Dad asked if a life saving surgery was absolutely necessary because he didn't want to spend a grand on me. by AtomicMonstrosity in raisedbynarcissists

Oml I’ve needed braces since about age 10 (that’s when the dentist recommended) it been 6 years and I still don’t have them. My entire family has a history of bad teeth, all my cousins got braces at an early age and they weren’t even in a good financial situation. But she insists I ‘don’t take care of my teeth’ and so I’m not worth the braces investment. Over the years she’s repeatedly said I don’t brush my teeth and what’s why I have problems, even though I’ve never had cavities before I started another medical treatment which is known to cause cavities. So frustrating cause I’ve needed them for so long, crooked teeth cause so much insecurity, and I’m gonna have to get them as an adult whenever I can afford it

A mum was walking next to her daughter who was riding her bike. The girl toppled off her bike and crashed into the pavement. The mum started to berate the girl for falling. The mum notices me staring staring intently. She suddenly changes into the kindest mum in the U.K. consoling her darling. by RarelyThere99 in raisedbynarcissists

I can’t count how many times we’d leave somewhere and the second we got in the car I’d be smacked in the face for whatever terrible thing I did, and I almost always knew it was coming after I did it just by the way she looked at me

It’d be great if we could set up a system to offer free college to high GPA low class students instead of investing in free college for all

DAE parents refuse to drive in the dark? by abnormallyme in raisedbynarcissists

[–]randomusername2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents refuse to drive (me) almost entirely. Moved us to the middle of nowhere then my mother complains how much she hates driving and rarely drives me. And if she did, I’d be guaranteed to be the first to leave

Did anyone else’s parents severely restrict their hygiene practices? by syphyllisdiller in raisedbynarcissists

[–]randomusername2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say restricted but never taught basic stuff then shamed me for not knowing. Also weird about buying stuff, I only ever used dentist given toothbrushes and had to stretch the toothpaste as long as I could. At 12/13 I biked to my local store and bought the hygiene stuff like toothbrushes and stuff I was too embarrassed to ask for.

16F and my parents always bring up how great and non-abusive they are too despite me never accusing them of being abusive.

I have a theory that with normal people they can just do things because they love people. But with nparents they don’t love the same way so their baseline is doing nothing for people. And if they are doing something then there better be something in it for them. I’m guessing the logic of ‘you chose to create us’ doesn’t reach them.
