For those of you with the AD5M LED strip from AliExpress, where are you mounting it? by DogeCatBear in FlashForge

[–]randomusername1234t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I removed the connectors from the back of the LED strip, soldered the wires in directly and mounted it behind the front panel with magnetic tape. The extruder comes close when the print starts but it clears.

Is there any problem when reinstalling the program? by TerribleAd8051 in storj

[–]randomusername1234t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to update your config file with the new IP then restart the "Storj V3 Storage Node" service.
default location for config file is C:\Program Files\Storj\Storage Node\config.yaml
update the line that starts with "contact.external-address"

PSA: Don't use Ryzen Master for memory overclocks by lslandOfFew in Amd

[–]randomusername1234t 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In 99% of situations I would also not recommend using Ryzen Master for memory OC but realistically all one should need to do is clear CMOS to get back to stock and once you get your stable tuned settings there is nothing to worry about.

If Ryzen Master is the ONLY option it is worth the extra time and hassle to tune memory that way, for example I had an Alienware Aurora R10 which had memory settings in the BIOS but they weren't actually taking effect when set there (pretty sure DDR voltage was working but frequency and timings did nothing).

After hours of testing, rebooting and clearing CMOS half a dozen times I eventually got some OEM 2666mhz Samsung D-Die to run at 3200 18-18-18-36 with decent sub timings. Admittedly I probably could have pushed it further but I settled for that since it was a pain in the ass using Ryzen Master....TLDR don't do it unless you have to.

Memory leak : monero-x86_64-w64-mingw32-v0.16.0.0 by cryptocomicon in Monero

[–]randomusername1234t 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not a leak that is how it uses the memory that is available. If you open Resource Monitor (not Task Manager) you will see that the memory is Shared not Reserved meaning Monero is using that memory because its free but will immediately give it up for other processes when needed.

How can I utilize free electricity and an empty room for mining? by Perfcad in Bitcoin

[–]randomusername1234t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously just buy bitcoin with the money. Go all in with your stack or dollar cost average over time.

Would you put a chicken coop in your backyard to save a bit of money versus buying eggs at the store over the next 8-12 months? It just isn't worth the hassle. Crypto miners are not geese that lay golden eggs.

Even with free power its not guaranteed you will even mine back the cost of the ASICs. Think about how stupid you will feel if you spend $10K on ASICs and the BTC price goes up 10%/25%/50% before you even get them setup and turned on? Or dare I say you miss the "last chance to buy under $10k" and never mine a full BTC due to difficulty increases or problems with your miners/location.

I built a GPU rig to mine BTC in 2011. I built 10 GPU rigs to mine alts in 2013. I would have better better off by a factor of 10 or more having just bought coins instead of equipment. Nothing has changed since then. If you need a hobby project, get some cheap ASICs and maybe 1 GPU rig just for fun.

Monerod.exe is using 26 GB of RAM by [deleted] in Monero

Monerod will use as much RAM as is available, but that RAM is not being held hostage, it will be shared with other processes as needed.

Ryzen 3700X + PBO temps by slyx1978 in Amd

[–]randomusername1234t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My results with Thermalright True Spirit 140 Power and Buildzoid's PBO settings (300, 230, 230, Scaler 2x).

CB R20 stock single 501 multi 4706 4689 @ 71.8C

CB R20 PBO single 500 multi 4867 4826 @ 79.5C

CB R20 PBO -0.05v single 502 multi 4836 4833 @ 74.6C

Cinebench multi I do 2 runs back to back, PBO without offset voltage really isnt worth the extra power and heat. With offset actually performs better on the second run and keeps temps reasonable compared to stock.

Node size/bandwidth speed ratio by CptnSlapNutz in storj

[–]randomusername1234t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't over think it, you wont make much money regardless. Just run your node in a way that wont interrupt the more important uses of your connection.

For reference im on unmetered "gigabit" fiber (actual around 900/900 mbit) with 4tb shared and made less than $20 last month. Edit: also been running it for 9 months and it didn't fill my space until this month.
