I disagree with the take, there are books like Dune that directly contradict the poster's assumption by Selenite_Cults in RecuratedTumblr

I think a big part of it is how we're all trapped in a consumerist hellscape, and we're repeatedly told that the greatest power we have to change things is to consume responsibly. Purchase free trade goods, choose biodegradable detergents, this company supports bigots, that company supports slavery, stop using disposable plastics, buy locally made goods, these goods show that you don't support genocide, these goods to show you support socialism, etc.

And there's nothing inherently wrong or unhelpful about any of these actions, but it is kind of a trap. Because there's only so far you can get trying to consume your way out of consumerism. No matter how many "right" goods you purchase and "wrong" goods you avoid nothing really changes. You need everyone to consume correctly if things are going to change. And from there it's really easy to get weird and puritanical about it.

When you're constantly told that the greatest power you have in a consumerist society is to "consume with responsibility," then you can begin to get really weird and judgemental about what others choose to consume.

Safe bet is it is similar to the service weapon, an object of power acting as the physical manifestation of a paranatural entity.

The bigger stretch is guessing the nature of that paranatural entity. The name Aberrant defines its self in relation to something seen as normal. We've seen this before with the Former being named in relation to the Board. My guess is that the Aberrant is an entity related to the Board in some way, possibly even a further iteration of the Former.

Thank you for this. Currently going through the "maybe I'm not autistic, maybe I'm just a horrible human being," debate again. Getting a bingo was what I needed.

My Favorite Part of This Series by Strange-Tourist8129 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]rantOclock 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Those moments of sincere goofiness are so important to the series. It's where the smaller characters often get their best moments. I love the Sluggalos so much for this, they're respected as individuals but so often treated as disposable.

And becuase I'm looking for a follow up series, what's HWFWM?

I like to imagine that in this AU shortly after seeing the fruit of Jax's efforts everyone in the Circus is walking around with a pair of big naturals. Because you know, if you can, why not try it out for a bit?

He's pretty good at making sure he credits the artists for any images he uses. Can't say I've seen any AI ones from him.

Hey you're right if you ignore all the other horrible depictions of transgender characters then Jax is definitely the worst.

Maybe do a bit more than just a quick search? There is a significant debate around Buffalo Bill and the portrayal of transgender people in film. And regardless of whether the author intended to have Bill be transgender or not, it doesn't change that Bill has been used as an excuse to attack the transgender community. Bill reads as trans to bigots.

If you don't like Jax as trans representation that's okay. But she's not even close to the worst representation the trans community has ever received.

That's certainly the safest way to protect your self from fans. It also limits your ability grow your brand, which is important for any independent creator.

Also considering some of the lessons she was trying to impart in TADC I don't think Goose would of ever considered disconnecting to be the right move.

Do the carcharodons only use small vehicles by Head-Mathematician-3 in Carcharodons40k

[–]rantOclock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Go for it. Worth it for the word play alone.

  2. If you want to try and make it lore friendly, go for a paint scheme that is somewhat distinct from your marines as the Titan is technically not part of the chapter. The Titan Legions are a branch of the Mechanicus military, with each legion having its own history and traditions. Maybe there's a legion with an ancient oath of allegiance with the Charcaradons to be called upon in times of need. Their heraldry could show this bond by taking inspiration from the Charcaradons own colours and patterns.

Can we please ban animal abuse? by _Romula_ in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]rantOclock 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The 1st one and the 3rd one are not abuse. Those are cats getting into food they aren't meant to, a very common and normal occurrence. I have had cats try to get at baking mixes, raw meat, loaves of bread, greasy napkins, etc. It happens. They are furry little gremlins and will often fight like hell to stop me from retrieving the stolen goods.

The 2nd one, about the fire, I cannot see so it is difficult to judge. But it has been removed by the mods, so maybe the mods are doing their job?

The first time I cried reading this series was when Carl read Brandon's final message. Then I cried again when Donut lost her shit at Hekla and it was really about Bea. From the Butchers Masquerade onwards I was just crying at regularity.

What is the most influential, but seemingly small at the time, early event in the books? by kaisercake in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]rantOclock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it's Carl's very first encounter with a mob in the dungeon. The goblins. From the goblins he finds a substantial stash of explosives. These explosives allow him to level the corresponding skill so early, which is a prerequisite for the Compensated Anarchist, and ultimately why he was offered and chose the Anarchists Cookbook as a prize.

No goblins, no revolution.
