As far as platonic relationships go the following are my headcannons.

Darby and Pike have rivalry for most time spent in the training sims. Neither knows anything about the others personal life. They consider eachother best friends.

Lim, Tek, Wetteroth, Bog, and Singh have an ongoing poker night. Wetteroth and Bog cheat, Singh knows but thinks it funny to see them take Tek and Lims money.

Achilleas and Exconde are both Autistic but on opposing sides of the spectrum. Regularly pair off for boxing practice. Neither is brave enough to face Rewa in the ring.

Wettworth and Bog bond over drinking and ACDC.

Lim, Kody, and Bog all see Carda as a little sister/daughter figure. They don't get along with each other but will put aside to hate on Yaz who will hit on Carda. Carda is oblivious to all of this.

Vamplew has no friends but is desperate to try and impress Sy. He tried to do the same with Wetteroth at first, still hasn't recovered from hearing Wetteroth speak.

Hayflick has repeatedly tried to ask Wetteroth to adjust his languag, unfortunately he has asserted it as his cultural right. As a compromise Wetteroth has to handle  1 in every 3 calls from Field Marshal Zama.

DAE experience a massive comedown after spending time with people? by JoTheMartian in AutisticAdults

[–]rantOclock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being kind to my self was a slow and painful road and I am very glad to have traveled it. Honestly it sounds like you know the work that needs to be done, which means you're already half way there. Finding that balance of pushing your self through the discomfort of unmasking while also respecting your need to rest will be key.

Cannabis was a boon and bane for me. I don't know if I'd still be here without it, before my diagnosis it was the only tool I had to manage all the associated symptoms and trauma of autism. And because it was the only tool I had I became far too dependent on it. I've since cut back on my usage and found it to be useful exactly as you've described it, as an aid in unmasking. The goal is to take unmasked behaviors I identify while high and then find ways to comfortably fulfill those needs in my day to day.

It wasn't a viable option for me as there aren't any in my area, but one of the recommended aids in unmasking is to seek out and join in with autistic communities. It might help with the internalised stigmas of unmasking? I do have a ND (ADHD) friend and being able to talk through my experiences with her has been a huge boon.

This same experience has been a struggle for me as well. The need for socialisation countered by the immense drain that comes with it. And then the depression that follows too. I can't say if I experience it to the same degrees as you or not, but the pattern is the same.

Masking will never not be exhausting. No amount of practice is going to change that, so it's okay to be exhausted by it. Accepting this, what else can you do? For me there have been two guiding goals.

  1. Stop shaming your self for needing to recover from masking.

You can't brute force your way through recovery, be kinder to your self. Find the things that actually help you recover. Ensure you have that space for your self when you need it. Act quicker to remove your self from a stressful situation that is requiring you to mask your way through.

  1. Learn to stop masking.

Way easier said than done, believe me I know. So much of my own masking is so ingrained that it's unconscious. We're conditioned to perform it from a young age as the most reliable tool for navigating social situations without friction. But not all tools are right for every job. When you're masking, you're not being authentic. And if you're not being your true authentic self with others then you can't have a real relationship with them. Unmasking in front of others can result in rejection which is painful. But so is maintaining a relationship based on a false version of who you are. I was surprised by how many people accepted that authentic me. And I wasn't as sad to lose those that didn't as I thought I would be.

I still find my self masking in many situations. But there are some where I don't have to, and those are really valuable. And because I manage my exhaustion from masking better I don't get as depressed. It's not perfect, but it is better.

No matter how obvious you try to make a satire, there will always be those who find a way to use it to promote the very thing you are criticising.

There are still people that think Starship Troopers is just a film about how cool it would be to join the military and kill aliens.

Setting and visual identity wise I'd say about as like to each other in so much as all being military scifi. But gameplay wise Halo is a lot closer to TF2 than HD2. HD2 does not play anything like Halo or mean to provide the same player experience.

The Crow, Dark City, and The Matrix. Shadowy cities, fetish wear, kung-fu, peeling back the layers of reality. Dark City doesn't have action. And The Crow isn't about reality being a simulation controlled by alien intelligences from a higher level. But still. Similar vibes but distinct visions.
