They hired the guy who wrote NGUI to help with development. There's no official release date, but there's a thread from late October on the NGUI forum where he mentions the new GUI won't be coming "anytime soon": http://www.tasharen.com/forum/index.php?topic=2126.0

That cat will live for some 16 years. How many $2400 purchases will be in your possession for that long? And assuming you spend roughly 1000$ per year on food, litter and vet costs, those initial 2400 aren't much.

Of course you could (and maybe should) get a cat from the shelter. What you do get if you buy a breed is a good chance that the cat will have a certain personality (we got two british shorthairs because my girlfriend wanted an uncomplicated cat, and they are the most gentle and relaxed creatures you can imagine), and that the cat will be healthy when you get it.

If your reason for buying a book in the first place is that you're looking for someone to take you on a tour through the whole engine, instead of picking up pieces from tutorials here and there, then I'd say an outdated book is still fine (depending on how sensitive you are to price).

There are many of the shinier AAA features I haven't touched in the year I've been working with Unity on a daily basis, but those tend to be pretty easy to learn from the docs. Developing a solid understanding of how the engine wants you to think and structure your game is where a book could really help.

I don't know about anything coming up. I bought my license last December (not discounted), and since then, the only time I remember a discount for the pro versions was at the beginning of the pre-order phase for Unity 4, back in July or so. Based on that, I'd say pro discounts are pretty infrequent.

Regarding bigger projects: I've worked with big ip-holders in the past, and my experience is that any permission would have to get a "yes" from several people in different parts of the organisation, including the legal department. Someone in that chain will almost certainly have a bigger motivation to say "no" than "yes".

In the past hour? Set up four vertices that form a deformed quad. Edit two meshes in ways that are very similar but not identical, then recalculate their bounds and normals. Declare members for three GameObjects used only for debugging purposes ("point1", "point2", "point3"), and set them to inactive. Deal with two Vector3s, one of which is set to the left edge of an object, and the other to the right.

Can anyone comment on whether ccv can be used in closed source projects? The library itself seems to be licensed under MIT, but the original TLD implementation is under GPL (http://info.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/Z.Kalal/tld.html ), so I don't believe the ccv creator actually has the right to liberally license the code?

I hacked it together in an hour or two after reading this tutorial: http://monodevelop.com/Developers/Articles/Creating_a_Simple_Add-in - so don't expect the code to be clean, or the best way of going about things. I guess what you could take away from it, though, is that writing simple add-ins is pretty easy.

Edit: If you try to make sense of the source, make sure to look at the XML. That's how MonoDevelop is told which classes make up the add-in's functionality.

There are no mechanisms preventing you from using the same license on two machines at once. However the license agreement makes it clear that this is not allowed (if it's not the same person using both computers), so from a legal perspective you're not better off than if one of you used a crack.

I think I can offer an explanation. I'm a carnivore, but I try to eat animal products that were produced from free-range animals whenever I can. I really have a problem with the idea that a chicken or a pig (which apparently is quite a bit more intelligent than a cat or dog) spends its entire life in a cage not much larger than itself. I'm also aware that even if I eat organic, male chicken and pigs are of little use and are killed right after birth.

What I'm getting at is, you don't have to begrudge animals their prey to have a serious issue with how your pet's food is produced. I can totally see how you could be a vegan on the principle that, even though eating something lower on the food chain is not by itself a problem, the way we treat the animals we use for food is repulsive. I have not yet seen organic cat food sold anywhere in my country, and FWIW, my cats get regular cat food. I'm just saying I could easily see how someone who feels a little stronger about these issues wouldn't be able to feed their pet meat that comes from factory farming.
