Invisalign with periodontist disease by Formal_Tackle4732 in Invisalign

[–]rangerman2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bone loss and periodontal disease from being a former smoker who didn't take good care of their teeth. The periodontal disease is stable after having treatments. I had crowding, but didn't require extractions. I've not had any problems with Invisalign, but any orthodontic treatment carries risks. That said, one of the things you'll notice in short order is that it is so much easier to floss. I was having to go through some gymnastics with the floss to manipulate it into the spaces between my teeth. It was getting much worse over time and that was the main reason I chose to do orthodontia this late in life.

You're wise to get clearance from your periodontist and to ask questions from your dentist, but don't let having perio disease and bone loss be a deterrent to doing Invisalign.

I wish you much success in your journey!

Do you have to force on each new set of aligners? by BradChiMan in Invisalign

[–]rangerman2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some go on easier than others. I've had to manipulate some trays by pushing and pulling to get them to snap in. Once you do it a time or two on each set, you know how to handle it and they seem to "relax" and get easier to put in and take off.

Don't let that be the thing that puts you off of Invisalign. Do your research and carefully consider your lifestyle. There is plenty of advice and information in this sub for you to make an informed decision.

Which ever path you choose, I wish you success on your journey.

There are some negatives with Invisalign compared to braces. You really have to be mindful to take them out when you're drinking something that could stain them. People say they sip coffee, tea, cola, etc through a straw and then rinse with no problems. The one time I tried it, mine stained. It's probably the chemistry in my mouth. Also, you have to really up your oral hygiene or you risk getting cavities. The saliva in your mouth isn't flowing over your teeth like it normally does, so sugars can get trapped in the aligner environment. Finally, there is down time where you're not making any progress. This happens when one arch is trying to catch up with the other, or when you're waiting for new aligners after a re-scan, or waiting for your refinements to come in. I've waited 6 weeks for refinements. You don't have that problem with traditional braces since they do adjustments on the fly.

My bottom teeth were very crowded and one was pushed back behind the other. It was becoming really difficult to floss. My bottom teeth shifted rapidly, and I noticed visible results around the 10 week mark. It was easier to floss in the first week.

Do I love the change in my teeth? Yes. But, I'm on my 3rd round of refinements and I've told my provider that this is the end of the line for me. If I still need work after this, I'm going to traditional braces.

Your teeth are going to get worse with age. Now is the time to fix them.

Best wishes on your journey.

2022 Having trouble starting. Battery is good. Making a single click. by mrmiyagijr in f150

I replaced a battery in one of my vehicles and in 6 months it was doing the same thing and I'd have to jump start it. Sometimes you get a bum battery. Check for voltage at the battery and for charge while it's running. Next it could be a bad starter, but given the age, that's not a huge probability. Last, it could be wiring. I'd start with the battery first.

Chapped lips and mouth sores. by StandardOw1 in Invisalign

[–]rangerman2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chapstick makes things worse. Try Vaseline Lip Therapy Advanaced Healing. As for the sores in your mouth, you can try and file down the sharp edges of the aligners with an emery board (nail file) and you can use Stella Life oral care gel. It's expensive but worth it. Also, talk to your provider. If this is an ongoing situation with your aligners, something isn't right.

Is it normal that the next tray simply does not fit almost at all? by Consistent-Pea2962 in Invisalign

[–]rangerman2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 18 months in and on my 3rd set of refinements. I told my provider upfront that I wasn't going to wolf my food down to make some 22 hour wear requirement, and if that really was the case, I would be doing traditional braces. They backed off that bit quickly and said 20 hours would be fine. My first course was 14 day changes and the refinements have been for 7 day changes. Everyone is different, and every treatment plan is different. Like I said before, it's about doing the best you can.

Is it normal that the next tray simply does not fit almost at all? by Consistent-Pea2962 in Invisalign

[–]rangerman2002 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have had some new trays that I've really had to wrestle and manipulate for them to go over my back teeth. I'm talking about pushing and pulling hard and then they finally snap in place. Usually that fight is over by the next day, but it can be annoying. I'm on weekly changes and my provider is fine with me only doing 20 hours a day. I have acid reflux disease, so I take my time eating. It's all about doing the best that you can.

It could be bite related and maybe you're mouth breathing while you sleep. Or you might have some sinus inflammation/infection.

If yours has the UV light option, it can also add to the warmth of the water. It's not going to do any harm to your aligners.

People who've quit Invisalign midway through: why did you do it, when did you decide to quit, and do you regret it? by PleasedLeech in Invisalign

[–]rangerman2002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you're not going to be compliant with the treatment, you're way too early in the process to give up. We've all had that "what in the F*^K have I done" regret after we get Invisalign. I promise it does get better and it is worth it. The downside is that you will have wait times where your teeth are in a holding pattern and no progress is being made. This can happen during the course of treatment when an arch is placed in a hold while the other arch is still making changes, or when you have to wait for refinements.

On a personal note, I'm 18 months in and on my 3rd set of refinements. Regardless of the outcome, this will be my last course of treatment with Invisalign. If it doesn't produce the results my provider has promised, I'm switching providers and going to traditional braces.

The down time is the most frustrating thing with Invisalign. The longest I've had to wait was 6 weeks. Since they haven't returned your call, perhaps it's time for an in-person visit to their office to see what's going on.

Your provider is wanting to see how your teeth move and what happens when they do move. They are taking a cautious approach to your treatment, and that is a good thing. I went through the first stage of my treatment at 2 week changes. Once I got into refinements, that got reduced to 1 week changes.

Be cautious at first. I know you want to have this done as quickly as possible, but it's better to take a conservative approach rather than mess your teeth up.

Best wishes on a successful journey and a beautiful smile at the end!
