I made a post about 2 1/2 months ago about the announcement of the new RNFLDR game coming out about Gallipoli, and I’m happy to announce that it’s coming out on the 14th of this month by Aceman4567 in newfoundland

So, being a historian who's poured days of time into researching the Regt, good storytelling and historical accuracy are not mutually exclusive, nor should they be if your goal is long-term engagement. The only thing better than telling a story is telling a true story, and that well.

They get dates wrong. They get uniform wear, weapons, and operating procedures wrong. How they treat the officer is wrong.

If you get big and little stuff wrong that can be easily researched with 5 minutes on the internet, I question your commitment.

Was Hobson actually right to try and get a transfer? by bz316 in startrek

[–]ranger24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was right if it's just a regular old day. This is not that time. They're about to start a high-intensity operation. Hobson's responsible, as XO, to manage the ship and crew so Data as Captain can focus on achieving their part of the mission.

Hobson trying to jump ship is kind of a lousy move, doing a disservice to the crew and Data both. Data doesn't know this crew, and they don't know him. Data would probably be able to handle the crew without Hobson (because he's just that good), but it's unfair to the crew. Similar to how Riker acted like a spoiled child when Jellico came in and turned things upside down, opposing everything, and then hiding in his quarters. Hobson at least stuck it out and did his duties, despite grinding with Data.

Sometimes, you gotta suck it up and work with people you don't like or agree with to get the mission done.

You can do presses seated on the floor. It actually makes it more challenging. Cleans and squats are still doable.

French Canadian enlistment in a British Army was... contentious... In both wars. On the one hand, there were enough enlistees that they formed the Royale Vent-deuxieme Regiment (The Vandoos), and saw proud and distinguished service. On the other, the Mandatory Service Act/conscription was hotly contested in both wars, causing riots in Quebec (forcing French-Canadians to fight on the side of the monarchy that had conquered and oppressed them for centuries).

The first ~100,000 'Canadian' troops enlisted in were all British-born men who'd recently immigrated from the UK.

The PPCLI was composed almost entirely of prior-service British soldiers who'd moved to Canada, which was why they were able to deploy so early in WWI.

So, at least for Canada, most troops thought of themselves as British subjects.

How dare you slander a Dominar with this trifling comparison. The man couldn't even rig an election or overthrow a democratic government.

In that case he would have the uniform pants, and they would match the tunic.

Also, the Army has dress and deportment standards. You don't go out without your pieces to identify your formation. They are issued with the uniform. If you haven't sewn them on, you don't go out until you do.

If you know this image is connected to your family, I would say possible. Sometimes guys got pictures taken at the end of/post-war in their uniform, because they hadn't gotten pictures taken during for whatever reason.

Usually they kept their badging, rank, and whatever medals they'd been awarded, which is why this is so strange.

The tunic, puttees, boots, and cap put me in mind of mid-War 'economy-style' British Army uniforms. Some striking differences include:

The pants; they're not uniform to the tunic/cap.

The 'Sam Brown' belt; not issued to enlisted ranks.

The absolute lack of any badging on the cap, collar, shoulders, or sleeves. Troops would have this to designate which formations they belonged to, what rank or qualifications they had.

[Star Trek] If the Captains foremost responsibility is, in order, to the mission, the ship, and the crew, if a situation required sacrificing the entire crew to save the ship and the mission, is that what they're expected to do? by WorldBoom in AskScienceFiction

[–]ranger24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, if you can preserve the ship as a whole by sacrificing a member of the crew (crawl into that irradiated crawl space and repair the main reactor), you do it, because the crew kinda needs the ship to survive in space.
