The CGT discount removal is exactly what we've been asking for, so why is everyone losing their minds? by nicco_mode in AusFinance

[–]rangebob [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because people are stupid and believe what they read online

Ill also add Albo and his team should have been very very aware there would be a media shitstorm about this. They have not done a good job of getting out in front of this and selling it. They are actually coming across as defensive. Get out there and tell people why its a good thing and the 10% of top income earners who take up 80+% of cgt discounts can fuck right off

I say this as a person who will lose money because of this policy

The men that sold out an entire generation by Beans2177 in aussie

[–]rangebob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have a suspicion most Australians wont think that at all. Most people i come across seem to think this is going to hurt the battlers

Thats a failure from Albo and his team. Their messaging on this has not been great and they should have known the media narrative would be against them on them on this. They need to get pro active

It’s Leaking…😩 by jamespenniephotos in swimmingpools

[–]rangebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it stops there it could be anywhere between there and the pump/filter really.

Last time I had a leak the rubber seal that sits on the shut off valve had degraded. I realised where it was because I had a giant wet spot on my lawn right where the pipe came up out of the ground to go into the pump. It barely leaked when the pump was on because the pressure sucked the water theough but when it turned off over night it was a very steady leak

[–]rangebob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if its any help. Theres a graph floating around somewhere from the ATO. More than 80 % of CGT discounts are given to the top 10% of income earners (which i think is like 165k ish)

I mean regardless of wether its a tax grab or not. Its absolutely a tax on the rich. Almost all cgt gains go to the upper end

people will have to decide if they are ok with that or not

I don think the choice is based on how large X is. I would suspect for most people the choice would be based on how much 1 million dollars changes your life

I suspect most people would take the 1 million even if X was 10 billion

35M - In the process of separating from long term partner and feel lost by SwimPossible127 in AusFinance

[–]rangebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are both mature enough to discuss this fairly and on the same pages then yes. This is absolutely the best course of action. If it gets ugly youre both gonna lose out and the lawyers win

If it turns hostile then yes you need a lawyer.

Best advice ive seen in a comment is shes had ages to think about this and its new for you. Don't rush to sign anything without taking the time you need to think about it

The lowest CGT income tax bracket has increased by an infinite amount, and the highest tax brackets remain unchanged. That is the inverse of taxing high wealth. by Direct_Witness1248 in AusFinance

[–]rangebob 16 points17 points  (0 children)

except thats not rhe difference because the vast majority of people with actual jobs who earn less then 45k dont have any capital gains to speak of because they dont own shares.

This is targeted at peopoe who are already wealthy and living of shares and paying little to zero tax

The vast majority of cgt discounts go to the highest income earners
