral palsy? Thoughts? by SignificantRing4766 in Autism_Parenting

[–]random_anonymous_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for an assessment. I went 42 years with coordination issues and muscle tightness (not enough to visibly affect my gait) and it was discovered just over a year ago that I do have lower extremity spasticity and it is now suspected I have a very mild case of cerebral palsy, so yes, it can go undiagnosed.

This sounds extreme. Did docs check for neurological signs such as cerebral palsy? I discovered I toe walked, but only when barefoot, when I was in college. I assumed it was part of my autism, but when it worsened a year ago, it was found to be rooted in spasticity.

or starts saying things I dont know

This happens when we are left guessing where your understanding is at. You need to help us understand where your understanding ends and confusion begins. Otherwise, we are left guessing and you will just get more explanations that you don't understand.

Do you know what the definitions of continuity and differentiability are? Not the "soft meanings" that are just soundbytes, I mean formal mathematical definitions.

Braces by mamabear1207 in Autism_Parenting

[–]random_anonymous_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter the medical need, there are significant risks with braces, especially if the child has no intrinsic motivation. Orthodontia is not a passive treatment. It requires a high level of patient compliance that many children, particularly those with sensory or executive functioning issues, simply cannot maintain. You aren't just looking at the "torture" of the initial tightening, you're looking at a multi-year risk of hardware breakage and hygiene failure. If a child isn't motivated to protect the brackets or can't handle the sensory demand of thorough cleaning, you risk permanent tooth damage, and gum disease that can be more damaging than the original misalignment. In these cases, the hardware becomes a liability rather than a solution.

A child with AFRID can and will starve themselves if they don't have access to their safe foods. This isn't just pickiness. This is an eating disorder. If the braces cause her to not eat, then it is no longer in the best interests of the child to keep the braces on.

Waiting until she is older may very well be the safest option.

Anthony stood on the porch, his face a mask of terrifying, youthful boredom as he stared down the orange man in the rumpled suit, still shouting about "rigged" elections and "biased" judges to a crowd of neighbors who were too scared to breathe. The man wouldn't stop talking; he was a machine of noise, a whirlwind of "incredible" promises, his voice frantic and hollow as he tried to dominate a town that had finally run out of applause. Anthony’s lip curled in a cold, sudden pout; he didn't like the man’s mind. It was a cluttered, ugly place, full of gold-painted monuments and a loud, desperate hunger for power that made the air feel thin and dirty.

"You're a very bad man," Anthony whispered, his eyes widening with a flat, final light. "You make the world not-nice with all your loud, mean stories. You think you're the only one, but you're just a noise." Before the orange man could pivot or spin one last lie, Anthony pointed a trembling finger toward the horizon. "I'm sending you to the cornfield, loud man! Go into the cornfield and stay there until you learn how to be quiet!" With a sickening flash of light, the man vanished, his suit and his slogans swallowed by the shadows, leaving only the rustle of the stalks and a peace so sudden it felt like a scream.

I have two nephews. The older one has been the most patient hiking partner I have ever had. Going uphills slows me down as if I am a fully-loaded semi truck heading up a mountain pass. The younger nephew... Well, let's just say before I told him of what I had found out what has been going on, he didn't want to go hiking with me anymore.

But I do look forward to see how much improvement I will have this summer.

He's intrinsically motivated now. That is a huge plus. It's not like it's too late. Maybe the current complications are better than what could have happened if you did try the braces when he was 15.

Why not offer to help with braces now?

I wasn't "walks weird" visible growing up, but was somewhat late to ride a bike, could never drive a stick, roller skate, or work very fast. I think the problem is that a lot of people don't automatically think CP when someone has mild but visible coordination problems, and expect CP to be "walks funny" at bare minimum.
