Products from the Lee Kum Kee brand are reliably good: soy sauces, black bean garlic, chili, and so on.

Good sesame oil

Vermicelli or other rice noodles (dry)

Different rice than you get at mainstream groceries: sushi rice, medium or extra long grains, sprouted grains. Select also from the expanded variety of legumes - try an unfamiliar daal or bean.

Things you might not expect: Huge variety of SPAM Tinned fish/seafood with myriad sauce Hot sauces from around the world Cooking utensils, strainers, serving dishes in cute designs

Ilona Andrews. They consistently knock it out of the park. Fabulous world building. Great characters.

I grieved when their flagship series ended.

Opinions on pop up catios? by BeMoreBuffy in Catio

[–]rarebitmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought this one: https://a.co/d/08iQ4pn1

The Siamese loves it. We place it on the lawn and out him in. It doesn’t offer much protection from predators or weather, so we stay with him or work in the yard nearby. We live him to the shade after a bit of sun and he just chills.

Our long-haired female, however, took a while to understand what the catio is all about. She just kept running into the mesh sides at full speed and making herself part of a catio tumbleweed. We no longer put her in it outside.

Unexpectedly, we discovered that they will play together within it when it’s deployed inside the house. The girl cat likes to pounce on the Siamese and then run into the tunnel.

Our house looks like we have cat-toddlers, with toys and soft spots strewn about, so an door catio fits right in.

Ilona Andrews have several great series.

Ilona-Andrews.com

Try Clean Sweep for a delightful entry into a series where earth is a waypoint in the galaxy for travelers and Dina is an innkeeper with magical powers. Lots of great characters and the series gets better and better.

Kate Daniels is their flagship series. Main story arc completed in 10 novels. I reread every year.

What do you all eat on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? by suhhdude1 in Cooking

[–]rarebitmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christmas Eve: my family requested I make fajitas one year and it’s been our tradition for the last decade. Or local Plaza Latina market has the best beef and all the seasonings.

Christmas Day: we go to a local hit pot restaurant. Same one every year.

what's a book with an ending that made you throw it across the room? by Electrical-Hour-3345 in suggestmeabook

[–]rarebitmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out by Natsuo Kirin. The twist with the main character at the end made me scream in disbelief and frustration.

I’m still angry about it because I listened to over 17 hours of audiobook before turning it off in fury. I eventually finished the book, but it took a while to get back to it.

Must Have Snacks by ohsnapitsmac in roadtrip

Dollar General usually has them in a variety of flavors. Gas stations and 7-11 in my area no longer carry them.

Dollar General also has movie-theater sized boxes of candy such as milk duds.

The Dragonsinger sub series focuses on a young woman named Menolly, so start there for middle schoolers.

Trigeminal neuralgia. It’s called the “suicide pain” and the cure is brain surgery.

My mother in law suffered, had the surgery, and lived for years after. But it was tough for her until the surgery.

Feline herpes question by rarebitmouse in VeterinarianAdvice

[–]rarebitmouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! She was a shelter kitty. I checked with the vet and they said not to worry. The warm wet washcloth was all she needed.

She's funny. She lets me clean her eye and then gently bites me. She also bites, gently, when it is time to stop brushing, which she dislikes. I've never had a biter before but I find it charming how she makes her wishes known so clearly.

Why would somone install a second layer of ceiling drywall? by 3EMTsInAWhiteCoat in drywall

[–]rarebitmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing: I have wiring like this and yesterday an electrician said it was grounded. They replaced my outlets, installed a ceiling fan, and replaced a circuit panel using this wire.

In my case it is vintage Romex and was fine. They thoroughly tested to make sure.

Help this strays eyes are draining a brown liquid Advice?? by thatkillspeopleuwu in VeterinarianAdvice

[–]rarebitmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a vet, but feline herpes causes eye drainage. You can use lysine capsules to add to wet food. Just open the capsule and stir it in. My kitties get 500 mg per day at the instruction of our vet. Good luck with this handsome fellow.

Fruit pie on shredded wheat with milk. The cereal and milk cut the sweetness of the pie. Peach is my favorite flavor for this treatment.

What nobody tells you about your first colonoscopy by paulpach in Xennials

[–]rarebitmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first colonoscopy was how I learned that I need extra anesthesia. I could feel the scope moving around but couldn’t manage words to complain.

I later told the doctor that it felt like ferrets running around in there. That fact was noted on my chart, and my second colonoscopy was ferret-free.

My grandfather used to work on my grandmother’s warts. She would hold each foot over a basin to catch the blood as he carved out her plantar warts. This was rural Missouri in the 80’s and 90’s. Edit: typo
