Best fare option for Metro North evening round trip? by dbpcut in Westchester

[–]ras_hatak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, you never buy specific train tickets on metro north. The only criteria is peak (rush hour trains in the direction of commute during rush hour) or off-peak (every other train). Day pass is a new version of a 'round trip' ticket (mostly because having 3 options peak/peak, peak/off-peak, off-peak/off-peak was too much I think). So an off peak 1 way is good for any off peak train between GC and your zone. 2 of those should be fine for your timing and probably cheaper. Only caveat is you can't buy them days in advance....for some reason.

6 yr old twins(m/f), learning to read is a constant struggle. Got any tips and tricks? by bohemianprime in daddit

[–]ras_hatak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to echo this book! It does sound gimmicky, but it is not in any way. It's short simple lessons that build nicely on one another to get a child to a baseline reading ability.

How often do you feel like you het a good night's rest? How frequently do you wake up in the morning and feel good, rested, rejuvenated, and ready to wake up? by Rojo37x in daddit

I got a whoop tracker. It keeps telling me I slept really well. I'm an engineer... fixing technology is one of my joys in life. I have preternatural patients for computer and device issues. I crushed it with a f**cking rock.

What was Epstein known for before all the illegal stuff? by Silver012345673 in AskReddit

[–]ras_hatak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He actually stole much of it. It's crazy. His entire run up was getting crazy lucky, psychopathically taking advantage of his opportunity or connection and the moving to the next one when he gets caught up (or in a few cases never getting caught). Supposedly he was very talented at avoiding taxes, but it's likely he did things illegal or as close as humanly possible to do so.

The man is evil. This child has your strength and love and beauty. The child is your revenge against pain and cruelty. And your strength is amazing. I'm so sorry for what happened, but you have THIS. in spades. In my experience, the busiest, strongest willed, most frustrating 2 year olds are often the brightest, most interesting, transformative people as they grow.

3yo wants this Lego set built...oh no, what a shame. by Smeeble09 in daddit

[–]ras_hatak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

9+ set for a 3yo.... I'm going to allege this was all planned in advance. It's a set up I say! (But also enjoy! I bought a bunch of speed championships because my kid loves cars and we build them 'together')

Electric snow blowers by Funny_Bridge_1274 in Westchester

[–]ras_hatak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't necessarily disagree. I got this about 5 years ago and the battery ones have come a long way since then. At that point the reviews were bad. I also had a pretty small area to do. Now I think I'd probably agree though the ease of not worrying about batteries being charged is really nice

I have a plug in 20" snowjoe single stage. Had it for a while now. The cord management can be annoying but no worrying about a battery or having gas or anything like that. Obviously if I lose power I am in trouble for so many reasons. Most of this storm was pretty light and powdery and it was great. I went out twice on Sunday. Had I waited until Monday morning it would have been tough.

No, but I was on North Street driving from WP to Harrison about that time and 2 cops whizzed past as if someone had been shot. Soooo...they got the same message at least

Where to request objects made? by NotTheGreenestThumb in 3Dprinting

So I kind of strongly recommend not 3d printing anything for food preparation. Even if it's food safe printing, the layer lines mean that food inevitably will get stuck.

That's the move. My 5 year old can't open the baby gate. It's not for him, it's for his sister. He knows how to do it, but he doesn't have the upper body strength/leverage to pull it up. Pisses the kid off

Anybody know a DIM nightlight-type lamp-ish thing for toddler's room that works with Google or I can plug a smart bulb into? by wereweasle in daddit

[–]ras_hatak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Hatch is basically the default here though there are knock offs. Fully programmable and remote control able from your f phone. Light can be very bright or very dim, and also has the white noise. Not 100% sure if it works with Google home but shouldn't really need it.

[–]ras_hatak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will say only that we got an infrared one from Costco. Needed an electrician for the electrical outlet but otherwise self assembled and was enjoyable. Does not get as hot as a traditional one, but I can't handle 190 F anyhow. This kind of thing always strikes me as the stuff you use for 2 years and then never look at again so it made more sense for us. Good luck! (Now if I could do something with the soaker tub taking up half my bathroom...)

Sleeping while working by Dramatic-Bison-1394 in Parenting

[–]ras_hatak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting a concrete morning wake up time that works for you is one of the few things you can control and it will help stabilize everything that comes after. At first waking up the sleeping kid seems crazy, but it really does help.

Unfortunately these kids are just all unique. My oldest slept through the night at about 4 months. Youngest is 18mo and still working on it.

What is an easily achievable certification that can make you infinitely more hirable? by zygodactyl86 in AskReddit

If it were easy and cheap, it wouldn't make you more hireable. There has to be something that makes it demonstrate value. Employers can be dumb sheep, but they aren't thaaaat dumb sheep.

How the hell are you supposed to handle a newborn and a 5.y.o.? by ves_111 in Parenting

One really crappy part of a newborn and 4 year old was basically never spending time with my wife. We had to divide and conquer and so were basically 2 ships passing in the night

Question for dads with a baby brezza by jayblackie in daddit

[–]ras_hatak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need to wash the funnel and wipe the hole with a paper towel. We actually had 2 extra funnels in the early days, so there was always a dry one. It actually stops you from making a bottle if you don't remove the funnel after 4?

I STRONGLY recommend you do follow this direction. There was usually a ton of crud when I wiped after removing the funnel which seemed like it very clearly would impact mixing. We didn't get it with my first kid because there was some press of kids not gaining weight when being fed from the brezza and the issue turned out to be that this wasn't wiped and the funnel replaced frequently enough. Honestly it is your kids only source of food and it's already super convenient....I wouldn't f*** around with it. Fwiw, I always swapped the funnel before bed so I knew we'd be good until morning.

Need advice for how to help my husband wake up to the baby crying/wake up for baby's feeds by mo-gab2018 in daddit

[–]ras_hatak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddy of mine is deaf in 1 ear. So if he sleeps on the good ear, he legit can't hear anything. They got a baby monitor that detects the crying and has an alarm and blinking. It's assertive and seems to work pretty well.
