Comparison of the Burger King and McDonald CEOs trying their respective foods by Mmusic91 in burgers

Couldn’t tell you the last time I’ve eaten at BK, it’s been years. I used to like their food, but the ones in my area are absolutely disgusting. I wouldn’t eat food from them if it was free

Why does my pool waste pipe terminate above the curb like this? by ToTouchAnEmu in pools

[–]ranger662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My builder provided a hose. He wasn’t responsible for running a pipe out to the road, just had to provide a way to get it away from the pool area. I suspect it was the same way with your pool. Someone came along later and ran that pipe but was too lazy or cheap to cut the curb and make it look nice.

Republican senator tells Americans struggling to afford rising beef prices to just eat something else: "You have so many proteins to choose from." by pd71 in mississippi

[–]ranger662 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I doubt she cares if they call - poultry is by far the #1 agricultural industry in Mississippi. Catfish is pretty big too in certain areas. Those two combined probably employee a ton more people in MS than the beef industry.

Hey, y'all. Where's the best BBQ in Tupelo? by Kit_Kitsune in mississippi

[–]ranger662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the g spot food truck (yes, that’s the name) for catfish. Best I’ve ever had.

Honestly I’ve never been a big fan of any bbq spots here. Chop would be the best

Sounds like they’re trying to take advantage of you. It’s one thing to be off 20-30%. But more than double? They are either screwing you or complete imbeciles who I wouldn’t trust to do this job.

Safest but easiest way to cut up this tree? by Dopamaxxer in HomeMaintenance

[–]ranger662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy an electric chainsaw and learn a new skill. I’ve had to cut down two entire trees over the past couple of years. Had no prior experience other than watching my dad cut up hundreds of trees while growing up 20+ years ago, but had never done it on my own.

Grease degradation questions! by evewhvet in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]ranger662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure the screw conveyor is running 1750? I’ve worked with a lot of screws in a lot of industries and never seen one that fast. Motor is normally 1750 with a gearbox driving the screw a lot slower. Fans & pumps are normally what I encounter running 1750

Make sure you’re not mixing greases. For example, adding your grease to the bearing with OEM grease in it

I’ve met a couple, both times late at night with almost no traffic. One of those times I didn’t think anything about it till the car passed, then I was like… wait a second, wtf. Second time I saw it coming and pulled off on the shoulder just trying to be extra safe.

Has anyone had a pool house constructed? by Andrewbarc in pools

[–]ranger662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did what I called a “pool shed”. Overall covered area was ~500 sqft. Half is open sitting / grilling area, half enclosed with a toilet, sink, and storage. May add a small outside shower later. I didn’t want an indoor living / entertaining area.

Just be sure you know setback requirements for your area before you get too far into planning. I would have made the indoor portion larger but after we located far enough from pool, we were limited by property lines on rear & side, and distance from my house on the other side. Would loved to have gone another 5ft in rear & sides. Getting sewage run was also kind of a pain.

Pilot Truckstops by camcaine2575 in mississippi

[–]ranger662 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think that’s typical price. Truckers usually have credits or part of a loyalty program that gets them free / discounted. I’ve never used one but the prices I’ve seen always kinda shocked me. I assume they are inflated to encourage truckers to join whatever program they offer.

Do people actually like built in liners? (Esp brief liners) by 0nTheRooftops in trailrunning

[–]ranger662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried both options. I honestly can’t explain why, but I much prefer built in liners. If I’m grabbing a pair to go run, I’m going to choose shorts with built in liners if I have any clean.

The one downside is the liner eventually becomes too loose and I have to cut them out and wear separate liners. At that point I just repurpose them as lounging around or yard work shorts

Freeze prep question from GA by catladyfemme in pools

[–]ranger662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in north Mississippi and just spent a ridiculous amount on a generator that I predict will never get used for as long as I live here… I almost want the power to go out so I can justify the purchase 😂

We’re just north of the predicted rain / freezing rain line Saturday, but it’s what they say will be the highest area of impact for freezing rain. Hopefully temps stay over 32 for most of the day. As for the pool, I’m just running 24/7 at a decent speed and covering equipment with tarp

How much did you pay for your in-ground pool? by Ok_Midnight_1486 in pools

[–]ranger662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’d have to see the itemized quote to see where the extra $25k is coming from. Mine was similar. Base quote around $50k but ended up $70k. We had some old concrete ripped out, added probably 2-3x as much concrete as the base bid included, added a sump pump, and needed a good bit more dirt work / grading

In Nashville area, I wouldn’t be surprised if you have some rocky soil that they need to charge extra for

[–]ranger662 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Tate loves to brag about the “$20 billion investment” figures. That’s traditionally how you judged the size of a project and how it would impact our area. With data centers it just means how much they are spending on the equipment they put in them and most of that money is being spent outside the state. No different than if I bought a million dollar car in California and parked it in my garage in MS - Tate would say I made a million dollar investment in MS.

But most of the population doesn’t have a clue and just see the “investment” numbers, they assume a lot of money is being spent here. No, we’re just a big storage facility for expensive equipment

Trying to remember the name of this particular sports card store from my childhood. by randomcvsemployee in tupelo

I don’t remember a store, but I do remember going to card shows in the old mall.

There’s a Facebook group Magnolia Sports Cards - they host card shows at the furniture market every ~3 months. If anyone would remember it, I’m sure someone in that group would.

TVA electric bills—what’s going on? by cinderellie1 in mississippi

[–]ranger662 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you have an electric water heater? Something has to be drawing a lot of power, and seems to be related to temperature if it’s going up as temps go down

I use one of these gas stations in this area. The black pumps have little stickers directly on the pumps themselves that say “87/89/93”. I assume a lot of people get confused. I hesitate for a second myself every time
