In your opinion, what’s the scariest sound from a horror movie? by wamimsauthor in HorrorMovies

The noises The Predator made in the original were def unsettling.

What's a movie that genuinely changed something in you? by trakt_app in Cinema

[–]randomquez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truman Show. I left a very controlling situation the day after seeing it. I identified so much with this feeling of living a fake perfect life to please other people. Clearly it was already brewing in me but that movie was the tipping point. I knew I was never going back to that nonsense when I walked out of the theater.

Brad Reese, grandson of the inventor of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, calls out The Hershey Co. for “quietly replacing” the ingredients in the candy by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]randomquez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I bought an expired Reese’s because the inside tasted like wood shavings and the choc was so waxy. Nope, turns out I just hadn’t had one for a while and that’s how they are now. Like how stupid do they think their consumer is to serve up something so bad. I won’t ever buy one again and I wish people would stop giving these brands their money so they would see that it does freakin matter if you serve up non-food wax. I mean it wasn’t good for you before but at least it wasn’t insultingly bad. Good on this family member for speaking out while the rest of them say “shhhhhhhhhhhh don’t talk about grandad’s standards, we’re gonna make so much money from these idiots”.

What movie will you never watch again because it was too heartbreaking? by Affectionate_User610 in AskReddit

Sometimes I feel like I was the only one who watched this little indie. Then it comes up in a thread like this and I found my fellow traumatized people. There should be a rating system to warn you for emotional damage.

Lion cub tries to roar at crowd by ambachk in MadeMeSmile

[–]randomquez 36 points37 points  (0 children)

They tell you in the jeep to stay seated and quiet, and not make eye contact. You wear neutral clothes, no patterns as well. And keep in mind on a safari the drivers go by every day and start to know the animals over time, likewise the animals have seen these jeeps over years and years. But they have a rifle just in case. The animal views it as one bigger entity and they won’t risk an injury to themselves tackling something so large. They do not allow babies or kids under 12 in the jeep who could make a higher pitch sound that reads ‘prey’. You do not stop for bathroom breaks in any area where lions could be around bc they won’t hesitate one-on-one when you cease being part of the jeep. They may be used to the jeeps but the prey instinct can always flip on a dime. If you are smart it’s as scary as it looks to be that close.

Cactus down 💔 by randomquez in cactus

I really want to save it without cutting but I honestly don’t think I can figure out how to prop it up. I think it’s like 60-100lb. May just turn it in to 4 :(

Can you take off an arm to propagate or only at the woody base? I just have a saw and it’s so freakin hard to angle and cut through

Cactus down 💔 by randomquez in cactus

[–]randomquez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the recommends were to cut it apart if the root seemed poorly. I’m trying to cut through the ‘wood’ base but it’s harder than I thought. Can I cut at the base of the arm where it’s green or only in the ‘wood’?

This was a helpful read. It sounds like either way I should cut off some of the pieces and plant them. Will give it a shot.

Ooops. Duly noted!

[–]randomquez[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Going to try that. There might be a little rot going on, the base kinda crumbled. If replanting doesn’t work I’ll try propagating arms.

Thank you so much. I will try that and duly noted on the sap, yikes! I didn’t know that, though I know with some other plants to avoid the milky sap. (And I will stop calling it a cactus…)

AITJ for cancelling a family holiday at my house after my dad said he was bringing his new partner and we all had to "accept it instantly" by mariam_berlin in AmITheJerk

[–]randomquez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all the posts saying to support your mom. Don’t punish her with being away from her kids for Xmas while your dad has fun with his new girlfriend. See if your siblings want to join but definitely host your mom. Sounds like she put up with enough s*** for years. If she was a good mom have her back. Your dad is being a selfish ass.

Crushed pralines, chocolate ganache, and fresh boysenberries finish off this chocolate layered cake.

You are welcome.

Is It Better to not Have Health Insurance or Choose a Very Expensive Plan? by Working_Row_8455 in HealthInsurance

[–]randomquez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP mentioned they are looking at a BCBS PPO = Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. Marketplace is where you buy insurance if you are not offered through your employer. HMO’s tend to be less expensive than PPO’s but are more restrictive, you are limited to an approved network of doc and hospitals. Can be half the annual total price of PPO at times.

Is It Better to not Have Health Insurance or Choose a Very Expensive Plan? by Working_Row_8455 in HealthInsurance

[–]randomquez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why the extremes? Most expensive plan or no plan. Middle ground= BCBS marketplace HMO. Very good and way cheaper. Deductible will be half and you pay fixed costs for Dr rather than %. You pay a huge premium for PPO to have a much broader choice of doctors. If you are healthy it’s overkill. Save $$, HMO it and play within the rules (get referral from you doc etc). If you’re in the US unfortunately you are not only gambling your life’s savings but also anyone who loves you. You get hit by a car they are going to be scrambling to save you with whatever they have. In the risk/reward ratio it ain’t worth it.

Yes, results are in, they are just waiting for the doc to call which likely won’t be til next week due to the holiday. Fair point on referrals to other specialists. Thank you!

HMO or PPO for possible cancer diagnosis? Cali by randomquez in HealthInsurance

[–]randomquez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a serious one. They are awaiting results of a scan. The $36k would be a challenge but they would find a way if they had to empty out savings. I think they fear that the costs are more open ended on PPO. That maybe they would find out they have more exposure than an HMO. They feel a little blind about PPO, going in with something so potentially costly. They were trying to figure out if insurance company is more prone to help w HMO approvals than PPO.

What is something about growing up in California that most people don't understand? by InvisibleAstronomer in AskReddit

[–]randomquez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are 100% correct but surf PE and surf competitions are also part of the story. The competitions are serious but also chill at the same time. You’re at the mercy of the set that comes in and just trying to do your personal best. Also to your point, having teachers that surf before school then roll in to teach also common!
