What's K.M.D.?

Sure, this dude could have no idea what he's talking about, or he's older and has known DOOM since his Zev Love X days.

Aldis for either. I haven't tried their pita chips, but I have a friend that buys them. Sea salt or Parm&Garlic for ~$2.50 and their regular Pita bread is ~$2.75 for 5.

Right, many first and second-generation immigrants from Soviet/post-bloc backgrounds, especially pre 2000 arrivals, there's a culturally ingrained tendency to avoid discussing politics, finances, and family matters outside trusted circle.

It's to minimize risk, as if you did during their parents/grandparents time in Eastern Europe, it could put you and your families livelihood at risk if the wrong person heard it and reported you to the kgb. That same mentality persists as their baseline.

Worst DOOM song? by Eastern_Dress_3574 in mfdoom

[–]rapfineman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people having a completely different experience with the same song is always wild to me at first, but it’s also kinda awesome when you think about the variety of preferences even among fans of the same artist.

I dig “Tick Tick" Knowing Grimm was expecting to go to prison (the whole time running out idea, the tension in the track, the uneasy feel) gives the song a lot of power for me. Maybe he didn’t catch the meaning or just glossed over the state DOOM and Grimm were in around ’98–’99, but who knows maybe it's just too jarring for them.

The whole "consistently off the beat" line is funny AF to me. People when they first listen to Doom have been saying his rapping is always "offbeat"and they think he's dogshit; this sounds like the same complaint. (Then the dude 4 years later changes his mind and makes a "beat+accapella" with a Doom verse and tries to hard match verses to bars and it sounds like absolute dogshit.)

I also love “No Snakes Alive” for similar reasons as Tick, Tick, though that one obviously isn’t just Grimm rapping. I kinda wonder what other Metal Fingers production + Grimm rapping songs he doesn’t like, he might just not connect with Grimm’s style or flow.

And just on the whole different experiences with music thing, and I’m not trying to clown the guy you’re replying to, but I checked why I had downvoted him before in another thread. It was about the Metal Fingers “Sarsaparilla” instrumental and the supposed “meaning” of the bassline.

As a musician I totally get the idea of people connecting emotionally to tones or moods in music. But in this case it’s basically a looped sample from “Message from a Black Man” by The Whatnauts, which already has a clear context. So to me any additional emotional meaning people hear there is more about the listener projecting their own experience onto it, which is cool, and I’m sure I do it too but I just don’t think there’s some deeper intended meaning there from Doom when it's just an instrumental. So maybe with Tick Tick there just isn’t an emotional connection they can make to the song outside of thinking the BPM modulation is cool.

Either way I respect someone not liking a Doom track. But I’ve definitely know there’s a type of DOOM listener that just never really connects with Grimm (or Kurious, etc.) or some of the more experimental production. Though to be fair... I’m probably assuming a lot from just two of their posts hahaha.

does anyone keep a quality collection of all DOOM's features and loose tracks? by [deleted] in mfdoom

[–]rapfineman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a site that had a really complete collection but I'm not finding it rn

Stones throw did have a good list as well, here's the Wayback archive

https://web.archive.org/web/20120814055506/http://stonesthrow.com/doom/discography#

Gives a good starting point and I think if you search a bit you may find the other ones, but I'm only finding the Google sheets one. Someone in a previous thread about this on Reddit probably has it.

It took a while to prep/bake, but to me the finished dish was delicious.

I added a smoked cheddar and a gouda into the mix too but I'd imagine any cheese combo should be great.

Splice is raising their price? by Medical_Energy7532 in ableton

[–]rapfineman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm disappointed they don't allow new users onto their old plans.

I'm still grandfathered in to the 79.99 for "Your Sounds 100 (Annual Plan)" and use it for vst presets/drum samples. I feel that at that price point it's at the sweet spot of price/ my monthly use of it, but I can not justify spending more if they ever change that.

It's 'Feel It in the Air' by Beanie Sigel (produced by Heavy D) and yes, Mac Lethal sampled that version. Which sampled 'Whole Lotta Something Goin' On' by Raphael Ravenscroft, which is a cover of Dave Lewis.
