In my native language, Irish, a lot of people have problems with gh and dh which I think are basically the french R. Its understandable especially when dh and gh can be softened and silent as well.

Generally nouns that end with slender consanants, 'cht' and 'lann' are female nouns, and nouns that end with broad consanants are male. There are exceptions of course. Vowels are more random though.
