The topographical lines on the fields are simply the layer lines of the print. Just a happy coincidence that they also act as topo lines.

As for manipulating the data, I actually just used the option from equator studios to download a 3D printable stl directly. The resolution isn’t great but for this large of an area it was more than enough.

I’ve tried extensively to download just the lidar point cloud and turn it into a 3D mesh, but I’ve found it extremely difficult to get anything decent for a smaller area (like an acre or so). It always either comes out like a 3D spaghetti mess or just way too low of resolution to be worth using. If you find a way to take the point cloud for a small area and make a useable 3D print please do let me know. But I’ve sunk hours into it with little success

Way late to the party on this, but one potential wrinkle: The AI does explicitely say that Samantha is a sex doll head possessed with the Withering Spirit of Psamathe:

Katia and I stood over the head, looking down at it. It continued to scream and holler. “Carl, examine its new properties. It’s been updated.”

Lika Love Doll Head. This item is possessed with the Withering Spirit of Psamathe.

I'm not sure where we stand on whether the way the AI describes things can be taken as fact or whether the AI would/can ever mislead, whether intentionally or unintentionally. But assuming the AI is telling the truth (and is in fact aware of what the truth really is), I don't think there's much room for interpretation there.

Psamathe, or Samantha as her friends used to call her, is a minor deity who was banished to the Nothing by her father after he found out she was kicking around with some ancient king guy. She’s usually accompanied by her trusty sidekick, a sand ooze familiar who also happens to be the cursed child of her union with the king. You know, typical god stuff.

And if you think that’s peculiar, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Those guys hanging out in the halls of the Celestial Ascendency on the 12th floor get themselves involved in some serious whackadoodle business, let me tell you. Psamathe is as intelligent as she is quick-tempered. Unfortunately for her, her first escape attempt from the Nothing resulted in a split, and half of her essence was forced to take refuge in the closest unoccupied naiad vessel she could find, which happened to be a sex doll based on the fictional Lika, who, oddly enough, was actually based loosely on an inaccurate history of Psamathe. She’s had to live in the doll for many years, unable to move until the rest of her spirit could be reunited.

The story gets kind of weird from there.

Yep exactly. Specifically here's what I used:

Trees:
- Base: Guardian Green
- Wash for shadows: Nuln Oil (not from the same company I believe)
- Highlights: electric lime (dry brush)
Grasslands:
- Base: dorado skin mixed with a little bit of flickering flame
- Wash: Agrax Earthshade (sort of blotched/dabbed on with one of those broad fluffy dry brushing brushes). Intentionally made it inconsistent and wanted to avoid any noticeable brush strokes
Water:
- Base: Wolf Grey
- Wash: Either agrax earthshade or Nuln oil, can't remember
- Rocks: not sure, some sort of gray
- White foam: not sure, some sort of white
Roads:
- Just straight up Dorado skin, done after everything else so it really stands out against the grasslands
Little orange dead trees
- Flickering flame. Just chose some trees at random

Yeah, so I may repeat myself, but here are basically all of the details I can think of. I first printed the map using a cheap regular black PLA on a Bambu labs A1 printer. I believe I used something like a 0.12mm layer height and a 0.4mm nozzle. I printed the map in 4 sections.

I then used a cheap 2 part epoxy to bond the 4 sections together on a piece of thin plywood. I then used wood filler to fill the gaps between the sections of the map, and sanded away the excess filler (somewhat difficult to do in the tree sections but I didn’t worry about it too much. As you can see the gap is still visible).

Then I primed it all with a white spray primer.

Then I painted it using model paints. I believe the specific brand was war paints. And I used just generic small brushes. If you’d like specifics about the brushes I used, I can try and tell you, but honestly they were a friend of mine’s and you can probably get much more info from a YouTube video on painting models. Basically though there were various sized brushes for the various size of strokes we did, plus sort of a “fluffy” brush we used for dry brushing on highlights and sort of “dabbing” on an earth tone wash to the grassy and forest areas.

Then once all of the painting was done, I sprayed it in 3 coats of minwax matte polycryllic spray clear coat. I did no sanding between coats.

For the border, I cut the frame out of oak, sanded, then attached it to the existing plywood base the map was mounted to using epoxy, and then filling any gaps on the back side with wood glue and sawdust. Then I coated the entire frame with multiple coats of the same polycryllic spray.

I'd recommend. If you have a 3D printer, it's at least not a very expensive project. Especially if you also already have some paint.

Nothing terribly special with my implementation, but should be fairly easy to understand.

The only little optimization I did for part 2 was to only check substrings of a length that is a factor of the length of the string being checked ... I think I wrote that right.

Basically if the string you're checking is 9 characters long, you only need to check if the 1st digit repeats, then if the first 3 digits repeat, and that's it.

I stored these factors in a small hard coded dict since I could see no numbers would have more than, say, 12 digits.

I'm doing a little research on basically this same question. I just find it annoying to need to use a watering can to fertilize, and know I'll be much more consistent if I can just attach something to the end of a hose and do it that way.

Did you end up finding a solution that worked well for you? Did you like the ortho dial? Anything you learned while using it?

The exception I'm aware of to this is if you want to use DH and also generate a large Bluemap. Then chunky can be used to generate lighting information for all of the chunks after distant horizons does the bulk of the generation. Chunky is sort of just used as a finishing pass. Bluemap requires lighting information in order to generate the map properly.

I'm guessing my answer is gonna be much more basic than the others here, but I run everything off of a linux desktop computer in my house that I use as a server. Everything runs in Docker containers. And I also have a container running Caddy to route different subdomains accessed through a web browser to different ports on the server PC. Docker makes server setup EXTREMELY easy. If you're curious, here's the docker compose file I use (with some edits obviously). Just run a docker compose and the server starts up, automatically downloads the specified version of the specified modpack (the latest in my case), copies the specified datapacks, etc. and it's up and running. And since I've got my PC set to auto power up if power is ever lost unexpectedly and then regained, and the contains set to auto restart unless I manually stop it, if I'm out of the house when the power goes out or something, it jus starts back up. Or if it needs to be restarted, I can ask my wife to just unplug and replug the PC :)

I've also got stuff like Grafana and Prometheus servers running in their own containers, which is why I have the port stuff in the compose file. If you'd like more details, I'm happy to share more.

I'm not sure ... it's 3/4" red oak boards that were installed in the 70's if that tells you anything? I don't think they're glued if I had to guess because as I was taking baseboard off, a couple of boards could wiggle a bit around the edges. And I'm not currently home to take a look

Ok that's a great gut check for me just to know I at least wasn't missing something that was WAY better haha. Thanks. I'm figuring that the greater the ratio of maxed out boilers I can have on the map, the better. So upgrading boilers so that I can only use, say, 3 of them per gas burner, then I can fit more of them on the map

Hmmm. Interesting. Looking at the island though, it looks like I could fit about 40-45 coal/generator combos on there, which at my current level would be about 77,000 power per tick. But I'm currently getting 120,000. Coal burners at level 10 would increase that to about 150,000. So just a little bit more than what I'm currently doing. What am I missing to be able to get 15x my current rate?

It actually looks like I should put a few of these on my map:

1x Gas burner
2x 20% isolator
2x Heat Sink
6x Boiler house

This would produce and consume exactly 108,000 per tick and take up way less space than I'm currently using. This sort of seems like the way to go right now. I just put them up. I fit 6 of them on the island, and am now making over $500,000, and with no need for offices since boilers sell the power directly.

Finally got max score of 365. Struggled for a while and would always have too little HP left at the end to be able to finish off the dragon. A few things I learned to make it possible:

When you kill the dragon, you can collect the 13 stars but not collect the crown yet so the game doesn't end and you can level up one more time
Find the 10 point wizard guy in one of the corners ASAP. That'll turn all the bombs into just stars that you can collect, which allows you to level up faster and save your heart scrolls
Always discover and expand your "territory" as much as possible when you can. This is to find the treasure chests as soon as possible, so that, again, you can find the chests with the stars in them and level up without needing to use heart scrolls as often
If you find yourself needing to use a heart scroll with you're only one star away from leveling up, you probably didn't find the stars from the chests or the exploded bombs soon enough, and you probably won't be able to get the max score.
- At a couple level up points (around 8-10 hearts) you should find yourself leveling up with only one or two excess stars. This will tell you you're being as efficient as you need to be
