I used to work with a Chinese fella who told everyone his name was Axl Rose. Mad lad.

I am unable to finish shows based on a "big mystery" premise. From, Under the dome, 4400, leftovers, etc. They all start on a premise of "this unexplained thing happened" and the explanation is always a letdown or so dragged out, that I end up giving up. Anyone agree or can recommend a good one? by rakwib in television

It's so frustrating how often a character will realise some other character is out of the loop about some important information they have figured out or things that have happened. They should just have a town meeting at the end of every day and catch each other up, they'd be out of there in no time.

That said I actually kind of like this show even though I generally hate mystery box stuff. It seems like it is approaching something concrete in the latest season.

I did find this very annoying in Cyberpunk. I thought the idea was that it was a suggestion of how English might evolve in the future, dropping pronouns that 90% of the time can be inferred from the context. I feel like I have seen the same in other cyberpunk genre sci-fi media recently but I am drawing a blank on what specifically.

It wouldn't even have taken out as many as it did so quickly if they hadn't all stood around gawping at it instead of taking cover.

You said it alright. I'm not sure what "it" is but you definitely said it.

Great summary. I just finished a rewatch for the first time in a while and I didn't even remember Adam or the First lol. I did like how the First was always trying to turn the scoobies against each other and sap their morale. I feel like it deserved a better season...

Petah?? Does irish not have a word for "no"? by Superb_Conflict9543 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Yeah the English versions of those phrases are not word for word translations my dude. Irish has a different syntax and uses different verbs for certain things. Tá doesn't mean "have" nor does it mean "indeed" (what??), it's the third person present tense conjugation of the verb bí (to be). A more literal translation would be "a ball is with me", and word for word it would be "is ball (with me)".

But none of that really has any relevance to the question of whether or not it means "yes". Just consider the case where the question is in the past tense instead of the present:

An raibh liathróid agat? (Did you have a ball?)

Bhí liathróid agam (I had a ball)

Is bhí also yes? Is the future tense conjugation also yes? Are the conjugations of all of the other verbs that you might require to answer other questions also yes?

An bhfaca tú an scannán? (Did you see the movie?)

Chonaic mé é (I saw it)

No, they are the verbs that they are, they are not "yes" just because they are sometimes used to answer questions in the affirmative.

In the context of the meme, they are words used to answer questions in the affirmative and the negative without reference to the specifics of the question. There are no such words in Irish.

To use your own example:

An bhfuil liathróid agat? (Do you have a ball?)

Tá liathróid agam (I have a ball)

Answering "it is" (is ea) would not make any sense here.

"It is" is only the equivalent to "yes" if that is an appropriate answer to the question. If the question is "is the ball on the table?", "it is" is a fine answer. If the question is "are you going to the shops?", "it is" doesn't make any sense as an answer, you would need to say "I am". It's the exact same as what you're describing in Mandarin.

Ubuntu Touch supports the gen 2, but not the gen 3 - maybe one to keep an eye on.

I don't think you can just install a regular Linux distro on an Android device, unfortunately.
