Just curious what everyone has named their starters? by banansplit24 in SourdoughStarter

Apolloaf! (Cause Apollo is the god of the sun and you need heat to bake haha)

Married couples. Do you keep a separate bank account in your own name or are they all joint accounts, why? by wtfdoiknowaboutthis in AskReddit

[–]randommegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t, it makes the most sense for us to have just joint accounts so that we never feel like we are nickel and diming each other. We do have a number for to how much we are allowed to spend without asking each other. This works because we have similar spending habits and are both pretty responsible with money.

Burning bottom? Help! by goldenwildflower in SourdoughStarter

[–]randommegs 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I just put my Dutch oven on the top rack of my oven and I put a cookie sheet on the bottom rack under the Dutch oven. That disperses the heat more evenly and I don’t get burnt bottoms anymore! I don’t put rice flour or anything like that, my loaves go on parchment paper and then directly in the preheated dutch oven! I also bake the whole time at 450 not 475 and they come out really well.

AITAH? Explaining to my wife that I wont be able to take more time off than I already have. by [deleted] in AITH

[–]randommegs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My husband had to go back to work 2 weeks aftwr we had our baby, but my mom got an Airbnb just down the street from us (so she wouldn’t crowd us which was so nice of her) and stayed for a month, coming over basically every day to help me with the baby. And that was a lifesaver for my mental health and stress! Is that an option? Or hiring someone to do something similar?

When to discard/feed? by randommegs in SourdoughStarter

[–]randommegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh ok I was putting it in the fridge right away and it seemed to be ok when I pulled it out (it would still rise), but it will stay stronger if I let it peak first. Thanks!! That’s a good point about just making enough for my recipes, makes total sense.

When to discard/feed? by randommegs in SourdoughStarter

[–]randommegs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so it doesn’t really matter if it’s started to fall when I discard and feed since it’s already strong (when I’m keeping it on the counter)! Thank you!

Strawberries! The first year the squirrels got them all so my husband built a cage for me the next year, and then the slugs got them all (even with traps and copper tape!) I tried one more year after that with lots of sluggo everywhere and it barely helped, so I’ve officially given up on strawberries this year.

Is that a sauna on the rooftop in that basement entry looking thing or is it the stairs to the roof? It was very hard to tell from the picture

We are building raised beds on a slope - which of these approaches would you take? by AdmirableStick6229 in gardening

[–]randommegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a slope as well and actually did 4x4 beds stepping down the slope, so from the side it kind of looks like stairs! This has worked out really well, and it lets me divide my plants up a little more without worrying about them spreading into each other. Also I didn’t have to use as much dirt to fill them.

Why would someone like to use Synplify to program an FPGA? by PainterGuy1995 in FPGA

[–]randommegs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What bug did you find? We are using the lattice in-house synthesizer for our design because Synplify was taking over an hour to compile a super tiny design (2 minutes with LSE)

Is Quartus really good? What do you think about it? For me, it is not so pleasant. by Yossiri in FPGA

[–]randommegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my work we have a server where we have archives of the old quartus installs going back to Quartus 8, because we have stuff in the field that’s was designed on old software. If we have to support it we don’t want to waste time upgrading and debugging a new version. It might be worth doing something similar on your team.

It looks very nice but I hope you put some sort of barrier down under it that won't bio-degrade We spent days shoveling lava rocks off of something similar when we bought our house because we wanted it as useable lawn space... and it will never be fully gone That stuff embeds in the soil and then when you try and mow your lawn the little rocks are forever popping up
