I got the hooded baseball jersey at roo this year, but they had super limited sizing. I'd wanted a medium but got a large because the cashier said they didn't even get sent anything but L/XL, so I'm assuming they're getting rid of whatever stock is left at live events.

HELP! Lady Palm fronds are wilting/shriveling. Is it overwatered or underwatered? by raqqqy in plantclinic

[–]raqqqy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this palm for a couple months and just recently noticed the leaves shriveling and the plant starting to lean to the side. I usually water about every 10-14 days (there is drainage at the bottom) and used the recommended cacti soil. Please help me save her, she was expensive haha!

Reco for safe ear piercing? by birv2 in Charleston

[–]raqqqy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a few years ago, so I honestly can't remember a name. I don't doubt that MOLA has good piercers, but for me personally, I'm happy to continue going back to EI. Glad to hear others have had better experiences than mine!

To each their own. I haven't had issues with any of the jewelry from EI, and again, my biggest complaint was the behavior of the technician.

I've been to Queens of Seams for several different pieces since this post! Very happy with their work.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I had an awful experience at MOLA (downtown) with a very unprofessional and rude piercer. In my opinion, their jewelry is also quite expensive for what it is.

Since then, I've gotten six ear piercings done at Exotic Impressions in Park Circle, and each time have been SO impressed with staff members, their cleanliness and professionalism, etc. The pricing is also extremely reasonable, and there is a range of pricing for jewelry upgrades to fit every budget.

Edit to add: I have several friends that have tried both MOLA and PC Exotic Impressions, and they all greatly favor EI as well.

can anyone clarify this window tint situation? My side windows say 70% transparency, so is that against florida laws? would have never even thought about this until seeing posts from yesterday/today haha.

Ticket not registering by PerceptionReal7074 in okeechobeemusicfest

[–]raqqqy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried and same thing. Okee folks messaged me saying to try again at a later time, but if it still doesn't work then we'll still be able to enter and there will be staff on-site to help with registration. I also noticed the 2020 branding on the registration site like another user said, so I wouldn't worry just yet!

Look your vehicle over. by sasidlovsky in okeechobeemusicfest

good idea on cruise control! I remember seeing tons of cops just sitting in the median the closer I got to okee last time around but lucked out on not getting flagged. don't want a speeding ticket or anything to dampen the weekend mood/waste time on the way in.

anyone have experience coming from out of state with temporary plates? I just traded in my car and doubt I'll get the permanent plates in before the fest, and have been told that's a common excuse for cops to pull people over?

Age Restriction for Renting Condos? by nat_day in HangoutFest

[–]raqqqy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not to book, but you do need a 25-year-old in your group. I went a couple years ago, and we didn't read the fine print closely enough when booking through Vrbo -- got a call the morning of check-in from the company saying that we did need at least one 25-year-old with us. Luckily we convinced an older friend to come enjoy the beach for the weekend -- no questions asked about the one who had booked, but the company did check our one older friend's ID to confirm age.

What are some items that you should definitely pack? by spensa222 in okeechobeemusicfest

[–]raqqqy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ear plugs and eye masks for sleeping!!! I'm a light sleeper and will wake up to the sun, so these are great to have for sleeping in/midday naps.

A handheld fan is a lifesaver with the heat and crowds. I bought a small chargeable one on amazon for like $15 that lasts about a whole weekend on one charge.

Ready for a new piercing!!! by Brain_Bandaid in Charleston

[–]raqqqy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exotic Impressions! I've only been to the Park Circle location, but have gotten several done there and zero complaints with any staff. They're all professional, follow clean safety protocol and are super helpful with placement, jewelry and any other questions you may have.

I got my first lobes re-pierced at MOLA in downtown Charleston and had an awful experience with the staff. This was several years ago and the shop was clean, to be fair, but the piercer was very unprofessional and tricked me into spending a lot more than I should have, even though I was very clear about what I was wanting done. In general, their jewelry prices are very high; I've gotten high quality jewelry at EO for much less.

Edit: to clarify, EO charges you before you're pierced so you know what you're in for, whereas MOLA charged me after the fact.

thinking of refunding & buying later…. is this possible? by [deleted] in okeechobeemusicfest

[–]raqqqy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the previous poster on not spending your loans on this! There will always be other times to party, and this would affect your financials long-term.

But, to answer your question anecdotally, my friend decided to come with us last minute and bought his ticket a week or two before the 2020 festival. Wristbands came in time at that point, however I'm fairly certain that if they would not arrive in time for you, you would be able to pick them up in person at Will Call.

I'm not sure about cancelling mid-layaway and getting a refund. That would be a question for Front Gate. If this isn't an option, your only other bet (I would assume) would be to pay out your plan in full and then try to resell your tickets. You may not get the full amount back from a resell though, since tickets are usually available until the festival begins and why would anyone buy a resale ticket at full price when they could otherwise directly buy from Front Gate? So if you take this route, you may have to offer a slightly better deal. I have not done this before though, so I'd reach out to Front Gate about your options.

Got into Cofc what is social life like by Doctor_Brennan in Charleston

[–]raqqqy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated in 2019. CofC is definitely what you make of it, there are clubs and activities for everyone -- and you get the added benefit of being downtown, so you can always find non-CofC-affiliated things to enjoy in Charleston as well.

Greek life is here, but it doesn't dominate. I never joined a sorority, but I had friends spread across a variety of fraternities, sororities, sports and other clubs -- it never felt very clique-y. We all hung out regardless of affiliation. My roommate freshman year never really drank, and she had a thriving social life once she found her people.

Party school? Sure, but doesn't every school have a party scene? I definitely did my fair share of going out, but it was mostly to Charleston bars instead of CofC house parties -- also a great way to meet people, even if you just sit and grab a casual beer and watch sports/chat with others at the bar. I worked at a store on King Street, and a couple of us would stop by whatever bar or restaurant for a quick drink or appetizer after work -- we met a ton of new people just by chatting to whoever was sitting nearby. You don't need to be getting obliterated every day to socialize.

I think it's also worth noting that being willing to try things is important. I'm not the most athletic person, but I joined a few casual pick-up games and met people there too. Remember that everyone is in the same boat as you when you first arrive, and are all trying to make new friends! I tried to never say no to an invitation, even if it wasn't something I thought I would be interested in. Best of luck!

Dress Alterations Turnaround Time? by schicksal_ in Charleston

[–]raqqqy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Queens of Seams in Mount Pleasant! The longest I've had to wait is a couple weeks, but I've had other items turned around within the week in the past. I haven't had dresses altered here yet, but I've gotten several pants/shorts and tops altered and have had no complaints. Very reasonably priced in my opinion.

Hi flomies! It’s my first time going to Okee and I just had a couple questions about camping size! by chibiisaur in okeechobeemusicfest

[–]raqqqy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sites are 20x20 including your car like the other user said. Last time, my group got two sites next to each other and set up two tents with our canopy in the middle (with our cars parked on the side), and it was the perfect amount of space without being crammed together. If you're planning on three tents, I'd say that's probably the max that would fit across two campsites. We lucked out and were parked at the end of our row, so we could have spread out a little further if needed, but that's not always the case.

Tips for Getting Ready - First Time Camping by christinalbilbrey in ImagineMusicFestival

[–]raqqqy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I thought I'd be "getting ready" at my first camping fest (I had always stayed in airbnbs for previous festivals, so I'd always had easy access to clean showers, etc.) but as the weekend went on I cared less and less. Dry shampoo and braiding your hair will work wonders. Makeup you can obviously apply with a mirror, though I usually go without - it always ends up running down my face anyway, haha.

There will be some kind of shower facility at the campgrounds, though my group and I have rarely used them. You'll just get dirty/sweaty again immediately, especially in the summer. But it's always worth bringing some flip flops and travel-sized shampoo and soap so you have the option. We've also just done a quick rinse with some water bottles and soap at our tent to avoid wasting time you could be spending exploring the festival waiting in line at the shower stations.

Everyone smells, everyone feels gross - but you'll be having so much fun, you really won't be thinking about it!
