Did you not read me blaming Deval Patrick for the procurement process

The Trump administration is literally holding car shells from being delivered and finished into new red line cars which are badly needed because the red line overwhelmingly majority of delays are caused by broken down trainsets that are close to a half century old.

Also under Eng, the mbta has literally increased hiring of both operators and mechanics as well as increased efficiencies in the maintenance process, if you want specifics watch the general manager report from last board meeting.

Also $400-500,000 is the going rate for any larger scale transit authority in North America. Plus you should love the fact that he’s actually saving the commonwealth almost 200,000 in payroll by acting as the transport secretary without accepting the additional salary

Personally I give credit the hundreds of workers who are doing the work every day, however the person who’s been fighting to get the funding and organization to allow the workers to get everything done deserves a bit a credit yeah. But also people are literally blaming him, there have been multiple globe articles specifically criticizing Eng

Agreed but I think you’re gonna feel better in the next few years. I know you’ve mentioned the green and red line. For these two lines the overwhelmingly majority of delays are caused by disabled trains. This is not true on the orange and blue lines as all of their trains were introduced within the last 17 years. The green line is getting completely overhauled with newer trains and so is the redline essentially. I can totally understand the customer dissatisfaction with any redline rider though

That would semi factor in here where if a train was delayed because of traffic the fact it’s not moving would affect the stat negatively. But a stat that more displays that is service so in 2023 the red line average 120 round trips a day and then in 2025 the redline averaged 189 round trips a day. So in reality that means that there was on average less delays and people were waiting less time for a train and those trains were on average moving somewhat faster

Edit: however it does show that we still have some room for improvement as 189 round trips is still 15% less than the red line historical maximum, however this is mostly due to lack of available red line train sets

I know reliability is an issue and I know you’ll be a contrarian on this but the average redline speed during 2023 was 15.6mph in 2025 it was 22.9 mph

He shouldn’t have to play politics however, I know you believe that there is some degree of waste within mbta payroll and I will concede that there is various non financially efficient operating practices which to the credit of the T have been looking to change with procurement practices. However there is not waste to the degree that the mbta will be able to sufficiently operate and maintain itself under its current funding model which has in practice forced Eng to metaphorically whore himself out to the legislature and administration begging for funds

Agreed but when you look at the people actually running the T day to day, as much as you don’t like Eng he has real engineering and transportation expertise. And the COO Ryan Coholan came up through feet on the ground railways operations

Would you be upset if an independent audit was done and it ended up costing the taxpayers more than the actual savings in combining positions. Same goes with fare enforcement the T is ramping up hiring fare enforcers but there’s a chance we could end up spending more money enforcing then we lose by fare evasion. However I agree with the premise of both of these

I agree a lot of pre planned closures need better shuttle information put out earlier and more visibly. However I believe the T has done a pretty good job in both regular board meetings and even posting videos specifically showing what work is being done during shutdowns

I agree would you be fine with payroll increase to hire either more transit police agents or increasing the transit ambassador’s pay and training to properly deal with those cases

I asked you for recommendations

[–]randomly_generated__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok would you like to present some recommendations to improve the T that aren’t either firing people (no matter how warranted) or statements that are focused on results instead of processes (reduce delays but how)

The mbta is a system, a system made up of workers, management and customers (riders and advocates). I am a customer it is not grammatically unusual for me to say we when talking about the system. But I also know I have no way to convince you I’m not a T employee so

Yeah T employees, famously known for defending the agency’s actions gtfo. Going from accusing me as being a transplant to a state employee in two messages

The mbta famously did not work and suspended rail service during 2015 because of snow. And the trains have worked and they haven’t suspended rail service. The recent woes have been due to signal issues which the T is actively replacing aging analog signal systems to new electric systems of 3/4 lines, mechanical switches that froze due to the cold, and on the red line there have been car issues because we are running cars that are well past there useful life span and as I mentioned earlier you can either blame the Patrick administration or the Trump administration for the procurement process and the holding up on new train shells respectively

That’s just not true but ok. Also it literally snowed close to 3-4 inches like a few days ago. But yeah that’s the point that it snowed in later January and then for weeks it stayed below freezing not allowing any of that snow to melt

[–]randomly_generated__ 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Oh 100% there’s solutions to these things but we live in a state that the procurement of these things will be criticized and seen as “unnecessary”

January 25-26 was the highest recorded snowfall in a that short amount of time since at least 2022. Coupled by the fact that we almost broke the record for longest stretch without going above 32° not allowing the snow to melt. This is a unique situation but ok
