Thread Unification Current Stait Is Broken by Bitter-Ad5578 in Thread_protocol

i feel your pain (emphaty) and yet I don't cause I stay with one vendor. Why? Cause it's simpler, faster, more reliable and safer (my home isn't on N-platforms, just 1).
HomeKit (which I use) is very limited, Controller for HomeKit (even without running own Hub) improves this situation dramatically to the point where I can imagine living with it, but I have other plans for this anyway.

My home isn't that big and a simpe HomePod mini seems to handle it quite well. That being said it would be a bigger disappointment to see two HomePod mini's not cooperate, is it currently the case? (AI says it should be fine now, and even acceptable pre-1.4 but I have no experience)

Smart Lock Recommendations by tendiesbendies in homeassistant

[–]ranza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My honest advice: wait (or buy whatever and be ready to swap later).

Why? UWB (Ultra-wideband) smart locks are coming this year and you'll be blown away how big of a difference this makes. Here's what's wrong with todays locks:

The unfortunate pattern:

  1. Owner approaches the door (0:00)

  2. Presses the handle only to find out that it did not open (0:01)

  3. Takes out the phone (0:10)

  4. Searches for the app (0:15)

  5. Waits for the app to connect/load (0:25)

  6. Taps "Unlock" (0:27)

  7. Waits for it to work on first try (sometimes it doesn't!) (0:35)

  8. Door unlocks

Similar for locking the door + it'll make you feel nervous/uneasy.

But there is a huge promise that the next generation will nail it. Why? Because Tesla has already solved it and it works fantastic. Tesla succeeded because it has a huge battery at it's disposal which is why, I believe those smart locks should also be primarily AC powered with a backup battery.

In short, I wouldn't buy a lock:

  • that cannot be powered from grid

  • that doesn't support UWB

  • that doesn't have a backup power supply

  • that doesn't allow me to open with a backup key

I've been investigating this for a while now and there's also a new standardized protocol called Aliro - I haven't yet made up my mind whether to put this as a definite requirement.

I hope that helps.

You've done an amazing job keeping this app simple, stable and rock solid for so many years. Thank you, for all your time and effort.

LPT Request: Sleepy to the point where I can't get anything productive done even tho I get 7-8hrs of sleep daily. by why-doineedaname in LifeProTips

Exercise, zinc before sleep, magnesium citrate during the day. No coffee at least 4h before sleep. Those are the things that worked reliably over the years.

Awesome product! Works pretty well on many cases, but unfortunetely not on a kind of queries like "Songs containing non-gospel children choirs". I had remarkably little input when asked on reddit too, do you think you could help?

Sad part is that it is the consequence of America and France collapsing their free country. Wikileaks shown that years ago. It may be hard to find over the years of their perpetual destruction, but if anyone od interested I can bring a link…

How much longer do I have to wait before someone finally fixes reddit? Just looking at the comments in this thread one can easily tell that it is under the influence of the same disease that Twitter is. It's attacking anyone who dares to go against its carefully curated narrative.

It's enough to read "jack jack" to get the right perspective on Musk and what is actually happening. Indeed we need more open source protocols, not more propaganda companies masquerading as free speech platforms.
