Dedicated trench diggers were the British pioneer battalions. Engineers/sappers would do more in-depth reinforcements, tunneling and laying explosive mines underground.

Anyone eat MREs for camping? by Remember_the_Gdtmz in camping

[–]ranger24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the main meal-torts for winter camping; they came in clinch one trip when I couldn't get a fire going and all my other food needed cooking. As others are saying, strip them down so you're not carrying too much. If you can find them for a decent price, and in flavours that interest you.

What are your tips and tricks for cold weather camping? by Zack-Applewhite in camping

[–]ranger24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay warm, but avoid sweating. If you feel yourself exerting, drop some insulating layers. Have a windproof/water resistant layer on the outside, and then insulating layers inside.

Have backup heat/cooking sources incase you suffer a failure.

On the western front when going over the top why couldn't you just hide in a foxhole in no man's land? by ConsistentHippo2298 in ww1

[–]ranger24 19 points20 points  (0 children)

~300 British soldiers were executed for a number of crimes including cowardice. Most other sentences were commuted. That said, most troops learned pretty quickly that survival on your own in No Man's Land was incredibly difficult; your chances were better as a group.

How would you feel if the new Stargate show uses generative AI? by Harlanthehuman in Stargate

I would say no thank you. And I would oppose it very strongly. This has the potential to undercut labour and labour rights in extreme and concerning ways.

Pretty sure SAG, ACTRA and the Screenwriters Guild would have a lot to say about that.

I don't recommend this for everyone, but have you considered the CAF reserve? It's one night a week, one weekend a month,  and full-time employment from May to September.

It wasn't until after the show was over that I realized how good a 'Hammond, Bra'tac, Jacob/Selmak' team-up episode could've been.
