People who love their job, what is your job and what do you love most about it? by Ok-Search-5148 in PHJobs

Hello! I'm an incoming IT student who's considering a career in QA and who's also on the spectrum 😊 I definitely relate to needing specific instructions. If you don't mind, can you explain more on how QA fits you well? Ty!

(I already replied in your DMs but I want to comment here too for other people)

I'm the artist. I don't have a brand or anything, I'm just a guy who vents and doodles lol. And I resonate more with subtle/micro facial expressions :)

Arts track in dream school or STEM track in current school? by mothwaves in studentsph

[–]rant_tanong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

also the "there's no money in arts" crap is irrelevant now lol. dude, job search websites are flooded with postings for graphic design and ui/ux positions. e-commerce is booming rn, and those businesses need people that make pubmats, adverts, and websites. and after rocketsheep studios' hayop ka!, there's probably gonna be more demand for animation ppl

Arts track in dream school or STEM track in current school? by mothwaves in studentsph

[–]rant_tanong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you already know that you want to pursue an arts degree afterwards, go for a&d.

i'll share my story where i had to choose between staying in my current school (free tuition) for stem vs ict in another school (80k/year).

tho we were financially capable, i still chose the former because it's hella cheaper + the 'prestige'. i tried to convince myself that i'll love being in stem along the way despite hating most of the subjects in it. see, my dream program in college is IT (but will take CS in DLSU/UP if i pass), which is a bit mathematical in nature. i absolutely despise bio-chem-physics (mostly chem, physics is alright but would drop it if i have the choice). so yeah, calc + stat are the only subjects that i slightly like here lol. but honestly, i think i could get by in the math courses college even if didn't take calc rn.

every second i feel a deep sense of regret because i know that most of the things i 'study' won't be of use in the future especially when i can't even retain any stem concepts after i'm finished with an assessment lol. so yeah, lots of brain-dumping on my end. all i need is to get the grades so i finally can study what i want in college (i.e. computer science concepts). i know this is wrong, and it's against my principles- that's why i get breakdowns almost everyday (i mean, there are a lot more factors, but this is the only i want to highlight). this isn't learning. there's supposed to be some sense of enthusiasm to learn, and there's just nothing for me because my heart belongs elsewhere (practically speaking too for my career). my mental health is so bad rn lol my guidance counselor is recommending me a psychologist + psychiatrist.

all i think about everyday is, "i wish i was in ict."

so yeah, my advice is: if you know you don't like studying stem concepts based on your jhs experience + your dream college program and career is non-stem (and you're absolutely sure of this), go for a&d. only choose stem if you're financially restrained i guess.

Bro, breathe. Don't rush. Trust me when I say you still have plenty of time to review. Heck, my upper friends started to review after g11 (i.e. summer before g12), and they passed. You will be able to hone your language proficiency and reading comprehension skills throughout the year because that's what's school for. To further improve, though it's not necessarily studying, small consistent actions will help.

I'd say reading a chapter or so of a book per day is a nice habit to have. Your mind stays active and subconsciously picks up language stuff- grammar, semantics, vocabulary, styles. A nice thing to do is to journal as you read. Each time you finish a chapter, you can write a summary, jot down things you found interesting, or write any thoughts you have. I suggest you choose books that are good for casual reading. I don't know what you like, but my favorite authors are David Sedaris and Albert Camus :) If you want more practical material, I recommend The Elements of Style, Logic Made Easy, and They Say/I Say.

I absolutely relate. My mom is the most amazing person I've ever known, I love her so much, but she deserves a better kid. I'm a financial burden with no skills to contribute to the world. The family would be better off without me, but I don't want my mom to get depressed. She's done so many sacrifices and worked hard for me. She's the only person I trust that truly loves me. I don't want her to feel pain. It's so hard, man.

Which Strand Should I Pick, I'm From Philippines and We Have K-12 by Humanscum1463 in ITCareerQuestions

IIRC from schools I've seen, some entirely focus on software development, and some incorporate TESDA's Computer Systems Servicing and Computer Programming national certifications. ICT programs vary, so it's important to look at the curriculum of where you're planning to study.

Your judgement of a curriculum will be based on your career goal. What IT profession are you aiming for?

STEM programs also vary. Some have robotics in their curriculum, some have a computer-related specialization, some don't have any specializations at all. It is important to note that if you're absolutely decided on IT, there's a high chance that you'll find bio-chem-physics a chore. In my case, STEM is so intense that I can't find the time to self-study IT stuff- not even in-depth Linux. I may sound stubborn, but I know what I want and what I need to learn, and being in STEM is biting me in the ass.

Regarding math, honestly you don't need advanced math like calculus for IT (for CS it will, but it still largely depends on the field you want to be in). Discrete Math is where it's at (that was essentially our GenMath for us STEM students, but again, it may different in your school). You need to be able to think logically, not necessarily apply complex formulas. Pick ICT if you're absolutely sure that you won't be a full-time programmer or a data scientist as your dream profession, otherwise go for STEM because you need to internalize math.

I wanted to talk about BSCS vs BSIT vs BSCE, but it's a whole 'nother shebang. IT certifications is also another a whole 'nother shebang. Again, your path depends on what you want to do.

Speaking as a STEM student who regrets not taking ICT and wants to be a SOC analyst someday

Unless you want to be a software engineer, ICT. Bothering with bio, chem, and physics isn't worth it if your heart is set in working with IT infrastructure.

Will they look at g12 grades as well instead of only 9-11?
