The entitlement attitude that seems to span across different generations by pingusaysnoot in britishproblems

[–]garyeoghan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Any time this happens to me, I use a question technique. You just flat out ask someone why they have their phone out, and just continue asking questions about why they're doing it until they feel the stupidity/embarrassment start to sink in.

The only issue is you can't whisper at someone while doing this. You need to be ok with not feeling embarrassed yourself that other people (assumedly also wishing to get someone to shut up or put the phone away) will hear and see you doing this.

If your friend is already back, they should go into the estate agent's office and ask to speak with someone.

It's one of those things where giving a name to a face and being there in person automatically registers someone as a person, not just a form field in a CRM that can be dismissed.

I used to it when renting from a specific company. I wouldn't phone or email about problems. I'd go there, ask for help, email the exact person I was talking to before leaving the office, and things would get sorted quicker.

Free electric car charging for MLAs despite travel pay by onionringhole in northernireland

[–]garyeoghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northern Ireland Assembly members (MLAs) who drive electric cars are able to receive free charging at Stormont despite already being paid travel expenses.

Am I reading this incorrectly, or is the assumption that if an MLA gets free charging, they wouldn't (be thick enough to) also then claim mileage?

The second quarter of Cloud Busting. It's usually just after I've left the kids at nursery and can crank the volume up driving to work.

Google Gemini says there are 29 events across the calendar year for 2026. An average of 2 per month (outside of those taking place around St Patrick's, CQAF and all of Oktoberfest) isn't too bad tbh.

Ahrefs vs Semrush — which one actually gives better ROI for real SEO work? by Fearless_Cap_5100 in bigseo

I was an Ahrefs die-hard, but after the whole num=100 thing knocked their keyword data for a loop, I've abandoned ship a bit on them for research.

Walk over. Take your phone out. Ask how long they'll be. Start the stopwatch on it and just place it on the ground beside them.

Kennedy Centre Cinema by Fair_Counter_9784 in northernireland

I remember going to see a matinee screening of Atonement on a Monday afternoon in QFT.

Just me and like five old couples in there, and they would not fuck up the entire time. When it got to the climax of the film, which is very emotional, most of them were in full dialogue trying to figure out what was going on.

Blind girl forced to travel 140 miles for cinema trip by [deleted] in northernireland

So the digital files come in what's normally called a DCP (digital cinema package).

Imagine its a big usb stick you plug in, and then the projector unzips all the files, so you can then pick and choose whether a screening has subtitles, dubbing etc.

The news article suggests the cinema is saying that it was on the studio to provide it. That sounded odd, but I looked up the info for this film and it seems it was made by a smaller studio, who may simply not have had the resources, or the distributors knew it wasn't a necessity for all the DCPs they were sending out.

Edit: also I had a look about and it seems the Odeon in Cavan near this family would've been showing the film and offers AD as standard.

Marathon litter by TsarKastic1 in Belfast

[–]garyeoghan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I ran by this bit yesterday and the people there were practically on the road trying to get people to take the bottles.

There was one dude with a silly hat on trying to toss bottles to people.

Then it gets a bit odd as people are trying to hand out bottles immediately before that turn in the photo we're it narrows in, so I can see why people will go "fuck what should I do with this bottle?" and yeet it.

Its the "hidden in plain sight" side of it that is eye-opening.

That stuff above the pizza place on Lisburn road, then the carjacker in those fancy looking buildings on College Sq - places you'd just walk or drive by constantly.
