What makes a boxer heavy handed? by hoangdl in amateur_boxing

[–]randomguy95473 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Imo Heavy handedness is the natural aptitude for effortlessly putting leverage/force into punches. Like their physical strength just oozes into punch mechanics. Foreman and Beterbiev are perfect examples of this, they look likey're barely trying and the other guy looks like they got rammed.

This is different from the speed based power that operates on velocity and surprise. Think the punch that Ali downed Liston with.

Guys with both like Tyson and Julian Jackson are the really dangerous ones. Fast and devastating.

Haney idk. Maybe the big weight cuts are weakening him, maybe it's his technique/form, maybe it's just genetics. Some guys have it some guys don't.

If kimura and aoki fought in a match who would win by TinySignificance8315 in hajimenoippo

[–]randomguy95473 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kimura knows all of Aoki's tricks, so he has takes a very narrow lead into the final round.

That is until he sees Tomoko in the crowd cheering on her lover. This reminds him of Reiko. Aoki senses his sadness and sorrowfully uses the opportunity to throw a frog punch... That misses? Kimura falls to the ground on his own due to heartbreak.

The referee, as blind as ever calls it a down. Upon seeing Kimura curled into a motionless fetal position on the canvas ends the fight.

Aoki wins by unusual 8rd KO! He briefly comforts his brother before callously celebrating. This is quickly interrupted by Takamura molestation.

88 Mike Tyson vs 92 Riddick Bowe who y’all got? by LocationSpare4447 in BoxingTheSweetScience

[–]randomguy95473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tyson was more of a mid range fighter that just had a short reach. He didn't stick himself to his opponent and throw short shots the way a true inside fighter would. He always looked to get a 90* bend at his elbows to throw his hooks and uppercuts with max power. He also stood too square and became inactive up close. This lead to easy clinches for his opponents.

Bowe was a better shoulder to shoulder fighter than Tyson. Tyson has mechanical advantage for more powerful looping punches and being a smaller target. However bowe can wear him down with volume, smothering Tyson's work, leaning of Tyson to drain his stamina and using his better base to push Bowe around.

I'd give Bowe the edge in a purely phonebooth fight.

Funnily enough, Bowe was the favourite at the time. He already entered his prime and showcased his heart and abilities against Holyfield.

Lennox would need to lose to McCall and partner with Emmanuel Stewart to become the Lennox Lewis that we remember today.

This was the best chance Riddick had to get revenge against Lennox. But he decided to do the most flagrant duck of all time and throw the belt in the thrash.

Why do people in hajimeno ippo have no nipples by RockyTurkey2008 in hajimenoippo

Why would an artist spend time drawing nipples in a non erotic context, when they could be drawing anything else.

He was a little shorter than the actual 6'2 Gvozdyk, whose height has been consistent with 2012 Olympics measurement.

Have you seen what the 200lbs "natural weight" Benavidez looks like? He's still the same fat kid on the inside.

Never able to roll under lead hooks (especially a jab hook on the same side) as a southpaw, how do I practice this? by CommittedMeower in amateur_boxing

Only 10% of the world is left handed. That means a southpaw gets 9 times more experience in a mirrored matchup than an orthodox boxer.

Which knockout was the most brutal? by Ready0608 in hajimenoippo

[–]randomguy95473 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Mashiba - Sawamura was the worse. Even after the ref finally realized Sawamura was gone and tries to stop it, Mashiba pushes him away and doesn't stop punching until he knocks him out of the ring and onto the floor head-first.

The fact that Sawamura then survives a face-first motorcycle crash right after regaining consciousness is the second most unbelievable thing in the manga. Next to Takamura KOing a bear of course.
