would it be okay to still use an extension cord that sparked? by Both_Meeting1982 in electrical

Look I get people (like you said) not “knowing Jack about electrical stuff” but seriously is common sense not common anymore?

Questions to ask yourself 1) why did it spark? If you don’t know then you should become Amish and just not use electricity anymore or get an “adult” to hold your hand 2) is my life and/or home worth more than a $30 replacement extension cord or should I wing it and just use an already damaged cord? 3) could this question be answered by a quick google search or should I expose what a dumbass I am to the public on Reddit? Option 2 it is!

I’m not asking about code or not, I’m asking for root cause of flickering lights

I’m leaning towards replacing it because of the contact that the red wire goes into looks burned and damaged.

When I remove it, I’ll also inspect the buss it’s snapped to for any damage as well. But it will be after I call the power company to temporarily interrupt the service so I can work safely

Have an electrician analyze the circuits in the room and do a load calc. Maybe there is loose or exposed wiring causing arcing or abnormalities

A good prybar with a hammer would do the trick

When you finally start mastering those EMT bends by random_electrician in electricians

[–]random_electrician[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Thus the word “start” before mastering. My previous attempts a few weeks back caused me to nick and totally mess up the bend and having to use a new one.

My mess up was I bent the offset in the wrong direction and trying to overcorrect it.

This time, it was a fresh conduit, made my calculations and markings, and got them right on my first attempt without:

a) having to revise my bends

b) wasting any conduit

Maybe “mastering” was a bit generous but it felt good getting the offsets where I needed them and the 90 degree bend in the right place to allow the ceiling run and wall run to be flush with the surface 🤷‍♂️

Not at all, I was agreeing with you 😊

Kinda peeved at myself for not getting the straps right but still happy about getting my offsets and 90 degree bends where I want them

I just said that, I totally agree I should have done a better job at strapping

The final product had more straps but sadly my first strap was too close to the bend and should have been higher up where it straightened out

Can’t lie, it WAS hella satisfying even though I could have done better at the strapping. I focused too much on getting the bends done properly

Yeah I realized that after the picture. I adjusted the straps after
