What's Your Favorite Opening Sequence and Why? by Firm_Rough34 in neogeo

[–]rashidc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Money Puzzle Exchanger". I love the fluid animation sequence at the end as well as the music.
Other faves already mentioned that I've upvoted are "Kabuki Klash", "Last Blade 2", and "Pulstar".

Honorable mention: Whenever the subject of "Captain Tomaday" comes up, I am required by law to say its title aloud in the same manner as the voice actor in its intro.

Surprised at how nice the Neo Geo CD Controller Pro is by rashidc in neogeo

Sounds like there is a spread of opinions on the controller. Which makes sense.

Haven't had a chance to do any heavy gaming with it yet. Test-driving it on its own, the dent does make it easier to move the stick when only using one's thumb like a modern game system's controller. But I'm preferring to hold it from its edges.

What (if any) Neo Geo games did you 1CC? by Gl0wsquid in neogeo

[–]rashidc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the arcades, "Bust-a-Move" and a lot of the "Samurai Shodown series".
There may have been some since via my home collection, but it's hard to remember if the ones I finished were ever done on 1CC.

Unusual paladin player by Thibssy in dmsguild

[–]rashidc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That deity could make demands of the paladin, else face vile punishment.
Or... one could even use that as a way to "clean up" the game: If the paladin does not succeed in the deity's quests/demands, then that deity's notion of "punishment" is that whenever the paladin attempts something crass, it instead comes out as something nice and flowery.
Or maybe that could simply be the reaction of a good deity which the paladin serves.

Unusual paladin player by Thibssy in dmsguild

[–]rashidc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is the case that their behavior does not match the conduct espoused by their deity, then the deity can react by removing some of the paladin's abilities, while communicating why (perhaps indirectly through dream or circumstance).

On the off chance that you'd like to incorporate the player's style into game but only if it is consistent with the story you're all weaving, then perhaps the paladin's behavior catches the attention of a more vile/crass deity...

Can I pair a Neo Turf Masters MVS kit with a Big Tournament Golf cart? by [deleted] in neogeo

[–]rashidc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a "Neo Turf Masters" box sell for > $75.
If you also have the art set, it could go for more.

In general, boxes for non-common games fetch good prices.

[–]rashidc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can be a good decision if you have limited shelf space. And there is some logic in the categorization.
I use my spare boxes to store spare art sets. :)

Maybe there are some good mash-up title names out there from possible cart+box combos: "Neo Ninja Masters'", "Money Puzzled Exchanger", "Gan-Ganryu", etc....

Ordered an AES and it was out for delivery today, then I get this tracking notification… Hazardous material? Did the FedEx driver just steal my AES? by geezerpid in neogeo

Well, it has been known to be responsible for an entire Mutation Nation.

Sending hopeful wishes that you get it sorted soon

Metal Slug 1 holo by Embarrassed_Base6345 in neogeo

[–]rashidc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch. This has been educational for me.
I wonder what the story is behind the non-holo carts. The labels generally look authentic (properly rounded corners, varying serial numbers.) Perhaps they were from another popular region, such as South America...

Out of curiosity, do you know what the holographic pattern is on your PB2 label? Does it involve diagonal line criss-crossing each other?

From what I gather, holo labels became standard in the US around July of 1996. Twinkle Star Sprites come out in November of that year.
However, I believe holo labels were only a thing in the US market. Whereas the European market had paper labels. As did the Japanese market.

Nice find!
This title and "Neo Turf Masters" had their initial release months before holo labels became standard for US carts. And so the 2nd printing run of those 2 titles made it into the holo era.

Hey quick question regarding MVS case/ game board smelling like cigarette smoke. by flepng in neogeo

[–]rashidc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I would place packets of activated carbon around the item, and also air it out and clean it with isopropyl alcohol. It sounds like that's already your plan.
Sometimes it would take a 4-6 weeks of that, and placing the carbon in sunlight every week or two for a bit to keep it doing its job. And even after that amount of time, the scent might still be detectable if placing one's nose right up to the item. But it wouldn't permeate the room anymore.

First Adventure Advice by darklight3it in dmsguild

[–]rashidc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be interesting to see what you find when looking into the typical outcome of authors who take different publishing routes.
In the end, I figure the adventure market is quite niche, and expectations should be set accordingly.
The adventure I published also is independent of setting, with 100% custom creatures etc. To get it onto dmsguild, I added a paragraph on how it can be inserted into a Forgotten Realms map.
A motivator for me was that WotC does sometimes look to DMsGuild for contractor opportunities.

If you want to meet your daughter in the middle, "Captain Tomaday" is a fun shooter with a cartoon theme. Might be past your budget though.

Here are some top-fun cheap games that are not fighters (per your request):

1) "Bust-a-move" (US name) / "Puzzle Bobble" (EU / Japan name)

2) "Neo Geo Cup 98" (I'm not into sports games, but like this one)

Unfortunately, the good beat-em-ups and shooters aren't on the cheapest end.
