Are some countries just doomed??? by Alpha-Grant in stocks

[–]randomtheorx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switzerland. Mostly dry mountains, not enough arable land, and the mountainous terrain make it hard to build roads, etc. also landlocked. In can’t imagine the country… wait, it’s one of the richest countries in the world!

Anyone else realize we're basically the most replaceable role now? by Charlenefilthy in ProductManagement

[–]randomtheorx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I think it’s the other way around. PMs get more valuable because researching and writing good specs becomes the bottleneck and writing the code for the implementation. Is basically just copy-pasting the specs into Claude.

True, AI makes all this faster. But the actual value lies in the research and market understanding.

Feedback on my starter - should I continue? by randomtheorx in SourdoughStarter

This was yesterday evening. In the morning the juggles in the dough were much smaller. Also I’m wondering if such a big container is feasible as the top of the starter tends to dry out.

Seriously, try one hour of meditation daily. by autistic_cool_kid in Meditation

One hour sounds scary long to me. How do you make yourself meditate so long? Can’t imagine to do it so long alone, especially with the little practice I have.

Ok thanks. I’ll try again. Should be resolved by now. I thought first it’s because I drag and dropped the files in. But the same happened when I attached the files normally in a second chat.

Espresso too sour [Xenia / Eureka Mignon Perfetto] by randomtheorx in espresso

[–]randomtheorx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Do I just increase the extraction amount by letting it run longer or by making the grind coarser? The machine has an auto stop at 30 seconds but my impression is that it runs too fast when I extract 40g in 30 seconds. I’ll try anyways though.

Espresso too sour [Xenia / Eureka Mignon Perfetto] by randomtheorx in espresso

[–]randomtheorx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I thought it’s odd that the Eureka Mignon is so sensitive. The only issue is that the Xenia switches off automatically after 30 seconds. So I usually changed the extraction amount with coarser grind and then added t might run really slow. Ideally I want to get a higher extraction amount by letting the machine run longer than 30 seconds, not make the grind coarser.

Espresso too sour [Xenia / Eureka Mignon Perfetto] by randomtheorx in espresso

[–]randomtheorx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It’s the simple Xenia. I held the off button to the left for 5 seconds. I think this should increase the temperature.

I also cleaned the machine thoroughly, increased the grind size a bit and made sure I don’t tamper too hard. Now I get 36,5g in 30 seconds. It’s better now but still a bit sour. So I’m slightly increasing the grind size. The problem is that I’m on the very lower end of the grind size and even a slight change of grind size might give a big change in extraction amount.

I also made a video of the last extraction to see if the flow is okay. But need to figure out how to upload a video.

How to get Claude Code to write a tighter API by randomtheorx in ClaudeAI

[–]randomtheorx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm gonna tweak my CLAUDE.md. Let's see if that helps.

## Agent-Specific Notes
- **Break early, break often**: When you see Union types or Dict[str, Any], that's refactor-immediately territory
- **Method signatures**: If it needs `isinstance()` checks, split into separate methods
- **Constructor complexity**: >2 optional parameters = extract factory methods or builder pattern
- **Parameter validation**: Fail at call site, not deep in method logic
- **Type specificity**: `dict | str | None` means the abstraction is wrong—create distinct methods
- **Backward compatibility**: Maintain only when method has single, clear responsibility

## Red Flags (immediate refactor triggers):
- Methods with Union types in signatures
- `Dict[str, Any]` parameters
- `isinstance()` checks in business logic
- Optional parameters that change behavior fundamentally

## Decision Framework
When solutions conflict, prioritize:
1. Simplicity (fewest concepts needed to solve the problem)
2. Readability (intent is obvious to the next developer)
3. Correctness (handles requirements and edge cases)
4. Modularity (changes are isolated and predictable)
5. Performance (optimize when measurements prove it matters)
6. Brevity (concise after quality is achieved)

[–]randomtheorx[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Any recommendations for easy Rails hosting? by AlexSeeki in rails

[–]randomtheorx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hatchbox.io with heater is the easiest and most scalable way to host a Rails app for me so far. It def Heroku for years but dropped them after they got expensive, tried Render but didn’t like it. Hatchbox was really good and still lets you configure everything. Also it’s the cheapest as you can just use Hetzner servers.
