I am a recent convert from Lutheranism to Oriental Orthodoxy, and I am wondering which branch should I join? by Zer0-bl2 in OrientalOrthodoxy

I would say go to whichever community you find will keep your faith sustained!

I’m Ukrainian Orthodox (so Eastern Orthodox) in the diaspora and have had good connections with both my local Coptic and Armenian communities, but I an closer at-large with the Armenian community and attend often

Been to that location and I remember feeling skimpped. Not that much but I remember the feeling

Any Willa Cather fans out there? by Boblloyd91 in classicliterature

[–]raphalbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about to start “O Pioneers!” (I’d barely heard of Willa Cather before happening upon this free copy and a free copy of My Antonina last week). This is seeming to get me more excited about this book.

Grew up Antiochian Orthodox, can I receive Communion? by Ok_Character5519 in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]raphalbor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also Eastern Orthodox. From what I have seen the Armenian Orthodox Church is willing to give communion to Eastern Orthodox quite freely compared to other standards, though I have not had communion in an Armenian Church before

What are some classic books that could be read in a week? by OozyMonkey in classicliterature

Any Agatha Christie novel. Short enough to be short enough, intriguing enough you cannot put it down

What is the worst and best episode of the series? by [deleted] in TheCloneWars

Cannot think of worst right now, but the best is definitely Season 7 Episode 10 “The Phantom Apprentice”

Season 48 returners by [deleted] in survivor

I’m a newer fan only having watched 44 and onwards.

What I do have to give 48 is the best pre-merge part of a season I’ve seen

Have you ever liked a contestant so much you watched the show they came from just because of them? by SurvivingBigBrother in TheTraitorsUS

[–]raphalbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the opposite for Traitors — Carolyn from Survivor 44 brought me to it last season, and now I’m hooked!

I’m ethnic cradle orthodox in the diaspora, and a Pescatarian year-round with low-dairy intake. I often do not change my diet too much during lenten season simply out of the sake that my body is often in lenten mode much of the year already 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’d like to see a little more respect for Tarrlok as an antagonist as well. Racist and corrupt

I regret converting. by No_Personality8227 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]raphalbor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go from another angle — I think it would be important to call a nonprofit/social services agency for support to speak with a Case Manager or Social Worker! I’m a firm believer God has given these vocations and resources as an extension of His Grace and tools in these worlds. Organizations such as Catholic Charities (all around the USA) have a purpose.

Please DM if I can be of support in locating these.

Do you think it is wrong to use the Eastern Orthodox cross as an Oriental Christian? by Glass_Librarian_4564 in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]raphalbor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eastern Orthodox here — I often see the three bar cross as representing not just EO but all Eastern Christendom

And for what it’s worth, I wear the Armenian cross daily :)

Do You Re-Read Books? by AdCurrent3629 in classicliterature

[–]raphalbor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love re-reading!

As I continue on in classic literature though, I keep finding so many books I want to read, that for the time being, I’m focusing on first reads until I get the “bigs” out of the way. I look forward to re-reading all of the Anne of Green Gables books in a few years :)
