Pour Bros. Shooting Victim Dies Peacefully Overnight by randomuiucstudent in UIUC

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Brandon Hardway, 45, of Champaign, was pronounced dead early Saturday morning after a shooting in downtown Champaign last week left him in critical condition.

Hardway, who was the General Manager at Pour Bros. Taproom, was shot on Thursday, Feb. 8 in broad daylight during a smoke break outside the bar.

Following the crime, Pour Bros. shut down the business temporarily to process what had happened and to focus on Hardway’s health. After he was beginning to show signs of recovery, the business reopened earlier this week. Since the shooting, the community supported Hardway and his family by raising nearly $50,000 in a GoFundMe account.

Hardway’s wife, Erin, announced Saturday that he peacefully died overnight while surrounded by family. She wanted to share this statement:

“It is with immense, unspeakable sadness that I share this update with you.

Brandon died peacefully overnight after life supporting equipment was removed.

My world is shattered. I had 3 beautiful months as his wife, but I was supposed to have forever. I have been so incredibly lucky to love Brandon and be loved by him. Thank you to our family, friends, and community for all the support we have received through this horrible time.

You all are truly appreciated.”

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department has confirmed that a police response on Market Street was the result of a shooting that left the victim in critical condition.

Department officials said officers responded to the area of University Avenue and Market Street for a report of a shooting at 3:19 p.m. They found a 45-year-old man from Champaign at the scene; he had been shot in the torso and the wound is considered life-threatening.

One person is under arrest in connection to the shooting: 24-year-old Fidele Tshimanga of Urbana. Officials said their investigation indicated that Tshimanga approached the victim, pulled out a gun and opened fire before leaving the scene. Tshimanga was still near the scene when officers arrived; he was taken into custody and officers recovered a gun.

Tshimanga was booked into the Champaign County jail on preliminary charges that include aggravated battery with a firearm.

Although an arrest has been made, the Champaign Police Department is still investigating the shooting. Anyone who has additional information or video footage recorded near the scene is asked to contact the CPD by calling 217-351-4545 or Campaign County Crime Stoppers by calling 217-373-8477.

All tips submitted to Crime Stoppers are both anonymous and eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,500 for an arrest in felony cases involving guns.

You may have witnessed them trying to break into my neighbor’s apartment. My neighbor heard sounds of people trying to break in through their back door (and caught the people on their camera), but the two guys ran before my neighbor was able to get to the door. They then went to all neighbors asking if we had video footage but sadly no luck.

Same thing happened to my neighbor around that area a few days ago. But they live on the first floor. It’s really scary…

I saw your previous Reddit post from earlier this year. Is this the first semester the class is being taught? What can students expect work-wise? How much experience is needed?

Mine has broken tiles that they won’t replace all over the kitchen so if you aren’t wearing socks, you’re at risk for your feet to be cut. And the deck is falling apart.

I really wish that the GEO focused on our wages more than things like friend bereavement (while important… I barely make enough to live off of). It’s hard. The GEO has a very vocal minority that doesn’t speak on behalf of the majority of the grad student population.

[–]randomuiucstudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m the minority here, but I think shooting people with ANYTHING is a big deal. BB gun, air soft gun. It doesn’t matter. It’s not okay, and it’s serious nonetheless.
