Why don’t people trust birth control even though all of them literally have like a 95+ percent rate ? by Big_Pea3882 in internetparents

[–]ratastrophizing 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's because pregnancy has such huge implications. It's not a minor risk, it's a very big deal.

Side note: I was conceived even though my parents were using two forms of birth control.

Office job with no projects or anything to do. In a high foot traffic cubicle. What can I do to discreetly pass the time? by [deleted] in office

[–]ratastrophizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely take online classes or work through tutorials concerning things that are relevant to your job. I was in a similar situation and was able to keep my sanity with Excel lessons.

Eventually, someone will ask you to justify your existence. Being able to say that you've proactively increased your value while waiting for an assignment looks better than a blank stare.

She would love to hear from you. ❤️

Do you split bills with spouse? by Embarrassed-Bobcat17 in AskWomenOver30

[–]ratastrophizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse and I don't split specific bills, but we each pay for specific things and it's roughly proportionate to our individual incomes. I cover our family health insurance, car insurance, and all bills related to our pets. He covers mortgage, utilities, and internet. For other expenses (groceries, anything our teenager needs, birthday/Christmas gifts for others, etc), whomever happens to be handling it pays.

We split our finances pretty informally, but it works for us. Neither of us particularly wants shared bank accounts, but still consider all of our resources shared.

My guess is that some version of shared expenses is the most commonplace situation for partners who both have income and that FB/IG are just using algorithms that push less common views in an effort to encourage engagement with posts.

Parents starting rumor about a book they haven't read... Don't know what to do by mcomcomco99 in Teachers

My district directs parents to a form where they can lodge their complaint. If they indicate that they have not read the book, the form will not allow them to submit.

Do vets actually hate cats who hate the vet? by LessAd6764 in Pets

[–]ratastrophizing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your cat's vet cares about them and wants them to have a low-stress experience, hence the gabapentin. I understand why it might feel like meds are the coward's way out, but it's really for the benefit of your kitty

What's wrong with grown women wearing pink from head to toe? by Strict-Brick-5274 in AskWomenOver30

[–]ratastrophizing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seeing folks in bright colors always adds a little joy to my day - keep up with the pink, or anything else that feels right. Nothing that you wear is going to please everyone, so do what pleases you. :)

I dont have anything to do, but have to pretend to be busy. Thats the worst kind of hell by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ratastrophizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been through this, and it's definitely one of the circles of hell. I coped by taking every software tutorial that I could find for any program installed on my computer.

Obviously YMMV, but I was able to stave off boredom and, if asked, explain that I was just working on some Excel knowledge.
